Hello good people!

This is the 2nd Hackintosh I build (check My first in my sig).

I bought this parts to a friend of mine:
After reading the posts around here I so that they are very popular around here and and fits his budget.

OK here is the RIG:

MOBO: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3
CPU: Intel E6750 2.66GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor
RAM: 2 GB DDR2 800
GPU: Nvidia 7300GT 256MB
HDD1: WD 160
HDD2: WD 250
DVDR: ASUS DVD-RW 1814BLT (SATA)
+
IEEE 1394 card

External sound device: M-Box 2

Now guys , I'll need a little help with the work flow...

Installetion:
My friend wants to use both WIN XP and OSX so I guess he will need to install both XP and osx in AHCI mode.
- correct me if I'm wrong.

Now in order to do that I guess he'll need to use the F6 option (during XP install) in order that windows will recognize the HDD in AHCI mode.
Which driver controlers does he need to download and copy to a FLOPPY?

The seconed thing is - How to connect the SATA HDDs and DVDR/W?
I see that there are Oange and Purple SATA conectors...
where should I plug the the HDDs and DVD - in both on XP and OSX will recognize them correctly?

Drivers:
OK as I mentioned above he will have the GA-P35-DS3 Mobo so:
Which drivers/pkgs should I download in order that the Mobo and he's parts will be recognized easily?

I recomended him to buy the Nvidia 7300GT because I so he is very popular here.
Which Driver shall I install? Titan? Natit? any other thing? (a link will be apritiayed wink.gif )

As for the External sound device (Mbox-2) I dont expect any trouble... he should work on a mac...

waiting for your recomendations...

Nice system..can't help you with drivers tongue.gif

BUT i want to ask a question: What is AHCI and is it really needed on a GA-P35-DS3P to run OS x86?
Is it slower or something? So does it have downs that AHCI thing?

Thx

AHCI:
Advanced Host Controller Interface
The Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI) is a hardware mechanism that allows software to communicate with Serial ATA devices such as host bus adapters. The specification details a system memory structure for computer hardware vendors, in order to transfer data between system memory and the device.

According to other posts it won't reduce performence in XP/vista so don't worry.

Come on people no one here has the GA-P35-DS3??? please help! through me a freaking bone here! smile.gif

Cheers! I guess I can find most things there...
I didn't find anything to do with the "XP on AHCI" over there... but it does mention that this board has a ICH9 controller... (same as my P5k Deluxe).

So I guess I can install his windows with F6 option using my floppy drive that has the ICH9 AHCI drivers...
Please correct me if Im wrong...

I'll download the sound and LAN kexts and try to run them with "KEXT HELPER" couse I dont know how to use terminal....

Wish me luck!

Anything else I need to prepair myself for?

Hi, I got exactly the same config as you (Maxtor + Ibm HDD but it really doesn't matter).
I can suggest you to install Jas 10.4.8 + Jas 10.4.9 Upd + Koolkal 10.4.10 Up. Kernel 8.10.3 works flawlessly.
For the ethernet fix you can found an opensource driver on realtek site, it works great.
For the sound (input not tested yet) you can find a kext in the forum (ALC899 or something similar, It's easy to find).
For the CS3 Patch I use the one find in the forum (AppleSMBIOS.kext from netkas), but I got poor performances (same as my Dual 867 G4 2Gb ATI9800Pro), still searching for something better. After installing this one, my ram starts to be recognized as 333Mhz, but I think it's only a visualization problem.
You can find a patch for recognize the ICH9 right, instead of Generic AHCI (null), but I think it's only a graphic problem, no increased performances at all, still waiting for a real ICH9 fix.
In BIOS remember to set AHCI Mode, Native SATA enabled.

My only problem is that I can see 4 SATA ports 2 Purple + 2 (non all4) ICH9. And it's driving me mad.

Hope this helps you

Bye
