First of all i want to thank phb for making this possible, he wrote the driver a long time ago, with only a few bugs left.
So after playing with it for some time, i've got it working as it should.
The original thread: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...l=ALPS+Glidepad
This driver is based on the FFScroll project: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...l=ALPS+Glidepad

The functionality so far:
- Tapping
- Horizontal scrolling
- Vertical scrolling
- Circular scrolling

What i did?
I've put the trackpad.kext in an appleps2controller.kext with the keyboard.kext and the mouse.kext that where missing in the RC1 version.
I also wrapped it up into an installer, makes thing a lot easier wink.gif

I also must note, i had this tested by someone else, he only had tapping, so it doesn't work for everyone!

Your touchpad will be extreme sensitive at first, so i've attached 2 screenshots with the settings that worked for me.
If you don't like them, you can always toggle them smile.gif

Credits for the driver go to phb
He is not responsible for any changes made to your computer, i am smile.gif

If your keyboard is not working after the installation, just put your old:
CODE
/System/Library/Extensions/ApplePS2Controller.kext

back, so make a backup before installing the driver.
Also because this is my first package tomato.gif

Almost forgot, phb gave me his permission to distribute as long as he wouldn't be responsible smile.gif

Dense
Did you make any source code changes or is this just a package of his original release with better default settings?
deamobile
I did not have the sourcecode, so no.
I just made the applepscontroller compatible, it was only containing the driver for the trackpad, not for the mouse and keyboard.
So you could say it's the original release, with settings included, because a lot of people gave up on it due the sensitivity.
Dense
I was hoping someone would consider taking the newest FFScroll and porting the changes phb did. From what i've read about FFScroll, the latest version is significantly better than what the source phb based his off.
bubba129
Hey thanks this worked great for me... I had to lower the sensitivity alot but it works great thanks
cyclonefr
can u post ur plist ? it would be easier for configuration
anyway it doesnt fix my problem, cause on my sony vaio the trackpad isnt calibrate as well, i mean the localisation of the mouse moves arent taking the whole trackpad..
deamobile
Sorry for the late response, had a knee operation, so no time to check the forum.
info.plist of what?
The ps2controller or the trackpad.kext?
FavleX
Oh my god! Tell me that this kext does not work with Synaptic trackpad , so ALPS only!!
I kill me...
FavleX
OK , almost good news.
It sounds as revolutionary for people out there wich was hoping to scroll with its synaptic touchpad.
I installed your package, the keyboard is working regular, the pointer was too much sensitive.
Then i changed the preferences (YES the ffs panel preferences is loaded regularly and I can use it..).
The problem is about the two fingers scrolling , I CAN use it but I have to make a lot of pressure on the pad!
Another weird thing I noted is that when I push hard with one finger only , I got the scrolling too.
In both case , the movement is a little bit faster than supposed to be useful.
But I think with little modification people with synaptic around can use it!!
Big win Deadmobile thanks a lot!
Could you suggest me what I can change to get it better??

In the FFScroll panel, you could try deactivating the option
CODE
Ignore weaker axis

The thing with the one finger i haven't figured out for myself yet.
And for the fast movement, you only need to lower the scroll speed.
And thank you for testing it on the synaptic touchpad and your feedback, maybe this project could get of the ground again biggrin.gif

Yes. Thats for sure!
Now I need to know How I can remove and reinstall..I mean , sometimes when I'm testing , It isn't enough to remove the ApplePS2Controller.kext and back the old one for being sure to remove FFscroll from the system.
I got a partition( a whole system i mean..) dedicated just for this so...

Thanks for your effort.
deamobile
Erhm, here goes, i suck at terminal commands, so i hope these are the right commands.
CODE
sudo -s
rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/ApplePS2Controller.kext/Contents/PlugIns/ApplePS2Trackpad.kext

Only this file, not the ApplePS2Controller, else keyboard and mouse won't work anymore!
CODE
rm -rf /Library/PreferenPanes/FFScrollPreferencePane.prefPane
rm -rf /Library/Preferences/com.apple.driver.ApplePS2Trackpad.plist
rm -rf /Library/StartupItems/FFScroll
rm -rf /usr/local/bin/FFScrollDaemon

Now all the files should be gone smile.gif

Edit:
I'm taking a look at the new FFScroll to see if i can upgrade the driver with a newer versions of FFScroll smile.gif
FavleX
uhmm, I made the wrong one right now..sounds stupid..
Do you know where i can find the ApplePS2Controller.kext stuff??
I removed it accidentaly , and I can't use anymore the keyboard of course.

.. glare.gif sad.gif

EDIT: I got it solved , but after a new installation the FFscroll pref panel don'l load anymore..it stays there hanging...
deamobile
I suppose you've installed a new ApplePS2Controller.kext?

If you extracted it from a combo update or something like that, it doesn't contain the ApplePS2Trackpad.kext.
This will cause the FFScroll pref panel not to load.
FavleX
I , back on FFs!
Reinstalled and ready to try again.
Now , after deactivated "Ignore weaker axis" and other configs without any profitablke results , I intend to ask you what I can change in the installer or the kext itself for findng a good solution.
The trackpad at the moment is almost usable ,but the sensitive level and the activated pressure for two fingers scrolling is far from being useful ( too much pressure for activating and very poor sensitivity on moving the page during scrolling..).

as i said above, the driver isnt running correctly the mouse hangs each time i try the mouse the cursor, and ive noticed the trackpad isnt following all my moves on the pad. WTF? i have a sony vaio.
deamobile
About editing the kext.
Don't know what you can change, didn't change anything myself either.
Plist attached.

Same thing happens to me with the cursor hanging. It's really bad. I removed it for now.

I've had this problem up to 10.4.8 and the 8.8.1 kernel.
After upgrading, the problem was gone.
cyclonefr
i was using 8.8.1 and now 8.9.1 = same cursor hanging problem
uNtouched
Are those the removal instructions? I only ask because I don't like how jumpy the cursor is, other than that, it works beautifully....really. I just hate that when I lift my finger to tap a link, it moves off of the link.

I was just reading the rest of the thread, and noticed people having problems with Synaptics? Mine is Synaptics and it works fine except for the jumpyness....

Woahh...update, I followed your directions on removal, couldn't get mouse and keyboard working. The first line should have an / after it. Anyhow, I replaced it with my backed up kexts...and scrolling still works....smoother, and the mouse isn't jumpy, unless i some how had it the whole time, and I just never turned it on....it's working REALLY nicely right now.....I don't know what happened....

Another thing, the funny thing is that it's using the default space that HP provides for scrolling....odd....
jackal217
ffsscroll pref panel used to load but it doesnt now.... whats wrong? ive reinstalled 3 times already and no dice

Hey Guys

I am also using a Synatics mousepad and did the exact same as Untouched (had the same jittery probs with the mouse), now the mousepad works perfectly again and the scrolling function is also working like a charm!
citizenofnowhere
I tried this, and the calibration utility doesn't work for me. In fact, it doesn't disable the hotcorners, it doesn't change any values when I move my mouse, and the done button is not clickable.

Two finger scrolling and everything works on the other hand. I too have a synaptics touchpad, and am too experiencing the freezing of the cursor.
gkr41
Two finger scrolling is it supposed to work only with touchpad that supporting it? 'Cause i have a simple Synaptics touchpad without the scrolling area and i can't make it to work...
Macshiba
This worked amazingly well. I'm glad I found this. Thanks alot! It's a little touchy at times, but with the update of sensitivity options, it's easy to get it working. Also, at times the cursor will freeze, but usually only if you're pressing down too hard, atleast on my pad. Two-finger scrolling works very well, rarely does it mess up for me, and by messing up I mean the scrollbar will freak out and go up and down like I'm scrolling up and down really fast, which I'm not. Tapping works, and the only problem that I sometimes get is the mouse ever so often stopping.

Thanks again.
pphi
Can you disable tap-to-click in this version? The RC1 I have running works great except when I'm typing and I accidently hit the trackpad, it makes my cursor jump to the mouse's position. Disabling it in system prefs doesn't do anything
Matthew Jason
Greetings,

I really want to get it right. However, FFScroll Pref Panel if not working, even remove all related files and re-install, doesn't work. However, I think I could just amend the plist directly, however, I need to know the values and the meaning of the specifications. Anyone could help?

For example, what's minDragAssumedTime? What is horizontalScrollingThreshold? etc... Need to know those before I could optimise the setting for my mousepad.

Thanks.

Matthew
mylescloutier
Okay, I uninstalled using the terminal commands as instructed. However, the FFScroll control panel icon is still there. How do I get rid of it?
Matthew Jason
Greetings,

Another problem is that, when I wanna place 2 fingers to scroll, it will have a time laps, the mouse will move a little before it starts scrolling.. Solution for that?

Matthew
FavleX
..soory..stupid one..just the config.plist as posted some posts ago..smile.gif
bronxboyXXX
I thank you for your efforts but this driver is a complete mess on my vaio.

problems.
it won't scroll correctly.
keeps locking up
my keyboard is acting completely erratic
when i try to scroll it only scrolls halfway down a page (if you're lucky)
FF scroll won't load
when you release your second finger it stays in two finger mode. (This is not how the mac works.) it disables the second i lift your second finger.

I have been able to resolve some of the jittery problems myself with other installs but this is by far is the worst so far.

and whats up with FF Scrolle? how do i get it to load again?
ranova
anyone know if this will be updated anymore? I have OSX86 leopard on my dell m1330 and the side scrolling doesnt even work sad.gif
Chrysaor
Both horizontal and vertical scrolling works fine for me on Leopard.

austinsnyc
I think you should change your package! My touchpad now works with scrolling by removing the everything but the PS2.kext. once I followed the removal instructions everything works great! thanks this was one thing that really bugged me about having Mac on my laptop. Now if the 3495 Wireless gets fixed ever we will have fully functioning HackedMacs smile.gif thank you again.
Last question did you modify any kexts or just use the one from the 10.5.2 update?
MeDevil
Hi all, I was working on the alps source-code to implement native edge scrolling (scrolling on the edge sides, like in windows).
The attached kext file should be placed into the ApplePS2Controller.kext/Contents/PlugIns/ folder.

The configuration is done by opening System Preferences / Keyboard & Mouse:
"Use two fingers to scroll" will enable vertical edge scrolling.
"Allow horizontal scrolling" will also enable horizontal scrolling (on the bottom of the pad).
"Scrolling Speed" does exactly what the names say: regulate the horizontal and vertical scrolling speed.

Interesting features to be implemented (don't know if i'll implement them):
- Angle-tapping (can simulate the click on the up/down buttons of a scrollbar)
- Automatic edge scrolling activation (ie: use the entire pad area when the cursor is already moving)

NOTE:
- On first load, you should regulate the tracking speed and enable the tapping by unchecking and checking "Clicking" under the trackpad gestures.
- I don't think "Trackpad Options" works, so don't blame me if they don't work tongue.gif
- I've also attached the source code, if someone would like to do some mod...

ALSO NOTE:
I will not provide support (this include email, forum, pm's) for those source nor for the kext.

Regards, Domenico.

Hi, does this driver support "right" click tapping with 2 fingers (like in true macbooks)?
Thanks

No, sorry... the only supported thing are edge scrolling (on the right side for the vertical, on the bottom for the horizontal).
Like i said before, this one works like the synaptic driver in windows, so if you want the "2-fingers" features, why don't you buy a "true macbook" instead? biggrin.gif

Hi all

been trying this driver on my dell latitude d600 using 10.4.8.. after installing the ALPS driver, my trackpad won't work anymore.. I have replace the ApplePS2Trackpad.kext with my original.

any news on implementing this in Dell D600.. from fresh install I already can tap-drag, and I'm not sure if I have synaptic or ALPS..

Do I need to install FFscroll driver? or just simply copy the kext to plugin folder like you said?
I did copy it change owner, permission, restart, not thing happend (there is no 2finger option in keyboard/mouse property).

this work for me, but if i go in the system preferences, i do not have 'trakpad' options anymore.

I didn't mean to be the "all the answers"-man.
I just modified the sources to work in the way i want and though i have to share them with the community...

Again, i'm sorry... next time i'll try to use the [ironic][/ironic] tags biggrin.gif

This might sound stupid, but where is my "plugins" folder? I can't find it...I did use this tutorial already.

I had a problem.
When I install your package and reboot, I can't use my trackpad. It just goes to the up-left angle. Is it normal? How do I resolve that?
