Full Version: DVD drive stops responding (?) ...

Quite strange, this...if I insert a disc and don't access it for a while the drive stops responding, and soon the system hangs (have to press the reset button). This is easily avoidable, I just don't leave discs in the drive after importing to iTunes or whatever...but still, it can be annoying.

It's an IDE NEC 3540A.

this happens with my SATA DVR-212 as well (minus the system hang). I've posted about it before, but no solution yet.

I have similar problem and posted here yesterday. I guess it is because of an incompatible SATA DVD drive.

Anyone has a drive which work flawlessly? Please tell us the model.

almos all liteon drives work.

I also have similar problem on my NEC ND-2510A IDE sad.gif

In 10.4.8 and 10.4.9 the system froze when I tried to access the when it was idle, but in 10.4.10 it doesn't freez, just waits but nothing happens.

So could we narrow down to either DVD drives or is it the actual MB? I dont whink its a MB problem as that would mean that everybody should have the problem with that particular board..

So its down to DVDs.. and i though Pioneer was the brand of Apples choice.
