My Usb controller was working until I installed jas's 10.4.9 update .Is there anyway to get it back ?

Do you have a backup of your 10.4.8 kernel extensions? I ran into the exact same problem, and you have to replace at least six kernel extensions with the old ones (though I didn't really have to replace the loginwindow service). Most of them involve the ACPI kexts.
There's a thread around here that has the exact names of the ones you need to replace.
