Hi All,
First off, let me say thanks to everyone who contributes to this excellent resource!
I've been running my OSx86 install for a couple of days now, and am having a lot of fun playing around with it. I have installed 10.4.3 (8F1099) on an older Pentium-M laptop, with an 855GM chipset (SSE2 and no PAE, but working thanks to Maxxuss and his patches). Most things seem to be working just fine, however, I can't seem to get the video working quite right.
The Graphics/Display link says "VGA-Compatible Controller", so I assume I am only running the basic VGA driver. It also says "Kernel Extension Info: No Kext loaded." I would like to try for some accelerated graphics, perhaps even QuartzExtreme! I have followed a number of posts related to getting the AppleIntel830*.kext files installed, but I don't seem to be having much luck. I have changed all of the id string settings to "0x35828086", but I find the following errors in the system log upon startup:
Dec 3 15:27:54 localhost kernel[0]: GFX0: family specific matching fails
Dec 3 15:27:54 localhost kernel[0]: display: family specific matching fails
Dec 3 15:27:54 localhost kernel[0]: Matching service count = 2
Dec 3 15:27:54 localhost kernel[0]: Matching service count = 5
Dec 3 15:27:54 localhost kernel[0]: Matching service count = 5
Dec 3 15:27:54 localhost kernel[0]: Matching service count = 5
Dec 3 15:27:54 localhost kernel[0]: Matching service count = 5
Dec 3 15:27:54 localhost kernel[0]: GFX0: family specific matching fails
Dec 3 15:27:54 localhost kernel[0]: display: family specific matching fails
I am guessing this is why it defaults to the basic VGA driver. Could anyone offer some advice as to how to approach fixing this, and maybe getting QE working? Thanks very much!
Best,
Scott
