I'm on my third MightyMouse now. Same problem each time: it stops scrolling downwards after several months of use.
Surprise surprise my third one is now ceasing to scroll down. No amount of cleaning by the smarmy Apple Store guy will make this thing work now, and guess what, as it's more than a year since my first one (not the last replacement!), I'm not entitled to a replacement.
So I'm stuck with a lemon.

Just be careful when selecting a mouse guys, the MM is a brick in disguise.

I reckon I'm going to fork out and get myself one of these.

Sorry for the rant!

LOL would it comfort you to know that I've had exactly the same experience with a series of Microsoft mice?
sporkguy
I imagine that is probably the case with a few people - but of all the Microsoft hardware I've had over the years (in the dark ages before I owned or considered a Mac, and here I am with 2 of the things!) - the mice were always rock-steady.
Currently I've switched to my old little Mobile Optical Mouse from MS, it's really tiny but does it's job until I can get out and replace the MM.
Even my first gen Intellimouse Explorer lasted for 5 years before finally hitting the great spacebar in the sky! Not 4 months like the MM!

Oh, I agree, previously MS mice have been very solid.. I forget the name & model of the one I use now (I'm not at home atm) mut it's wireless, LED, and has a wheel & sidebuttons.. the wheel quite soon stopped scrolling down on 2, which I returned.

The 3rd is the same, but I had to live with it , as I took it apart to fix it myself (which partly worked) hence it is no longer returnable.... wierd eh?

ive had my MM for about a yea and when it stops scrolling down i just roll the scroll ball on a peice of paper and it works again

I've had my might mouse for over a year and I haven't had a problem with it yet. I think I like the Apple keyboard/MM combo more than anything I ever had for Windows.
erei33
I love the apple keyboard but I dont really like the MM. The MM is good if you have a Mac cause you can configure it for Dashboard and Expose, which is very helpful. I dont like the form factor, it looks good but its not very comfortably. My favorite mouse overall is pretty much any higher end mouse by Logitech. Right now im using the G5 mouse (on my PC) and its the best mouse I've ever used.

Couldn't agree more! The Logitech G5 has passed all my expectations and has been going about a year with no problems whatsoever. smile.gif

I was just going to write and agree with sporkguy. My MM was in the box waiting for return to the local AS because it wouldn't scroll down despite cleaning for 5 minutes. Then I saw the post about rolling it fast upside down on a sheet of paper; a whole load of black crap came out on the paper and now scrolling down works again! Well done guys, saved me a trip to the AS and queue to see the genius (who would likely have done what you recommended and made me feel like an idiot).

i have these ,more than 3 years.
work perfect...
i think that this is the simplest and the cheapest logitech model ...

never get a microsoft mouse either, mine broke after a week

I prefer Logitech Mice have been using them for years. My current is a LX5 Cordless on my desktop and a V200 cordless on my Macbook. Heck my 486 still hasa logitech 3 button mouse and it works fine with regular cleaning.
mac-mini
i have dell mouse on my PC and its fine (logitech standard USB optical with dell loogo slapped on)

Anyone know an mouse with good side scrolling - i mean not only a big whell that you push on the right, something that you really can scroll - (except the mighty mouse) this is only my first mighty mouse, but heh sending it back to the apple store etc ... But I can't stop side scrolling since I got used to with that mouse
I don't want an shitty moue, my mx510 has been performing perfectly for years, but it doesn't have side scrolling.

im using a logitech MX518 on my PC and a MX500 for my laptop, have been using logitech for ages, no problems at all and you can configure them for dashboard/exposé too.

Using a Logitech VX Revolution for my Macbook, absolutely loving it. Got it for 30 CAD. What a steal.. hahaha

I use the Logitech MX1000 for my windows desktop. Seeing the Logitech Cordless Desktop S 530 for mac is looking quite nice. I would get it if I had an Apple desktop.

Logitech... Too alien looking for my hand. Sure the whole point of the alien look is for it to fit like a glove, but in this case they've gone too far. It doesn't feel right on mine. And I feel they charge too much for a piece of Chinaman's work.

I can't get used to the Mighty Mouse scroll wheel. Button's too small so all the friction on a tiny spot of the index finger really makes it sore. In the end I had to give up. In its place I got one cheap-ass Samsung.

Been over 8 months and I'm still happy with it. No glitches whatsoever.

Sure the revolution is like that, but the G5 isnt at all.

The newer G5's are blue and I think they have an extra button. The one im using is the orange kind as shown above. I highly recommend it!

Are there any mice anyone might have found with a touch pad for scrolling? I think I would like that over the miniball and scroll wheel.
KaiNeR
My scrolling temp stopped working but turning it upsite down and rolling the ball on some paper fixed it.
Had it 7 months and its worked perfect. I prefer the MM to any other mouse i've used in the past including all the premier MS laser/wireless/notebook & razor boomslang. Mouse steer is an awesome compliment for the MM.

I have the apple bluetooth wireless keyboard to, i am getting used to it but i can still type allot faster with ease on my MS natural/ergo.

I have to disagree.
My wireless Mighty Mouse is flawless! The scroll ball is great, so is the way the buttons work. The batteries last for months as well.

I think I made a good buy with the mighty mouse smile.gif
Ramm
My Mighty Mouse works great, although every once in a while, I have to do the paper-scrolling trick.
antic
My Mighty mouse scroll ball stopped working as per most of you. If you follow the instructions for cleaning it using a damp lint free cloth then rub the ball along it on a flat surface for a couple of minutes it should work again. Mine did!
mayhew2345
my mm is brand new no problems yet but i love the feel of it logitech is good just doesnt feel as good as the mighty mouse unsure.gif
jackt283
Doesn't surprise me at all. $109 (au) for a wireless mouse. Total BS. The design is incompatible with any other mouse design so you either get used to it and can't go back to other mice, or you just don't use the stupid thing because it is so uncomfortable and get a logitech one that will never break down for $20. Also you won't constantly click the wrong mouse button either.

One of the worst Apple designs ever in my opinion.
vbetts
I've got an IBM mouse...My dads Imac has the might mouse, which I like the design and the concept of it, but I don't think I could use it for like gaming.
jgrimes80
Been using Logitech's for some time now...

Currently using a MX Revolution on my work computer.

No complaints. Period.

I've been using logitech mice for the last, hm, 8 years...not one of them broke and the size is very comfortable. I guess I got used to it...right now I'm using a cabled MX300 (no need to change batteries ;-) ).
With my laptop I use the bluetooth v270 (i think that's the model and no need to use any usb ports or having something stick out of your laptop).
When I bought my first mac (a mac mini) I thought, I'd get a mightymouse, but here in switzerland they cost like 90 sfr, not worth it, sorry.
Plus they are too small, I tried them in the shop and who doesn't have a few mice and keyboards lying around, after owning computers for so many years? It's always the same deal: "I'm buying a computer for 1.5-2 thousand bucks, why not get a new keyboard?" and then you continue your collection...(that's how it is with me)

I actually like the title of this post "...mightyrubbish", sounds funny hysterical.gif

any of you guys ever tried razer? http://www.razerpro.com//index.php?option=...2&Itemid=45

mac keyboard and MX510 here for many years.

Those mice look uncomfortable as hell.

No way am I touching them.

Not to mention that stupid problem with the scrollball and the problem with having to lift your finger up to use right click.

Does it even have a middle button?

Also I don't know about you guys, but Microsoft branded hardware is the next best thing to Logitech IMO.

Unlike their software, their hardware (which probably isn't built by them) is solid.

Best keyboards though are IBM Model M and in second (due to some minor life-time differences) Apple II Extended.
coolmatt49
I love my Bluetooh Mightymouse. The main issues that I don't like is how the scrolling ball stops working and I have to use the "clean-scrolling" technique. Also, I don't like how sometimes (rarely) it stops working with the clicking function, but the cursor function still works.

It also is annoying how your right finger has to press down on the far side of the mouse in order for a right-click.

Besides those minor details, I LOVE my Mighty Mouse; I can only hope that Apple incorporates the Multi-Touch interface into the mouse.

They made a patent for it.

It's on Engadget somewhere.

The Logitech S530 looks pretty good, alternatively I was going to buy a MX revolution from eBay (~$50).

Hey guys!! here's my take.. the mighty mouse is ok.. but the scroll ball problem along with the dashboard poping up from a slight squeeze and the crappy right click and non-rechargable batteries turn me off... so I've been using an MX 700 duo(logitech) that i've been using for almost 6 years and after multiple spills(took the keyboard in the shower to fix it), 5 ft drops, two exploded batteries and about three joints worth of grass below the keys it still worked fantastic until two weeks ago, when no amount of cleaning/dismantling would stop the volume from randomly changing...the spinning volume controls are sealed so i can't get inside to fix.. so I need a new set.. and I want a sweet one! but it seems like logitech is moving away from open platform duos.. the only one they list is garbage(the wave).. and I need something for leo and vista.. so my question is this.. i know the bluetooth mx revo mouse works in leo, as is stated on the logitech site.. but the mx 5500 which is the mx revo mouse and a keyboard is listed Windows only and its missing the apple keys.. so can i use this in mac os and windows with a workaround? thanks for the help! recomend other options if you have any... ecspecially if they have the form factor of the mouse pic posted.... i love my MX!

I've had mine less than a year and I've had the scroll ball problem.

I dipped a Q-tip in a bottle of rubbing alcohol and cleaned the {censored} out of it for a few minutes straight, non stop.

didn't work too well, tried it again, works like new.

I've heard a lot of complaints about them. If it wasn't the fact that it connected by Blue tooth and I can use Expose and my Widgets on it, I would have bought a new one.

Have you tried using this method on ALL YOUR MIGHTY Mouse??

Because im pretty sure you can get this method to fix your Mighty Mouse, it did fix mine and theres 95% of Mighty Mouse Customer who actually found that this method works.

My Logitech MX1000 has been going strong for quite a few years, not to mention that it's the most comfortable mouse I've used to this day. I will never want to change mice ever.
