Greetings,
I have a problem with my Epson EPL-5900: it's connected to my LAN using a standard print server, so I think I should use CUPS with that, as I did in Linux, but I can't find any way to install the printer in OSX using cups.
Any idea?
Dark_Elf
Update: the print server is a D-Link DP-301P and using CUPS and Gutenprint driver I have been able to send the signal to the printer, but it prints white pages or pages with strange characters.
Can you help me?
Dark_Elf
Solved. I used Guttenprint driver. Thanks however smile.gif

I have tried GutenPrint, the "generic" HP driver listed above (which is not truly generic, it only works for a few printers), and just about every resource I could find - to no luck. My Laserjet 1018 is a dead brick as far as OSX is concerned.

I have found many references to using the "foo2zjs" driver found here to drive this printer, and they all claim it works in OSX... yet on the webpage for the driver, I can only find information about Linux. It does not, as best I can tell, support OSX in any form or fashion...

Any help please? The printer is brand new - I'm not sure wth HP decided not to make an OSX driver for it.

(EDIT: Sorry for dual post.... site gave an error, implied post wasn't posted, so I resubmitted... and got a dual post....)

Has anyone ever managed to get the "foo2zjs" driver to work for an HP Laserjet 1018 or similar? It is apparently the ONLY driver for this printer, but even after following all directions (compiling foomatic, etc), I can't seem to get it to work.

The problem appears to be that there is no /dev/usb* device created for the printer, and the compile script does not create the usb_printerid utility either if not running on Linux. That leaves no method to load the firmware onto the printer (a necessity with the Laserjet 1018), and the directions for getting it to work on OSX *SKIP* this critical step.

Please, has ANYONE got a clue on how to get this to work (no, Gutenprint, nor any HP driver will not work).

Hi,

I can't prove it with your 1018.

But I'm able to print with the LJ 1020. HP claimed it would not be able to work with OSX on Intel-Mac's.
Thats not true. Merged the older 1020/1022-driver (PPC) with the 1022-Framework (UB).
And it works within 10.4.8.

Please give it a try! whistle.gif

I made a reply, and for some reason it disappeared.... no clue why.

Anyway, as I said - the 1018 is not the 1020. I did try the 1020 driver very early in trying to get this to work, that was rather obvious.

The 1018 requires that the firmware be uploaded to the printer before it will operate. foo2zjs (as you may have seen, I already mentioned I had tried this) provides the firmware and a hotplug script to load it, and instructions on how to load it... FOR LINUX. Not for OSX. The problem is, that both the hotplug script and the manual instructions require sending raw data to the /dev/usb entry for the printer, a function which is not possible within OSX.

So lacking the ability to load the firmware to the 1018 from OSX, the LaserJet 1018 is a definite "will not work" printer, unless someone can figure out a way to load the firmware.

Hi guys,

I have trouble with my HP DeskJet 815C....I'm running 10.4.6 and my printer is detected out of the box, the calibration and the test pages just work fine, nice color and exact scale. But when I try to print out of an application like mail, OpenOffice or anything, the font's are bigger than they should be but the bottom of the Letters is cut. Looks like the printer couldn't print the font. Looks really strange! Would be very glad if someone could help me!

Thx a lot!

Same thing happens to me with a DeskJet 845C with 10.4.8., also it prints a 1 page PDF-file cut into pieces on up to 5 pages. Tested apps were Preview and Illustrator.
This happens also with the UB drivers available at HP's site.

Same thing happened to me with my hp 1315. I erased all references to hp and apple.com.print in my library in the main HD and in my user folders. Do spotlight hp and print! Then I repaired the disk permissions with /utilities/disk utility to the entire OSX hard drive
. Then I reinstalled the HP packages. I also made sure usb legacy support was off in my bios setup. Then I prayed and rebooted! My printer is working for now! No scanner or multi-function though. My kodak camera is not recognized though. No promises but it worked for me...

This tip does not work for me :-(

Any help is appreciated.

I've tried Gutenprint driver now with quite satisfying results.

Thanx for the tip . But didn't work for me wacko.gif
Guess that's my fault. Had native Macs for long time but with osx86 I'm a new user. Recently installed 10.4.6. Have the same hp lj1100 on my homenet and the same problem. After googling found your old post. If you are still around...
Q: Should I paste that smb:.. line exactly as yours or change name or password or anything else to match my own configuration?

Thank you angel.png in advance.

The LaserJet 1018 now works using the installers and instructions here:

http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPri.../MacOSX/foo2zjs

It still requires manually loading the firmware, but there's a script that you can copy to utilities or wherever to do that, just double click and it loads the printer firmware, then you can print.

Hi to All,

I successfully print on Windows shared printer HP LaserJet 1200 by using GutenPrint 5.1.3 from sourceforge.net and instruction from http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301397.
But not with driver from www.hp.com - it crashes my printing application.

With gutenprint (including numeroues other drivers) all is OK!

I have the DeskJet 940C (USB). While the bare-minimum 10.4.10 naturally didn't include printer drivers for it, 10.4.10 *does* detect it (as has every previous version of OS X) so a quick trip to the HP site solved my printer driver woes (and installing NeoOffice 2.2.1 solved my Word document woes; NeoOffice is an OS X-native clone of OpenOffice). Hooray for USB (at least for printers, it CAN be Implemented The Right Way).

Samsung ML-1750

I've looked on Openprinting etc, can't seem to get it to wor or find driver. THe Samsung site no longer lists mac drivers. I've found copies of SPL 2 and SPL 2.5 floating around, but I can't seem to add the printer in print centre even after I've installed those drivers.

Anyy suggestions?

I have the same problem with my older DeskJet 882C. Test prints are fine though.

DeskJet 940C worked in Tiger using drivers included with Tiger (and updated drivers from HP). Driver support in Leopard is part of the HP Printer Driver Update for Leopard included with Software Update.

I love Plug and Print.

I have a Lexmark Z1420 WiFi printer. The 10.5.1 drivers from Lexmark install fine, printer is found on the network.

If I print a test page, nothing....

If I print from an application (any) the application "quit unexpectedly".

Does anyone have similar trouble? Any suggestions?

I'm looking for OS X Driver for Brother HL-2040. In my driver package, they did not include driver for mac OS X (saying that it should be included already in the OS). Well, since I use hackintosh Kalyway and the drivers got stripped down, no Brother HL-2040 installed on my system.

Anyway, does anyone know how to install extra driver for this printer? Or a way to extract it from the original dvd? Thanks a bunch

Whe you are in the Printer Setup Utility

- hit Add button
- then when the list of available printers appear hit the more printers button but holding the Option key (in PCs keyboard is the windows key)
- in the first list button select advance
- then the second list button changes
- then select Windows Printer via SAMBA
- write a device name
- in the device URI type the smb://user:password@the.ip.of.your.windows.pc/shared.printer.name
-in the list button of the printer model select HP
- in the list of the printers select one of the compatible PCL printers

I believe the LaserJet 4 could work, select one of the Gimp Print drivers I believe they work better.

- now hit the add button and test, try other models if this doesn't work.

Hi Macgirl,

I have installed Leo4AllV2 on my machine and everything is working great, but my printer driver is not included in released version from Eddie. I have Brother HL-5140 printer which works fine in XP and Vista. On brother website it says driver is included in Leopard DVD, because its hacked i can't see that. What could be a solution for that.

my HP Laserjet 2300DTN was seen and installed automatically by Leo4Allv2 and its a network printer. I didn't even know till after i wasted the time d/ling the driver from HP. I did have to turn off the built-in duplexer because it kept printing on both sides of every page when i didn't want it to. There was no option in mac os x that i could find to change that. Also Mac OS X can tell me the status of the toner cartridge.

Just to let anyone else know. OKI do supply OSX printer driver for some of their GDI Windows printers. I thought I had no way of driving my OKI 5250N Colour Laser you can only get the drivers of the american site. Accourding to UK site drivers for this dont exist!!!!!!!! How bad is it when a company that actualy do drivers for OSX dont publicise them. The drivers cover C5150/C5200/C5250.

Hmm.
I can't able to print with it. I'm on 10.5.2, and want to print via network printing with a HP1018 on a WinXP PC. I have installed the foo's stuffs, Leo can "see" the network printer, I can choose 1018 from the list, start the firmware, but nothing happen... sad.gif
And probably nothing wrong with the network because I have a S500 printer, and it works fine with Gutenprinting drivers.
Anyone knows what is the problem?

Hi all!

As I have a DELL 1100 (originally Samsung ML-1610) printer, I wanna post, which driver to use:

Go to the Samsung-site, download the SCX-4200 driver (not the scanner driver) and enjoy! It works like a charm!

After installing the driver, attach your driver via USB and add the printer, using the SCX-4200 driver.

Just double sided printing is not possible, but you can do it manually.

Have fun!

Cheers!

Hi,
Excuse me for my English angel.png .
I have an Epson Stylus Photo 895 connected to a D-Link Printer Server LAN; with my Leopard I managed to run through the LAN, but printer drivers are Leopard-standard-drivers and the 895 prints only in black and white; if I install the 895 directly through USB cable and use the drivers supplied by the Epson web site, the printer works properly.
The problem is that: I can not select them via USB drivers are installed inside the menu of 895 LAN settings.
Exist a way to make the printer work properly trought a LAN Server?
Thank you
