My rig contains many mixers, though my favourite for use with my Mac is my Alesis Multimix Firewire 12. I really recommend it, as it is great value and OMG, its Firewire and 12 channels of it. Its great for the beginner recorder who wants a cheap, but perminant solution for recording their band. I very much recommend it.

The Official Alesis Website

The best place to buy the mixer

Well...hope that was of use smile.gif

Is it possible to use this along side the M-Audio Firewire 410?

Yes u can use with FW410. But I am curious if you ever got any glitches in recording with the Alesis FW Mixer. I have the 12 & I have not been glitch free at all. Little "clicks" in the recordings....

Thanx, SM

I have not had any issues with recording using the Alesis FW 12. I think its a GREAT product. I do have a question for all of the pro's out there though. I want to create a live stream for a website. I have all of the server stuff working no problem. Anything I say in my microphone gets broadcasted to the website. However I want to play little blurbs from my PC which is using the Alesis as both input and output. I can hear the audio (mixed with my Microphone) perfectly via headphones etc... but on the broadcast I only hear the microphone. Its as if the computer's audio is not being mixed even though it sounds like it is. Anyone have any ideas?

Do I have to take the audio out from the mini and put it to a channel on the mixer and set the mini's audio out to core audio instead of the Alesis?

Thanks

J.P.

A couple ways, yes, mac audio to mixer & back, like 2 trk mix I believe on Alesis. Or, depending on software, NiceCast lets you mix in an application like iTunes ALONG WITH the mic, no matter the driver/hardware. Hope that helps. What Mac do u use the Alesis with. I use a 1.5G PB. I can't use the Alesis with it using FW. I have to use as a mixer to iMic or M-Audio USB unit. The Alesis works fine with a PC HP laptop but I have tried on eMac, Intel MacBook & my PB & always get glitches. Alesis says probably the FW cards in computers, but not compatible with new MacBook? I have seen iothers have issues. Rarely a glitch free guy like you. So, I wonder what u use. Also, they said try PCMCIA FW card & I have 2, same problem. They say there are a couple they know are compatible, but that means getting ANOTHER FW BusCard for like $80 just to "try it". Been suckin'. I dig the mixer, just wish it would work on Mac. That's real bad on Alesis. Mac is the most important hardware for audio recording & it should be compatible with Mac before PC I say.

Anyways, lemme know yer Mac, etc... THANX.

I will have to try the nicecast. I am trying every cable connection/button configuration and it just does not send the sound to quicktime broadcast. Oh well. As far as the Mac I use: Mac Mini 1.42GHz G4 with 1 GB Ram, and a LaCie 250GB external Firewire HDD, OS X 10.4 (.10 as of today) and it works great. I have had no glitches at all. I use 2 Behringer Condensor Mic's / Rodruigez Classical for classical guitar recording and a Line 6 POD / Yamaha RGX 312 Electric guitar for Shredding al a Dream Theater smile.gif haha.

I have not tried the mixer on a Windows Box but I love this mixer soo much I bet it would be fine. As far as recording gear I have purchased over the years...It ranks at the top of my best buys.

Thanx for all the info, bro. Like I say, I get glitches with EVERY Mac (3) I have. As for NiceCast, it should solve your problem. If u can't get it easy PM me.

Got and tested NiceCast. Within 10minutes I had a fully functional setup. Works like a champ...Well worth $40 for the software I may be investing.

Thanks SM for your input it was a perfect solution!!!
