Full Version: Anyone figured out a way to stop apps going 6 channel?

I've seen a lot of questions about this but no real answers. In theory, logic should be told there are only 2 channels available but even if I set number of output channels to 2 in the setup assistant, Logic always switches sound to 6 ch on loading = screwed up sound throughout osx.
Seems strange that even after setting it to 2 outs only in setup assistant, there are still 3 stereo outs to choose from in logic (output 1/2, output 3/4, 5/6 ect).

A workaround is to have Audio MIDI setup always open and manually change it back each time but it's rather annoying and can cause logic to crash occasionally.

Is there a logic setting file we can edit or something?

I'm using onboard sound with the SiS 7012 drivers. (

well, I didn't found a real solution for this problem, but there is a workaround. Use Soundflower, install it and copy soundflowerbed application to applications folder. Restart computer and start soundflowerbed. In logic select soundflower 2ch or 16ch as your defauld device, also selecting your audiocard as destination for logic output. Also, be shure to select low latency for near realtime operation.

Now you have fully operational OSX soundcard and perfectly working Logic. Hope this helped you and others seeking solution for this...

Thanks for the tip. Does this introduce additional latency on top of the core audio buffer latency that is already there?

Yes..
