First Off Food and Wii? They both are a bit off. In terms of simplicity and 'quality' in more of a pro design, you got it.

As a professional web designer, I need to know what is your site about before I make my decision. I mean, it "looks" better but in terms of design the look is not everything, what matters the most is if you're sending the right message.
[EDIT] Sorry, I didn't see the "Made for personal/portfolio website" part, my apologies. Yours is better, but you need to clarify the message. Are you involved in flowers/plants?

Yours, I would use a different color for where the logo goes, I mean the white lettering, but yours looks good.

IMHO design should be linked with content, and as such, both of your designs fit the intended content. As such, a direct comparison is somewhat impossible; probably having similar content will make "judging" easier.
But I like how "clean" your design looks compared to the clutter he has on his design which is almost similar to most gaming sites. However, your design also lacks the "finish" (or to coin another term, "gloss") I'd expect from such a clean and simple design, but you're on your way to it (constructive criticism).
Based on personal preference and basic design, yours wins without contest. There's more design involved in your site than just simple layouting and copy+pasting.

I like yours more, however I don't like Serif fonts on web sites as a general rule. His is too cluttered and busy.

Both have their advantages, and the choice would all depend on the target audience. Are they gamers, or professional business people/artistic folks?

Neither one is really good BUT at least yours is not as cluttered, and yours has slightly better layout.

Definately yours looks better. The other one lacks professionalism...as mentioned before, it looks more of like a gaming site, which usually are cluttered to the max. The colors in yours also compliment each other, wheras on the other one...its all over the place (again, a typical gaming site design).
