HI,

I was about to buy an Asus P5K for my new machine when I read about the lack of AHCI support in the new bios of this particular model. So I begin to search for a new candidate.

I'm currenly running an AsRock Conroe 945-DVI and works very very well, so I went to the AsRock site and found this recently announced motherboard, that looks very promising for a moderately priced machine. Just include an Intel Q6600 and cound be the fundation of a very fast and cheap machine.

Tell me what you think

Today I get my new machine with a ASROCK 4Core1333-FullHD MoBo and an Intel Q6600. It doesn´t boot the installation-DVD (JAS10.4.8 and some different ones). The 10.4.8 was the only one that shows the normal boot screen, but nothing happens, and iI wait a long time. I also try to boot a hd from another x86 machine, same problem (but no boot sreen).
May be its the chipset? Should I change the mobo?

HI,

When I proposed this motherboard (4Core1333-eSATA2) was for the INTEL chipset. I bought an Asus P5K but I'm not particulary happy with the HD performance, so I'm reconsidering this Asrock mother. It's cheap and potencially very compatible. It has the ICH7R, that works well with OSX.

Your's have an ATI chipset that could be less compatible or not compatible at all. It's a gamble. Search the board for ATI™ RS600 + SB600 Chipsets. May be there's some fix for it. Have luck.

ASRock 4Core1333 great specs for this board
Intel ICH7R Southbridge
sound Realtek ALC888
lan Realtek RTL8111B
it sould work with 10.4.8 as long if you set the sata to ich7
there are some guys with a shuttle pc's with that same chipset and they have it working

it should ... it should ... it should ...

just build some setup with this mobo and test it then ... there is no place for wishes

without checking right mantra is:

it wont ... it wont ... it wont ... it wont ...

at the moment we have (osx86 enthusiasts) something worse than childhood of linux ... so be very carefully

of course i hope for the best :]

Experimenting with this board right now.
It can't boot even install DVD. Hangs after:

"MAC Framework successfully initialized
using 10485 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers"

For sure it is not PATA/SATA issue, cause I tried also USB boot and flat image.
Guess it is BIOS issue. But no luck in attempts to find related information.

Anyone tried 4core1333-eSATA2 with OSX?

Yep, me... and unluckily it doesn't seem to work... sad.gif

Every distro I tried (ToH RC2, Kalyway, IATKOS) hangs up during initial boot from DVD...

1) ToH RC2 hangs up freezing at line "Using 10485 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers"
2) Kalyway hangs up at the same point, but instead of freezing, it continues rebooting in loop
3) IATKOS hangs up at the same point, but instead of freezing with a text screen, it shows the Apple screen with lines rotating endlessly

I tried to boot with several options (platform=x86pc, -v, -x, -legacy, noacpi, cpus=1, ecc...) with no luck; same result changing several mobo BIOS related to CPU, ACPI and IDE functions...

Let's hope someone will be able to release a distro solving this problem: it's a real mess OSx86 does't work on this mobo, considering its features...

"When booting with a -v, the last message I get is "Jettisoning kernel linker" then the DVD stops spinning and the computer sits there" Someone plz PM me if you think you can help.

Which distro did you use?
Which BIOS rev do you have?

"Jettisoning kernel linker" It is a bit more far than what I've seen so far.
It means that you got boot device. Good sign.
Best I've seen is hang when wait for root device with CPUS=1.
If you managed to go further without CPUS=1, then probably we will be able to get it fully working with OSX.

did anyone get the installation working?

I tried again with iAtkos1.0i R2 with -s -x cpus=1 and got these results:

MAC Framework successfully initialized
using 10485 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers
Extension "com.apple.driver.ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin" has immediate dependencies on both com.apple.kernel and com.apple.kpi components; use only one style.

i had to flash my bios back to 1.0 on ASrock4core FUllHD, then all
dvds worked.

kalyway installation works!
but after the installation he doesn't boot:

using 10485 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers

does anybody know, what that means?

should I try it with Bios 1.00 ?

Don't think it will help.

Did you use extra args at boot with kalyway? (cpu=1, -v, -x or whatever)
Or it just works as it is?
ronocker
I used -v cpus=1
but I also tried -v -x cpus=1 platform=X86PC
ronocker
has nobody an idea?
I think, there must be a way to get it working on this motherboard.
The other motherboards from Asrock are working with OSX, why not with this one?
ronocker
for everybody who has this motherboard:

Use bios 1.00 and leo4all v2...
You have to boot with cpus=1 but it works!

to get all cores working read this: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=693319
