I currently have Leopard build 9A410 on my macbook and I would like to upgrade to build 9A499. I know that upgrading isn't directly enabled on the Leopard install disc (you can't just push "Upgrade" in the installer), but does anyone know of a way I can upgrade?

I was thinking of backing up my current build onto my external HDD as a disk image and then installing 9A499 and using the migration wizard to move all my files from the disk image back to my mac. would that work?

I'd go with back up your stuff on an external drive rather than the image because Leopard is a beta and might not actually work that way. Then install a fresh copy of 9a499 and move your apps and files onto it after. That's the best way to go.

THere is a feature called "Archive and Install. " It movies your system files to a folder called Previous Systems, then restores your home folders when the install is complete. This is the best way to install if you don't want to backup. Unfortunately, Apple says it is broken in 9A499, even though it has worked on all the Leo builds so far. Archive+Install also rendered bluetooth unusable in 9A466, but that could be fixed with a kinda-sorta-simple hack.

I've used upgrade in both the WWDC '06 and '07 builds and it worked perfectly each time.

On second thought, after downloading the 9A499 build I've realized upgrade is disabled in this one. Clean install is probably the best solution...

You're wrong. Upgrading has never worked. Why would they waste their time?

They only have upgrade scripts for Tiger, which is the only thing it makes sense to devote time and money to.

Umm... 9A466 let me upgrade perfectly fine from 10.4.10, so how can you say that I'm wrong? It just doesn't work anymore in 9A499.

Yep , Archive & Install worked fine in older versions of Leo.

yeah. oddly enough, 9a466 does have archive & install enabled.

well it looks like i {censored}ed up my 9a410 install. i was being a dumbass and ran Cocktail in Leopard to do some cron tasks. After running though, Mail locks up like hell frozed over and the finder won't let me move any icons, only click on them.

with that being said, I've backed up my Home folder & apps and i guess it's time for me to just format & install 9a499 and then move my stuff back.
