Yo,

Long time lurker, first time poster (well, technically it's my third, but the first two were eons ago). wink.gif

I've recently hooked up an Asus p5b mainboard and I've read the wiki that suggests using a USB cdrom drive to install OS X, as the DVD won't boot natively on this board (for some obscure reason).

Other than a USB DVD drive (which isn't an option here) has anyone had any luck using any other method, is it possible to create a bootable image for a USB device that can then load up the ROM?

Any suggestions on 'alternative' install options would rock - I'm pondering using VMware to handle the bootstrap and initial install to a physical disk first, then booting natively.. sound like an option?

Suggest away.

no luck unfortunatly,

get a usb cdrom or a usb enclosure for your ide cd. that works 100%

Yeah, I'll score a 3.5" enclosure today - whip the cover apart and use that (temporarily) - I have a spare drive I'm thinking of setting up for the occasional sneaker-net runs where I need to move a few gb via USB 2.0, so no great loss - they're cheap now too.

Thanks.

Another options are:

1-get a SATA DVD Drive. Whatever works fine (see my signature)
2-get a PIONEER IDE DVD Drive. Some guys told that this trade mark works.

Hope this can help you.

I"m having problems booting after instal, and there's no hang up in -v that I can see before it goes the blue screen to login and never gets past..

ideas?

Hoping someone has a close system to mine and could tell me what options they used during instal (patches, vga, etc)
Maybe this could save me some hassle!

Thanks everyone, and good luck biggrin.gif
