ive also noticed that...i think the best is to program the startup of the application with F1 key so u can disable it under WORD ETC enjoy

Glad it works for you guys...

i made another cursor image that i am using now. instead of the cursor always showing, only the shadow remains.

it is a little less distracting (and makes for neat effect while typing).

yes nice try but now the mouse blink as hell sad.gif back to shadow mouse

Another working solution is "iCursor". It's also free and used to make funny looking effects to your cursor.

http://www.giofx.net/osx/icursor.htm

I simple created an empty effect (all values set to zero) and a frame rate of 1. The results in a reare flicker of my mouse (everytime if a mousetearing would happen, the mouse just flickers) but there's no loss in speed etc. Anyhow, it's PPC only. Maybe they provide us an Unibin mad.gif biggrin.gif

Hey guys, I think this is the best place to post this. I used to have all kinds of uglyness with the pointer using safari until I gave this app a try just today. Please confirm if anything has gotten better, no change, or you just like the cleaning rag floating across your screen wink.gif

*hihi*

Okay, basicly it was an April joke. But, in fact: it does it's work!

Okay, the darken of the screen an the washer could be little bit boring after a while.

biggrin.gif Yea I know it was a joke and got a few people. It would have gotten me if I didn't read the replies. Anyway I fugured it would work. All I do is turn it off and enable it when I use apps with heavy tearing like safari.
cyclonefr
that sux guys use mouselocator no blinking effect
just perect with the mouse_shadow
domino
mouse locator? what are your setting? My pointer always blinks.

caveats:

- if enabled, when dragging windows, the windows jump.
- mouse still blinks when always activated

Nice try though smile.gif

Here are my settings:
ACtivate mouse locator
after 1sec
display=infinite
shortcut=F1

then just rename the mouselocator_shadow.png into mouselocator.png and copy/replace it to ur (home) images directory
no more blink under safari and desktop just rocks : a little smooth effect like under XP, but nothing when u scroll under pages
domino
display=infinite was the one I hadn't set. It's better now.

thanks

This problem happens on a asus a9250 that uses the radeon 9250 engine 256mb ddr ? or no

Mouse Locator works great for me Thanx biggrin.gif

I would like to know if there is a way to remove/turn off the os x icon?
so i don't see all the little lines after exiting opengl apps.

and I have a little problem with games, quake 4 and quake 2 work just fine
but when I try to run doom 3 or quake 3 It tells me that it cant find opengl

I'm running a P4 2.8 with 2GB ram ATI 9550 256MB OS x 10.4.6
cyclonefr
hum : for removing the osx pointer, i was having the same great idea but didnt find...
for QUAKE3 or D3 they do work fine for me....10.4.6 is weird install 10.4.5 Myzar works fine on ATI

I feel really stupid, I'm very new to the Mac OS. I have the horrible tearing effects with my ati radion x700 graphics card and installed mousepose to try and fix it. When I try to open mousepose, i get a window that tells me it cannont connect to the internet to download the latest updats, and it seems to me that mousepose never opens. I have not yet solved my ethernet driver problem so i cant use the internet. I cant edit any setting in mousepose because i dont think i ever opened it. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

Thanks
Don Luca
I want to share my experience with you guys....

I downloaded and played with a game named Tribal Trouble and i was getting the mouse tearing problem...
When i disabled the Hardware Cursor, the mouse tearing went away... and it was perfect: no artifacts nor pointer flickering.

So the problem is that in osx the pointer is Hardware accelerated...

In fact, if you erase the ati kext and go with basic VESA mode, the pointer is perfect.

Now I'm wondering if there's a way to disable the acceleration for the mouse pointer...
I'm pretty sure I can do this.
I'll do research and post here any development.

See you.
cyclonefr
else u can buy a X1600 and use ATINDRV hack smile.gif
dripple
Maybe this thread is getting to old, so many of you don't know the facts:
The mouse tearing IS a problem of the hardware accelerated mouse cursor. And of course: VESA-driven cards have no artifacts.

And: currently there's no way to disable the hardware accelerated mouse driver. A solution would be a small extension that hides the pointer while scrolling using the scroll wheel. This would minimize the mouse tearing a lot.
aberracus
The Real solution was X1600 XT ati drivers hack, now we dont have tearing anymore Cheers Boris!!!

So, is there allready a better solution then using external apps like MousePose or MouseLocater etc? (without buying x1600)
Is there a solution by just changing a kext or remove something...?

I'm using a Radeon X700 and have it all running (QE, multi res etc) except that i'm having ANNOYING mouse artifacts.

What is the trick!?

Here is yet another way to improve the mouse tearing; I personally don't like the adverse open gl performance I get with Mousepose and the like when activated. So here's what I did. Install USB Overdrive, this is shareware but it works 100% without registration, it's available at USBOverdrive.com. Restart the computer. Next go into the USB Overdrive System Preference pane, create a new setting and select your browser application. Now change the Wheel Up setting, select keystroke in the pull down menu and change the keystroke to up(using the up arrow). Do the same for Wheel Down using the down arrow. You should have less mouse tearing when you scroll as it is actually just sending the down arrow key everytime you scroll down. If you like to scroll a little faster you can change the Wheel Up & Down to Page Up & Down.

Hi, anyone notice that after quitting some games, eg SimCity 4, the cursor disappear and change into horizontal line. Does anyone know how to solve this ?

Thanks

No, not really but it has nothing to do with mousepose or the other tools. You can use PinPoint to keep your pointer but you will still see the lines. Also like any other overlayer, PinPoint won't change the cursor for example if you enter some text.

But it is a nice tool if you want to see your pointer. In the settings o PinPoint, select shadow and adjust position and opacity. then you will get an osx pointer.

add Display control to Menu Bar, for easy toggling of refresh rate, to fix mouse line problem.

go to System Preferences / Displays, and check, "Show displays in menu bar".

after quitting a game that causes you to lose your mouse, you can pretty easily change
your refresh rate up or down, then back to your prefered rate, with no need to log out.

Does this 'hack' work with JaS 10.4.7?

I have Asus eax1600xt silent and Ihave blocks here and there on the screen.
Will this hack fix this problem?

it seems like there is no actual solution for mouse-tearing except on the x1600 and cards like that, which is riduclous....Mouse Locator is ridiculous, I don't understand why anyone would want to lose such usability of the mouse just to not be annoyed...this is ridiculous, someone develope a hack already....
thysm00
If you use mouselocator and have disabled beamsynch at the same time, you just can't notice the difference between with and without mouselocator...

And Xtraa, thank you very much for the ikey thing, i use it a lot to launch every script at startup, that's a perfect utility!
glopez
Hi Shimms, please tell us how install the ATI Drivers. What is the procedure?
Thanks in advance!
masterkain
seems like that no one developed an hack to get rid of mouse tearing once for all, that's too bad.

not everyone can upgrade or switch their graphic card just because they're on a laptop, like me.

I'm on an hp pavilion zd8237ea, radeon x600 with QE/CI@1440x900, JaS 10.4.8, works well, I use Mouse Locator for months waiting for a fix that seems like it will never come sad.gif

I know, I know, buy a real mac.. well, I've an iMac 24", but I really want to use osx on my laptop smile.gif

I recommend U to use Mightymouse app which U can find in my signature to replace Mouse Locator, I think that program is better one!

Is there any way to set opacity to 0, because the min value in version 2.5.1 is 10.

Just thought i would let you all know... new program out there called Mouse Locator. as far as i can tell, does what Mousepose does, only FREE!

and... you can pick custom images for it... you see. also, it is implemented as a system preference pane. rather than an application (its universal BTW).

Download Mouse Locator
then..

1. install.
2. grab this .zip of images..

3. The MouseLocator-Blank.png is just a completely transparent png. the MouseLocator-ShadowMouse.png is an attempt to make things look a little better (Cursor Shadow). ShadowMouse has some funny side-effects, try it, you will see..

4. rename one of the MouseLocator png's to MouseLocator.png ...simply place it on your Pictures folder in your Home folder.

5. go to system prefs, turn on "Activate Mouse Locator" in the mouse locator pref pane.
also turn on "Always On"

this has worked much better for me than mousepose did...

use the *Blank.png for a mousepose type results.

good luck.

EDIT: fixed images archive... oops.

This method worked perfectly on my Radeon 9700 Mobility, JaS 10.4.8 DVD

I would recommend this over Mouseposé simply because it sorts out the problem and is completely free
initrc
It works great here too with an Intel GMA 950 graphics card. I still get the occasional random mouse tear here and there (it happens when I suddenly stop the mouse pointer), but it's light years better than what I had.

Thanks. smile.gif
