Hi Maxxuss, all,
I've been trying to get a P4 550 3.4ghz 1mb cache cpu working with your various kernels, under 8F1111. So far, no luck.
Intel's cpu id program (from dos on a usb stick) sees it as lacking Execute Disable, and in fact I've gotten farthest with your NONX kernel than with others.
I can get as far as booting graphically and getting an endless whirly under the grey apple logo, or booting safe mode and getting yellow "Failed to load extension com.apple.driver.Apple.xxx" messages for AppleUSBUHCI, EHCI, FWOHCI, GenericPCATAROOT, etc. etc. ...is this an issue regarding the nonx kernel not compiled against build 8F1111?
If you could let me know your thoughts, and how I could help test and debug, I'd be happy to pass dumps back and forth to you, or whatever you need.
Thanks much,

You might have to install in vmware to the actual partition, and then boot natively after that.

The system in question is a nicely running 10.4.3 from an install dvd that was patched. The goal was to upgrade from a Celeron to a P4... so putting the Celeron back in makes the system useable, new kernels can be copied, the P4 swapped, and booted.
The problem is (I think) that the NONX kernel 3.0b was for the 8F0xxwhatever version, not the 8F1111 ... or simply that the P4 550 is skunked, as I think it might be.

I take it all back... I just found Maxxuss's latest (so far):
[DMCA Violation Edited by Hagar]
described as "Maxxuss_Kernel_SSE2-Patcher_NoNX_10.4.3_8F1111_raw-test2.zip"
Works great. Gorgeous. Fast. No benchmarks to prove that, but "I upgraded the kernel and everything seems so much snappier!" (it's a Mac joke. Newbies to OS X might not get that...)
So, P4 550 is now "officially" compatible with 8F1111 with Maxxuss' newest nonx patch.
