who doesnt lol, did you order your motherboard yet
nah, in no hurry..... I'm actually taking my time with the case, because I'm not super stoked on any current hardware. It won't be long until intel ditches the front side bus with nehalem, and that will mean a new socket/motherboard/cpu/ram, etc.... I wonder if I can hold out that long... my current hack has been so stable and worry free, that I am starting to think I should hold out for nehalem at the end of 08. In the mean time, I can get my G5 case all buffed out and ready. If I buy the hardware now, I'll just do a rush job. If I can't hold out for nehalem, I might just take my time sourcing the parts on ebay, and build on the cheap for now....

jeez..... be creative..... that's what modding is all about. it should just slide in from the inside. you just need to secure it. i've already demonstrated that sockets can be modified, and mounted by fashioning a custom connector out of ABS and then fusing it to the plug using ABS cement. you can get abs sheets at hobbylinc, and ABS cement in the plumbing section of your local hardware store.

Another one to the group!
It's not 100% finished so please forgive me if inside it's still a mess

To Do List:- Install the DVD-ROM (first I have to buy some internal parts that didn't came with my case)
- Make the front panel to work with the Power Button, HDD blue Led (instead of the front audio out) and the USB. Right now I'm really improvising as you can see on the last picture

- Buy 2 90x90mm Coolers for the back of the case
- Buy a modular PSU so I can remove some unecessary cables
- Sell my 8800 GTX an get a 8800GTS G92 wich overclocks more, consume less and would allow me to use the plastic side panel
- Maybe switch to Wather cooler (I already have some parts in mind that woul fit like a glove)
Comments are welcome

to answer a PM about how I did the ABS frame around the rear ports, I made a lil graphic:

it's a long, rectangular frame with a single center cutout for all the ports. I kept it as close to the plastic port inserts as possible.
again, I used superglue to attach the ABS to the G5 aluminum, and ABS cement from the plumbing section of my local hardware store to attach the plugs to the ABS.

thanks, but it will never be better than the real thing, only as good from the outside, but the inside won't touch a real G5 or mac pro. it'll be ghetto when it's done. hackintosh = ghetto mac, but that's the charm.... but, I've kept it looking real from the outside, so I'm happy.
oh, I guess it is better than the real thing, because unlike the 1st gen mac pro owners who can't even upgrade their graphics card, I can actually upgrade anything, at any time.

anyway, don't expect the inside to be a masterpiece, all the effort is going into keeping it real from the outside.

yeah, this thread aint dead... I still see people posting photos..... don't any updates from me for a while, I've got lot's of real-world stuff going on right now.
I am toying with the idea of installing a mac mini in the superdrive bay. It would be on an adhock connection with my mainboard, and it would function as my lil helper for torrents, dvd rips, encoding, etc. I would modify the superdrive hatch to be slot-loading, and I would run a DVI jumper to the rear of the G5, and would use leo screen sharing as well as an internal kvm to control it.

y not if you can make it happen it will do, but crazy foo, a mac mini, and imac and a G5 hahaha, and would make everything fit on the door like the isight and the monitor so if you ever want to stick the regular door on it you can too. nice.

the iMac Pro mod is actually looking quite practical and cost-effective. the iSight will actually be an xbox 360 live cam, and it will be mounted to the drive shelf, not the side door, so that it can be aimed just right while the door is off. the screen will be a 17-inch widescreen 1440x900 8ms LCD that can be had for $150, and it will fit perfectly. I will be using a hanns-g desktop monitor, and stripping it from the casing, as this is the only affordable method. Using a laptop screen would cost more, require more work, and more parts to convert the LVDS to DVI.... not worth it. I think I will get started on this.....

yeah, I've got an Apple 30-inch cinema display on a humanscale m7 arm for my primary display. It's the perfect setup.
the built in screen is mostly novelty, but there are plenty of uses for the built-in display... eh, I'm sure I'll just fill it up with widgets, or play movies on it while I work. I thought that I would make the desktop background a photo of the inside of a real G5 to create an interesting visual. It would look like a window kit with apps running in it..... silly, I know...

haven't mounted the board. the m3.5 screws I got didn't end up fitting the G5 standoffs, so I have set of G5 case screws coming. I just decided to shorten the PSU cables that were bugging me, just started to do that.... but it's time consuming.
