Dear Readers,

I assembled my Hackintosh with a ASUS P5LD2 Mainboard. The good news: Almost everything worked out of the Box with Jas 10.4.8. Now for the bad news: The onboard Realtek ALC882 Audio Codec produces some very strange ultra low frequency noise. One can't hear it but if connected to an Amplifier it is no problem to render the loudspeakers. Only the Subsonic Filter of the Amplifier can cure the problem (I connected two different Amplifiers to verify; the Amplifier in my Office has no Subsonic Filter so I need another fix). I first thought of some problem with the Driver. Then I booted into Knoppix Ver 5.1. Same Problem. I even went to my Hardware dealer and replaced the Mainboard and also tried another PSU. The Prob remains the same. Has someone discovered similar problems? Is there a Fix probably with a newer Version of the driver?

I have the same card and the same problem. I allso remebered this kind of problem with an old soundcard what i had years ago(soundblaster 16 stm). And it had the same problem. The only solusion for this kind of problem would be some kind of driver update or a bios....

Do you have the same Mainboard or the same Chip? I thought of selling the Mainboard. But then everything else works just fine..... Is there a Soundcard that works with 10.4.8 (not some pro soundcardsoloution > 500 EUR/$)? Any suggestions?

My ALC882 has this too, but only until it's drivers are loaded.
I've always thought it's because of the 3.5mm to RCA converter I use to connect the sound card to my stereo.

Is there any low end sound card working with OS X on Intel??

i think this is something with the current with the power supply. i have the ALC882 before with an older ATx case. and it was making sizzling noise. now, i have a new cause, the the noise is gone.

I also thought about the PSU. But I replaced that too. Repeat: I also exchanged the Mainboard.

I have to repeat this: The effect of that low frequency noise is not heard (at least not by human). It is not very easy to describe it.

I want to try to describe it once more (its not that easy if you can't see it with your own eyes):

-Fire up OS X
-Connect a standard Amp (in my case a Harman Kardon HK6500) to the line out of the mainboard
-now try to change the volume of the Amp - be carefull because in my case I rendered the chassis of my speakers
-the bass speakers come out - like in slow motion - and go back the same way
-be very carefull - I will not pay your speakers

I connect other sources (including mp3 players, computers, tape recorders, cd players, etc) to the same amp and there is no such behavior. So as for my understanding the amp is ok. Strange thing is, if I fire up Knoppix (Linux) the effect is the same so I think its the mobo or the driver.
