Full Version: Universal GeForce Driver package

Prawker
Hello All,

I've made for you a universal installer for all GeForce cards*

The package installs a copy of all the GeForce, NV, and Titan kexts. All of them include all of the most common Device ID's. So if you're having trouble changing your resolution, or you want to get Core Image and Quartz Extreme working, this package might do the trick for you!

Please keep in mind that I have not tested this on every single GeForce card. But it SHOULD work on most modern cards, which include cards in the 5xxx through 7xxx range. If you have anything older, then this may or may not work. And if you have an 8xxx card, this will NOT work. Also, this may or may not work if your card has 512MB of RAM. You display might work the first time you reboot, but not the second time. If you have a 512 card, and want to try this out then be my guest wink.gif

If you use this package, please report any success or failure so I can update this thread and get a list of supported/unsupported cards going.

This is the first time I've ever made a package and released it, so I cannot guarantee that this will work on your system, and/or that it will install correctly on your system. I've installed this on two different computers so far and it worked like a charm on both. So if you think you are tech savy, be sure to keep an eye on the installer log and let me know of any bugs you spot.

Download the package here

Grrrr!
Woke up this morning after thinking i had fixed it, but i reboot to black screen after rebooting the second time.

any suggestions
Prawker
Hmm, not to sure this will work on 512MB cards then...i find it strange that it worked on your first reboot though...

Well if you can get into single user mode (-s) or if you can access your drive from windows with MacDrive, then copy the backup files (/GeForceBackups) to your extensions folder and repair permissions, that should get your install booting again.
sensimeon
yah i just booted into vista

and deleted

system/library/extensions/nvdaresman

and reboot and im back to 1024x768
and my card is recgonized as generic 512 meg card...

im going to try the natit .01 and .02
then titan
then i have no idea...

shouldnt i be able to open the gforce package and just add my device id/number
because the universal just loads them all at once

when i hit -v on boot i can see the it say "okay cross your fingers"
and some of them it says fail
so i know the universal is loading too many
and maybe after 2 -3 restarts it looses the info?

ive noticed it works for exactly 2-3 reboots then i get a black screen...

ill let you guys know if anything comes up, but please,
if you know which ktext works do let me know!
Prawker
try adding your devID to the NV40 kext and see if that works
ridgeline
Well, all I can say is this driver package is great for me. I am using it on a GeForce Go 7200 on a DV6200CTO Lappy.

It is about time I am able to get the video working properly.
Current res. 1270x800

Thank you
jhnez
when do you tink 8x00 wil be available? i like osx but i would realy like to use my both monitors on my geforce 8800gts
mluu510
i hope someone would make this compatible with geforce 8 cards. thanks in advance.

I choose not to install the nv40 option with jas 10.4.8 as I would get the black screen after install and grey apple spinning logo.

Now that I have flashed my rom and my card is recgonized as 512, should i go back and perhaps install the nv40ktext and do the steps you stated above. Or should i edit the gforce ktext which seems to be in the s/l/e folder...

here's my display info if anyone is feeling so kindly to mod their nv40 and email to me...

oh, and at this point, installing mac on this ds3p is just like installin windows on my compaq tongue.gif

This package installs the nv40 kext. Just put your DevID in there and give it a shot. Let me know if you think of anything else wink.gif

installed the driver, restarted and woo woo it works.

now to add my id..

i find my way to systems/library/extensions/nvdanv40hal.kext--->show contents

now in Contents

i copy info.plist to the desktop and open with text edit

im pretty sure i put it:

my two questions are these:

how do i write out vendor + device id?

(v)0x10de + (d)0x0295=0x029510de

And, should i take out all those other ids since they are no longer needed?

im pretty sure it is as i see "0x029010de"
and that means it just needs to replaced?

ugh, i feel so newb. this is the last step and i'll have my mac working perfectly.
get ready for a "how to make a frankie on a ds3p board"

ps. whats your xbench score?

ahhh ha! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

So far so good really...
Since im booting between hard drives and vista/osx just by using bios boot options,
i sometimes get a black screen on the first boot if i switch between the two.
but after that it fires up and everything seems to hold steady...

If you come across any fixes before me for the 512cards do let me know.

Thanks again!

If anyone has a nvidia fxf7950gt, hit me up and ill send you the edited version for it.

I kinda have the same problem, only its my my video card. but when ever i'm in windows and i REBOOT into OS X it kernel panics, so instead of hitting restart in windows, I have to shut the PC down first, then turn it back on and boot into OS X, no clue why, but its no big deal wink.gif

It didn't work for my XFX Nvidia 7600GT PCI-E. I had to reboot manually, and after I got all the white text that appears while the system loads, I get a part which says:

and here is where it hangs and won't do anything else. What should I do?

How do you reflash the video card and everything, since I have a bfg 7950 gt oc 512mb card(I think, it's 512M), but osx only sees 256 mb of it. Just started this, so not too sure how to get the nvidia card fully working under osx86. Do you have to reflash the card as something, and also what changes did you do to that list file.

Thanks,

Same for me, yesterday i try to get it run by my self, and the CRT on the VGA port leaves Black the CRT on the DVI port show this ligh blue screen.
With this package the ports are "inverted" (VCA shows light blue, DVI leaves black).

My Card: Geforce 7600 GT 512MB by MSI (NX7600GT TD512Z)

ps: i think that the "primary" display leaves Black, and the secoundary shows this light blue, but i'm not sure cause i can't move the mouse to that secoundary screen.

First understand, that my video card gives me boot problems. I usually have to restart twice..So 90% working, but its the best I've found so far for being constant.First you have to flash your card, no way around it.Sounds scary but it's not..Find your card here: www.s155158671.websitehome.co.uk/nvidia512cardrom.html Then I would suggest installing this driver package again.Make sure your devid is included!(Read posts above as I was intruscted by prawker how to do this step.)Then it should just work after rebooting..Problems I've found and how I've fixed them..BIOS setting screen appears pixelated..Reload default biosIt boots and stalls in black screen after grey logo...RestartIt boots and stalls in black screen after grey logo...Restart againStalls at blue screen with no mouse/with mouse...RestartIf you are still recieving problems, then I would suggest starting with a fresh installafter you have flashed your card, then installin the pkg. Good luck.

didn't work for my GeForce Go 6200 (0x016710de) for vaio s3xp laptop, using JaS 10.4.8.
I added my device ID in the different .kext concerned, changed owner and rights, cleaned the kextcaches, then repaired the permissions as usual.
the boot up looks fine, but hangs at the end

It didn't work with the GeForce Go 6200 on an Acer TravelMate C310. After I installed the package and rebooted, I got a strange screen just before the blue background with the login would appear. It was a color fading from the gray from the screen before slowly to black. The system did not hang though, I was still able to blindly shutdown. I started then to Windows and from there removed all the relating folders from the Extensions. After that I had my 1024x768 screen back, however, something interesting happened... Before, System Profiler didn't recognize my card properly (just nvidia), and now I have the following:

NVIDIA GeForce Go 6200:

Chipset Model: NVIDIA GeForce Go 6200
Type: Display
Bus: PCIe
VRAM (Total): 128 MB
Vendor: nVIDIA (0x10de)

Resolution: 1024 x 768
Depth: 32-bit Color
Core Image: Not Supported
Main Display: Yes

Quartz Extreme: Not Supported

So the system now suddenly knows the Chipset, without the package installed... However, Quartz Extreme is not supported. Any ideas how I could get that to work? (I believe some applications like iWork8 need that in order to run, right?)

After installing tubgirls 10.4.10 (as an update on my modified tubgirl 10.4.8), my display resolution was only 1024x768 without QE and CI.

I installed this Geforce Driver package and now I'm back at full resolution including Quartz Extreme and Core Image.

Prawker,

Going 2 for 3 with this package. First the 7950GT works, then i go the 7600gt and it works perfectly, and i recently grabbed a 7300gs and it is stalling at the blue screen. been looking around and going to try to reinstall. but im currently using the xXx 10.4.10 installer disc, no video selection, and the card works fine, but then install your package and i hang at blue screen. thinking i could hook you up with the device id and you could send me the text file back? let me know, and if anything changes ill inform you
