Alright, so it took me at least 100 hours of reading and finding and searching and copying but I think I've finally found a nice set-up which will work basically natively or with some minor patching. This is going to be built for my friend to dual boot XP, OSX, and possibly Vista eventually.

So much work for such a short list... *tear*. Anyways... I'd appreciate feedback (mainly just to calm my nerves at this point I think ).

I did have a question about the Motherboard... It is obviously one of the best for OSX what with basically all its problems being fixed and patches being created, but does anyone know if theres a difference in the rev.? Newegg also has the rev 3.3 for sale here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813128012 . Anyone know if the difference will make ...well... a difference?

Oh another quick question... I've gone through the HCL for video cards trying to find a basic cheap one cause he won't really be doing any games but couldn't really find one that is still being sold that doesn't require a lot of work to get going. Any ideas? Doesn't have to be DVI either. We've got a monitor laying around over here with VGA that would gladly sacrifice itself.

Crap... one more quick question (the last I promise)... for dual booting I was thinking of going with the Acronis method. Anyone have a reason why I shouldn't?

My recommendation, is what worked for me, I know that its not the best(Pentium 4). Though here I go:

A Pentium 4 HT processor, which I think it`s enough and a D915GAG intel mobo...

I chose this board `cause it`s almost a intel mac, everything worked out-off-the-box including hardware graphics acceleration, sound (just rear-out), sata..
I meant EVERYTHING.

I do like the native support your system gives you but my friend will really want to run with a core 2 (especially with the half priced quad core cpu I can get). This desktop is going to last him a while so he's gunning for some new hardware. I myself have a P4 hooked up to an ECS848p-a (i think) motherboard and have been running OSX from it for about a year off and on. I agree with you that it is pretty much enough (except when doing things like video encoding, it pretty much dies bad when it has to do that) but this one is built to last awhile. I even may consider using this board for another computer that I was thinking about building. Thanks for you reply, I appreciate it!

Just a tip take a look at the osx86 wiki HCL for the version you pretend install, if your board is really compatible.
You probably already did it, but it`s a matter of formality, and for other who are seen this post is always good to know.

VGA: use the ATI radeon X1800 it`s great and fully compatible (just small patching)

I would recommend the 7600gs 256mb if you just want a cheap card that works. Fast enough and you can even run dual displays on it. Of course if you want to spend more than $60 there are the other Ati and Nvidia cards.
