We're always looking for qualified people to help us out around here.
Here are the areas in which we can use some help.
* Moderators (We don't need too many of these, but if you have a lot of moderating experience, let me know)
* News Writers (for the main site)
* Server/Technical Assistant (to be on call for technical support)
* Web design
* Wiki Team (help keep the wiki spam free and up to date)
Requirements:
*You must have been registered for a reasonable amount of time.
*Demonstrated knowledge and understanding related to the position you are applying for.
*You should already follow the forum rules, enforce them, and be ready to help others.
If you feel that you are qualified for one or more of these jobs,
PM me or send me an email at mashugly [AT] gmail.com. Tell me a little about you, your background, and your experience in the area(s) you'd like to help. Thanks! Edit: Please PM
Sabr or one of the other Admins instead.
Please note: We only respond to applications if they are successful, and you should expect a reply within about two weeks from sending.
Applications with no response should be considered as unsuccessful.

Mashugly, I think I'd like to nominate myself for the News Writers/Moderaters Spots. I visit the site several times daily, and have previous writing/editing credits to my name.

What does it take/require to maintain the Wiki clean?
Swad
Dec 8 2005, 04:28 AM
Not much, really. If you go to the Recent Changes section, you can subscribe to the RSS feed. That will automatically tell you when new changes occur, and you can see the changes right from the feed. After thumbing through them, if you see spam, you revert it.
It's pretty easy, really.

I think I could do that.
Do you know how to make FireFox work with RSS?
Meanwhile I look for an extension...
Edit:
Already get it.
I like from Safari the simplier way of taking RSS links.

I could do some graphical work for you guys if needbe, I've done a bit on a few other sites, so call on me for anything that you might need.

Mash...what does it take to write stories for the front section? Would I be responsible for finding new stories and doing an article about them? Or do you pretty much handle anything that goes up front?
I'd probably be interested in doing some writing....

If you need any more mods i have been a senior mod at winbeta.org for some time now (second shameless plug in a week) I also know my way around an IPB control panel and source files (well i did - might be a bit rusty now). I seem to be frequenting this board a couple of times a day at least so pm if you need any more help.

I'm always looking for help with the front page! Basically all it takes is finding good links online and writing a short little something about it. As far as the actual writing style goes, my goal is to maintain a tone that would be a cross between Ars Technica and Engadget, mixing good journalism with wit. Writers need to be good writers and have an excellent grasp of the English language (ie, good grammar, being a native speaker) and, as I ask of everyone (including myself), try to be humble and open for constructive criticism. In terms of time commitments, I'd ask for 3-4 stories a week at a minimum (but if you wanted to write more, feel free!)
If anyone is interested in writing, they should PM me with a list of writing experience (web, blogging, etc) and some writing samples. I'd love the help!

I'm relatively new to these forums, but I've been a Mod on a couple forums in the past(nowhere near the size of this forum, mind you) but I'd like to help clear up duplicate posts and useless posts by being a Mod. I visit this site frequently through-out(hyphen or no hyphen? meh

) the day, so I believe I can help out if you need it.

I would like to put myself forward to help.
I know you have a genius bar section, but personally i think it can be a bit messy, specially for new people coming to the forum, a would suggest a how to/tuturial section that is put together from the more knowledgeable persons on the forum, one that is not generally able to post in so it doesn't get confusing and needs the search button just to browse but would be kept upto to date, as information can become stale and irrelevant.
Also split it into sections, e.g. unix basic command help, installation, sound and video.. It might be a better help to all noobs..

I'd love to be some sort of janitor that cleans up all the unused threads that are just eating up disk space on the server. The kinds of threads that someone posts and gets little or no responses to and that have been sitting there for a while. It always buggs me when I search for something and I get those kind of threads as my reslults. This could help make seaching a lot easier. Maybe I could be some kind of clean up mod? I would really appreciate it.

I've also taken web design in school. I've learned a lot about how to use Dreamweaver. I've made a few websites, but nothing special.

Hello there I got some experience from both Moderating, News Writing, Server/Technical Assistant and Web design as I'm running my own site with all those above included for my class, friends etc

. And for some time ago I had my own Wiki and did all the work myself so I can apply for anything except Invision Power Board Experts.

If I could, I would like to volunteer to be a News Team member. First off, I browse the web for hours a day just looking at things. So if I find a new story, I will be sure to post it. BUT, if that is not possible, I am pretty proficient in Photoshop, so I could also be a designer. I know some HTTP and whatnot, but I am a bit rusty on that. If none of those are open, I would love to be a moderator
Basically, if you have any openings in:
New Team
Designers
Moderator
I would be glad to contribute. Get back to me.

I have visited here at least 4-5 times a day since i've joined (about a week ago), and I plan to keep using this site.
I'd be a great person for web design/graphic layout, I have all the latest web-editing software, and if you give me a task, I'll do it really quick.
Thanks a lot,

Just a note, you'll want to write SABR if you're looking to join the site - I'm not in charge of the staff any longer, so the decision doesn't rest with me! (I've had a few people write me... just wanted to clear that up)

From 9 pages down to 3, this topic has been well and truly hoovered. No more spam or off-topic discussion. Any posts like this will be removed. Only post here if you are interested or considering to apply for any of the mentioned positions in post #1.
Also, as a new rule - applications with no response should be considered as unsuccessful.

OK, maybe my post is off-topic again and it can be deleted.
What I find funny is that none of the people who have become moderators since I am a member have ever applied here, AFAIK.
Also considering that most of them were "junior" from many points of view, I can't help wondering which are the criteria to select them.
This is something I wanted to say for a long time. Now I feel better.
Edit: DaxTsurugi and Colonel did apply here first, apparently.

Ok, well, anyone who applies to this topic is not sending me an application. The first post clearly says that the person must PM an admin. So anyone who posts here will not necessarily be considered (unless it's existence is made known to one of the admins).
And the people who have successfully became moderators are the ones who have not posted here but
carried out what it actually says to do in the first post [refer to my point above]. By that, I mean that no one should have to post here about their intentions to apply for a position. It's a private message sent to an admin, not a public post in a forum topic.
This is the reason why you have never seen anyone apply here become a moderator. People have had the wrong impression of this topic ever since its creation. Don't post here asking to be part of the Moderator/News/Tech teams, as i can guarantee that your application wont be reviewed.
Hope that clears a few things up,
- Sabr.

No problem. And to make things even clearer, I think I'll close this topic (that way, the only option is for someone to PM an Admin).
