Full Version: Dual Booting OSX for ProTools?

Hello Anyone,

I've just started using a MAC, so I'm, pretty new to the platform. I also just started using ProTools LE 7.3, which came with the MBox2 Pro. The issue is this: in order to get ProTools working OK, you have to tweak the system, to the point were it compromises the funtionality, convenience, and beauty of the OSX system. I,m therefore looking for an alternative!

The tweaks are these, by the way:

1. Turn off software update
2. Turn off energy saver
3. Disable spotlight indexing
4. Disable spotlight shortcuts
5. Disable dashboard shortcuts

Does anyone know if you can dual boot OSX? Like, partitian the drive and have two installs of the OS on the same drive? Then I could set the tweaks for each install. Or, is it possible to use/create Apple scripts, of some kind, to make the tweaks before I load ProTools, and then convert the OS back to it's original state when I exit the program? Also, could I do it with account profiles, like set up two admionistrator accounts, etc?

Any comments would be apreciated.

Of course is possible. But probably an Apple Scripts solution would be more efficient.

Anyway you shouldn´t comply about having to tweak just 6 little things in macosx to get stable audio. You won´t believe how many things I use to tweak in Windows every time I build an audio computer for my clients lol.

Two user profile...that sounds interesting. You might wanna try that.

The reason Pro-Tools asks you to do that is so that your sessions won't be interupted. For example if you were in the middle of recording and your comp. went to sleep you would temporarily lose connect. w/ your Mbox resulting in Pro-Tools freezing up.

Those few little tweaks they ask of you are nothing. They're all for your own good.

On the other hand - if you know you're not gonna be doing any sessions for a while, you can always change the settings back for the time being.

Why not just use Windows? I know that's a bad word around here, but I use it in my studio every day and it rocks. I have had no latency issues and no stability problems. In fact Windows lets me optimize my machine in ways my macs won't. (i am referring to XP not Vista)
