there is a laptop at the local staples for $397, brand new (in canadian $$$)
it is a cisnet laptop, with
intel core solo T1350
512MB DDR2
80GB hdd
dvdrw drive
intel gma950 graphics
don't think it's intel wireless, may be broadcom
should this laptop be highly compatable with osx86? if not, what laptop would be the most compatible with osx86 (other than a real mac. the real ones aren't cheap) i'm hoping to spend less than $1000 canadian.
thx!!!

Here's the simple advice.... I'm an IBM guy... my wife's a Mac user - so I got her a Pro Book 15" (yeah, a lot of money). My toshiba runs circles around it - as long as its WIN XP. So look at what your saying....
a single core - blah
and no memory.... remember MAC's run because you put 4 times the memory a MS machine would use
and if it's a laptop - it had better be 802.11 latest compatible or it's worthless.
The short of the advice... it's like the new Windows Vista (which sucks).... if you want to enjoy your computer do it right, otherwise, plan to spend a lot of time and headaches WAITING for the machine to produce and expect compatibility issues. Best of luck

i see...
but my friend has a mac mini intel core solo (it's a 1.5ghz, i think), and 512MB ram, and it seems to run extremely well! much faster than i thought, and the only reason i'm considering this is because it is only $397 canadian, and i need a laptop.
so........
i'm gonna read into it more, but thanks for the advice!

the advice is free... your potential new laptop isn't... I think it sounds like a great bargain (cheap) - I sometimes forget... when your not use to a Ferrari that Chevrolet will get you to work.

Any idea what sound chipset it has? If it is some odd one, you'll never get audio working.
