Start penny pinching guys, Logic Pro 8 and Logic 8 Express is out!

It looks great and I'm heading down to the Apple Store to check it out on my lunch today. Perhaps I'll even pick up the upgrade today.

a huge dif from prices. 7.2 $999 ... now 8 only $499 ... am i seeing things? Its worth buying it for sure. specially me ... there is no version 8 on my country, only 7.2 and its way above $999

One question: is it possible to run this full legit version over mac osx86? or does it need to be cracked? ( I'm new on these walks).

It means that if you want to have all the contents of Logic Studio, you can have fun waiting for 46GB to download. Then after that, you can have even more fun waiting around for somebody to generously donate their serial number. Plus, who's to say that Apple hasn't found a way to protect their work. For example. have you ever tried to use a non legit version of Ableton Live? It works fine for about 6 months and then it locks you out for good. Most users wind up buying it just to salvage all the work they've done with it lol. When you finish downloading and installing Logic studio next summer, why don't you post back and let us know how it goes

Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those holier than thou anti piracy advocates or anything, but I do believe that there are some instances where it is actually better for everybody if you just pay for the software. Logic Studio gives you so much for your money it's ridiculous. I happen to own a legit Logic Pro 7 and the upgrade for me is $200. That includes LP8,Mainstage, STP2, ALL OF THE JAM PACKS, and waveburner and all that. The package size says it all. 46GB of audio tools! Besides, I download only very casually but a 46GB download session I fear would draw too much attention from my ISP. All things considered, in this case I feel it's better to buy.

if u need all that Content crap that was included with dozenz of former releases..so it could come down to about 230MB to have the New Fun under the Mouse Pointer

The Upgrade if u do get it make sure your dongle is the usb.....about the content sure there are some old content included but there are addded sounds and loops,,,,
Yea have fun trying to download that content about the time u download it,,,apple would have merged with redmond APPLESOFT would be the new kidd on the block and LOGIC 15 will be out no seiral or dongle just retna scan and it will unlock the program.
And the OSX will be like a nicotene patch that goes on your arm so u can start your Shintels...and the iphone will be discontunied with the iBrain just walk into any WIFI pass some wind and the call goes thru.......

Logic Studio (the legal version) is worth buying. $499 is not expensive comparing to the $999 of Logic Pro 7.

I must admit that for the first time in my life am considering buying mac just for audio work... unfortunately, price of apple hardware is still a bit high here, but... who knows, maybe one day

20" iMac and Logic Studio is cheaper then any half decent stand alone multi track recorder and it is absolutley unbelievable the features that you get with this!

I was one of the unfortunate people who couldn't afford Logic Pro 7 @ 1000 dollars. That was a rediculous price tag. But now I'm really considering getting this along w/ reason 4.0. Man I don't even know what this program is capable of right now. What sets this apart from Pro-Tools, Nuendo, Logic, Etc..?

To be honest they all do the same thing! I use ProTools, Logic, Cubase and Digital Performer all in different studios. What it comes down to is what does it fastest what does it easiest and so forth. Looking at the new Logic upgrade there is no question of what one is more user friendly know. But the I must admit the node feature isn't new but it is something that the other companies would want to start incorporating real fast.

No! Studio implies that is loaded with way more features!!!

the only problem with Pro Tools is that you got to own a m-audio or digidesign soundcard, and lets face it, focusrite saffire is a better soundcard than all the m-audio's and digidesign are just too expensive.

Does anyone know if it can be installed on 10.4.8? Perhaps by editing a script file inside (a) package(s) similar to the way with the recent iWork suite.

All this packaged on about 8 DVDs. Logic Studio totals at about 46GB of apps, instruments and samples. There is also a 1000 page printed manual for LP8 and seperate printed manuals for the other apps and plugins (There are pdfs on the DVDs too). All that for $500 new $200 upgrade. I'd rather spend the $200 (I already own LP7) and get the whole package than wait the impossible amount of time it will take to download. I checked the green demon and even just the core package is 7GB. THAT!!

I just Dl'd just Logic 8, but it won't install, I think it may have something to do with me only having 7.42 GB avail

Guys, let me know if it works well under 10.4.9i or whatever version you've got. I'm really tempted to sell my Cubase SL3.
I bought Logic express 7 recently and the upgrade is cheap so it's certainly worth considering. Particularly since 7.0 is not really working properly - graphical errors.

OK, got a crack and it works, Fully so far!!! Wow, I'm soo happy because I no loger have to use the Dongle!!! Once again, still no crack for 7.2, but 8 is working just great!!!

Howdy everyone. First I just want to thank this community, everything I know I've learned from you guys here. I haven't posted in a while because my hackintosh has been working perfectly for months, even better than my real mac g4 digital audio dual processor.

I found a link here for academic versions of the new logic software (it's everything except you can't get an upgrade to 9 down the road) but at these prices who cares. I can't believe it. It is shipping and I only paid...drum roll please, 149.00 $. All you need is a student id. I have an old id from a community college I went to 5 years ago and that was good enough for them, they check.

The second item of interest is when I get this package will I be able to make copies to give to my friends? Has anyone made a copy of a valid logic 8 install disk?

PS I also ordered the presonus firebox after reading such great reviews on it, the m-box had so many problems it seemed to be very unstable. Can't wait to get my hands on my perfect hackintosh audio rig.

waire if you are on demonoid there is a k'd dvd(with a bunch of the functional content included!) which bypasses those dumb-ass system checks and runs great. It's about 7GB. I'm running 10.4.10 though so im not positive if it'll work for you but it bypassed all of the quartz checking that was pissing me off on my last install. There is also a dvd on demonoid called Xxx_OSX_86 its about 1.2GB and installed on my toshiba laptop and a friends hp p4 desktop without any modding required on my part aside from putting a check in a few boxes on the installer(thanx 2 those responsible!) Theres a second dvd by the same creator with more of the sound content as well

I believe the official line is that you're allowed 2 installations exactly for that: one for your home mac and another for your mobile mac. Very smart strategies! Apple is really making it attractive for us musico's to get a mac. It's now officially on my shopping list.

The actual Logic Studio is only 1 dvd wich is 7 something gigs( Includes Logic 8, Waveburner, Mainstage, Soundtrack Pro, and some other apps ), the other dvds that come with it is Apple content ( loops, software instruments, presets ), Jam Pack content ( more loops , software instruments , presets ) , and Demo and video tutorials.
So you only need the first dvd, then if needed you can download the extra content over time.

There's also a small 200 something mb file for just the standalone logic 8.mpkg

Logic Express 8 includes 2 discs:the application disc with Logic, Garageband instruments and loops, Ultrabeat library,EXS24 and presets, plus a content disc with 'Artist Spotlight' Logic projects.

The Jam Packs can be bought separately, if you use Express.
