I bought a 17.4" MSI L720 (wide screen) and soon i discovered that on this laptop i canot install native.
Boot with -v show :

After long weeks of search i managed to install via vmware.

Boot in vmware OK (with sound and usb) but boot native not working. Search again and replaced IOUSBFamily.kext with same from 10.4.3. (debug version - wich it seem that is removing IOUSBFamily.kext from loading and t)

Boot native again and hang on blue screen- solution :paperclip trick.

Finally i can boot. It boot very fast (15-20sec.) and I have ethernet working but no sound, no USB, no wireless.

I feel i am in a dead end but i dont want to giveup. Please help. Any hint will be high appreciated.

Here are my specs :

To check what happens during the boot process, check the log. One way to do it: go to applications, then open the Utilities folder and look for the "Console" icon. Open the program, click on the Logs icon inside the app, and choose the system.log. There goes all the info of the kernel during the boot process.

The USB system has two controllers, one for handling USB 1.1 devices and the other for the USB 2 (high speed) devices, that explains what is the EHCI / UHCI. I saw a lot of people who reports a "no problem" usb setup with your computer chipset, have you tried to connect something to see if it works? Maybe its just a warning message.

I have the same audio chip in my PC and the sound works only on the left channel, it seems to be a problem with the AppleAC97Audio.kext, (I'm using os version 10.4.8)

this are my 2 cents.

Thank you jcordero for your reply. I was on the way to think that this is a zombie forum. I am at work now but first thing when i go home i will check system.log as u mentioned.
As for usb when I connect a memory stick nothing is "mount" but i have power on usb port (the led of memory stick is on).
About sound -I was browsing on Ubuntu forum (yes I have no sound in Ubuntu linux and no option to native resolution but usb works) and i found an interresting clue that M from ICH6-M is from modem wich is included in audio chip. So I think this is to "weird" for MAC OSX and from here my problems. In fact what i don't find in this forum is the combination ich6-m and alc655 codec that I have.
Anyway I am anxious to go home and check system log and now that i know what ehci and uhci are maybe i will find a way...
Thank you very much again.

P.S. What "this are my 2 cents" mean ?

in fact, i have the same problem... i can boot in safe mode, but in single user mode not... i don't have audio, ethernet, qe /ci but my graphic card is recognized ok, i don't know what i'm doing wrong, if you have some advanced acknowledge about electronics you may want to look at realtek's page, one datasheet for alc655, you may find the apple developer drivers for usb... it worked for me! but at now i honestly forget where i find it!, use search, or google, may be it can help

PD: my two cents, means my litlle sand grain... or my little help on...
bogdan08
thanks for reply gvelasquez85. it seem that new members are much willing to help then any guru or moderator on this forum.
unfortunately i have no skill in electronics and i think that southbridge ich6m is causing more trouble then alc655 codec. about usb i have tried all versions of developer driver from 10.4.3 to 10.4.8 and the only one wich allow me to boot native is no log driver from 10.4.3. (even if i am using 10.4.5 or 10.4.7 installation). anything else just stop the boot process with usbehci-usbuhci error or i have a loop of usb error.
about your problem (i can boot in safe mode, but in single user mode not... i don't have audio, ethernet, qe /ci but my graphic card is recognized ok etc.) you can start a thread and first step is to describe your hardware and what distribution of osx u are using.

After many tries i discovered that i have sound in vmware if i install osx (jas 10.4.7 repack) and i configure vmware for sound. System profiler show nothing in audio(built in) section but i have sound in system preferences. Problem is that if i want to boot native i must change iousbfamily.kext with same from 10.4.3. After that my sound dissapear and in system prefererences show "no output devices found" and output volume is mute (and is greyout and canot be unmuted). Anyone know how can i have at least sound back?

As i mentioned in the subtitle of this post "there is a will..." I don't want to giveup. But now i need some help.

I read in wiki (HCL-Portables) that some of guys managed to install without problems and they have sound and usb on similar or identic configurations(chipsets, controllers, processors) with mine.

Unfortunately their indications were vague (like: "i modified all Info.plist on relevant kexts to have sound on Realtek ALC655- ICH6M") . So what kexts i need to modify?

I managed so far to load AC97Audio.kext by deleting some lines in IOAudioFamily.kext wich were linked to IOUSBFamily.kext( because as i said i canot load IOUSBFamily.kext. )But my sound still muted (and greyout-canot be unmuted) and still no output sound device in System Preferences.

I dont understand: if kextload is succesfully ( IOAudioFamily.kext ,AC97Audio.kext, AppleAc97ICH.kext) why still no sound?

Sigh,

I am using a Shuttle Box and have the same thing. No audio, everything greyed out. I have USB and Ethernet (onboard). I am using uphuck 10.4.9 v1.4. I have tried everything I could to load AppleAC97Audio.kext. No sound. I am still searching, and will let you know if I can find something that is working...

i am having the same exact problem with Leopard 10.5.2. i have the same audio card like bogdan08 has. there are no sound whatsoever but there is speaker icon on the finder bar. as for usb, there is led but not mount. i've been searching many forums and still have no clue. i'm about to give up on this. the other options are get a pci or usb sound card. i have heard that some people put pci usb card in and everything works. i dunno, as i haven't try that yet.
