8-core Mac Pro i'd beleive, but an 8-core MacBook Pro? I seriously doubt it.

Get him to show you it, and ask him to open Activity Monitor. If there are 8 cpu graphs, then its 8-core.

I willing to bet that he tricked system profiler into saying 8 core...Its just a few lines of code...Quad core pre release I could possibly belive from a credible person BUT 8 cores in a laptop is not physically possible there is just not enough chip space for 8 cores.
