Can someone update me on how exactly you get this working, code etc
Thanks!

Edit:
Well, the last part, how do i change information inside a.kext?
Tried macediter, didnt work =/

It does come with mouse-tearing though - is there any fix for that as of today?

Mouse Locator did the trick for me. Works great on my HP NC6000.

Thanks, works brilliantly for my Mobility 9600 (0x4e50) on my T42. I now have "real" QE & CI and hardware acceleration; decoding h.264 now works at real time without frame drops! Thanks for your work.

Regarding botched installs, it's not always necessary to reformat as long as you've backed up your old kexts. Boot with -s, remove the new files (ATI*, Callisto*, AGPGart* and OpenGL.framework), and restore the old ones.

Hey all,

I have a HP NC6000 that i'm trying to get up and running and graphics is one of the outstanding issues.

I want to carry through with this but can't download the file from rapidshare! Has it expired?
Can anyone help me? Does anyone still have the file somewhere?
If someone could e-mail it to me or put it somewhere i can get it that would be AWESOME!

Thanks

It is fairly easy to get the 1600x1200 resolution up and running. Just install the Callisto "ATI_9600_C003_AGP.zip", the trouble is that with it, QE and CI go down the drain. In order to get it back I practically pulled out all the stops. I tried all the other Callisto drivers, I installed Nadid, Catana, Titan - you name it, I tried it - but nothing ever worked.

In the end it was a hint some guy (Sorry, I forgot your nick!) on the IRC channel had told me. He said something along the lines that I'll need the OpenGL Framework and kexts from 10.4.7 in order to make it work, but at that time I had absolutely no idea what it ment.

After learning a lot about OSX and how to install and fix broken drivers, I came back to what he said, got myself a hold of a 10.4.7 image and started to fiddle around with that. The outcome of that is the driver you find linked a few lines below.

As I check lately 9600 is supported with lately framework and drivers at lest with this one from combo 10.4.11 update

On Leopard - had resolution switching working magnificently, but with no GA. Attempted to install this package. No Joy. Didn't work.

Caution!: Leopard did not support GZ compression used in these files. When downloaded Leopard actually removed the gz suffix!

Has anyone had success using this method with Leopard? I have have been using kexts from 10.4.* versions for a number of things with great success. Unfortunately, I used the cowboy approach with this one and installed everthing manually in one session. Disk utility refused to work, and It crashed the whole system.

I will try again - first installing Callisto V 3.0 (Fixed) - works like a charm - and add kext modules one or two at a time to insure they are working, or at least doing no harm. I may also try modifying existing Leopard kexts with the same changes made by Largo.

If anyone has had experience using these files with Leopard, I would appreciate your advice/input.

Sooo close. Everything works but hardware graphics acceleration!

@schmiede: I haven't made any trials with Leopard (hackintosh) yet. I thought I'd wait until there is an somewhat convenient way to install Leopard on my (HP) Notebook, so far whatever I read about sounded pretty tricky.

I got Leopard on my iMac here and I don't know what you're talking about. Sure Leopard supports gz compression. I just downloaded and extracted my file and everything is just fine. Just extract that file using TAR in the Terminal/X11.

<3 than you dude, my amilo m1425 with radeon 9600 mobility works great! (mouse tearing comes, but that is easy to fix).
One problem i have faced, no dual-screen. I have external 19" monitor that i would like to use with laptop screen. Is this possible, anyone know howto? (did search from forums, didnt find information about 9600 mobility duals...)
thanks smile.gif

Tried it in Leopard, Leopard did not like it at all. Restored the orig files, Leopard didn't like those either, back to reinstall x.x
eXcalibUr88
This method includes opengl.frameworks. I wonder if leopard uses such a folder.
largo
I see you people are heavily working with Leopard.

At home I got an iMac, so no need for the hackintosh trickery, but I am planning to upgrade my hackintosh notebook (NC6000/NW8000). Sadly I don't know if the hackintosh releases are in an too early state to come up with anything yet. Is there any point in installing one of those images on a Notebook yet? Does that work in any way? Are there any people out there that installed the Leo/Hackintosh images in a Compaq/HP notebook? Maybe even an NC**** series?

If that does work in some way, I might look into the driver issues with Leopard and see if I can get them to work.

See, that is what I thought. Can you tell me exactly what doesn't work and what does work? Which release did you try? Is there a discussion thread about this (specific notebook) anywhere? This is a bit off-topic I guess.

I still haven't been able to find a thing about this video card in Leopard and it is killing me

largo, i dont have an nc series laptop but i thought my sse2 laptop will not be able to handle leopard. tried brazilmac and toh and it wont even boot the dvd.. only the kalyway resolved it.. i think you should try it. it should work for you.. just my two cents.

My Laptop is very similar: Acer Travelmate 292LMi, Kalyway will probably install on it without problems.
I have experienced Tiger without QE and CI on my 9700 AGP Mobility and now that I have everything working - included in an Arconis backup - I am thinking about giving 10.5.1 a try.

My 10.4.9 JaS based installation works great: I have a callisto and a patched 9700GA combination of kexts that does everything: OpenGL, CI/QE and resolution switching. This might be a good starting point to see if I can get Kalyway 10.5.1 working with 9700 Radeon Mobility ((id 0x4e50; vendor 0x1002; rev 0x0000))

Success rates with the 9700 AGP Radeon Mobility on 10.5.1 are still vague. Which files are needed and what works?

spikeh
The drivers are working great and I have hardware acceleration, however I cannot change the resolution when attaching an external monitor via the VGA out or the DVI out on a dock. Does anyone else experience this, or have any solutions?

Err, well, I did it , too.
10.4.11 + 8.9.1 Universal ToH kernel
works even after 2007-009 security update!

I already had CE/CI enabled after installation, but Largo's ATI driver update works OK, too.

Works almost perfectly on Radeon Mobility 9700 on Packard Bell Easynote R8720.

Still get mouse artefacts quite often, but it is a minor annoyance.

Installed using JaS 10.4.8 AMD Intel SSE2 SSE3 Clean install.

Thanks alot!

I tried this on my Kalyway 10.5.1 install and it locked up the system. No Kernel panic's just every 10 seconds or so it generate a .crash report and it would do it until I stopped it (had it going for 30 minutes at one point).

Attempted to delete the kexts starting with ATI* and Cal*, same thing occured even when trying to boot into safe mode.

I reloaded my laptop with JaS 10.4.8 AMD Intel SSE2 SSE3, install worked perfectly. QE / CI enabled, very very minimal tearing. Only problem with that version of the install is that even with QE / CI, it couldn't play DVD movies. It would goto a solid yellow screen.

EDIT: I am using a HP NC6000 laptop.

This worked for me. 9800 Mobility 256MB on a Dell XPS gen 1 laptop. I am running 10.4.9.

Thanks!

ok, got QE/CI enabled with Tiger 10.9 using your Driver + kovergpatch 9700 v0.2

Mobility X300 PCIe.

but when i move windows, or scroll in them the graphics in them turn to scratch. will try another callisto, maybe that'll help.

thx

HI,

I had my old laptop working fine with 10.4.8 and 9600 with QE and CI enabled, thanksto Largo's solution.

Now I installed Leopard -a new intaller named Leo4all which is exelent, by the way-Everything works and even better but this solution do not work anymore, at least as it is. It's a shame because the screen is 1280x800 an the video I get is 1024x768 so I see things out of shape.

Largo, I encourage you to try the Leo4all intaller, is really good, even on difficult laptops like mine (see signature).

cheers

Ric

Did you get anywhere with getting QE and CI working on the ATI x300? How do I get it running with this driver?

Thank you largo!
This also works for my ATI x300 with the JaS 10.4.8 AMD Intel SSE2 SSE3!
Now the System Profiler show Quartz Extreme and Core Image are supported. The DVD Player starts, but the Video doesn't run smooth... Any ideas?

Hi, I too installed these drivers on an Asus M6800N with ATI Radeon mobility 9600, 64Mb. It seems to be working but when I scroll any window, or move it around the screen, the image inside the window gets all messed up. I have to minimize/maximize to get it all back. Is this what you guys call mouse tearing? Any solution for this?
Thanks! Great job!

I got this problem, too. You can partially resolve it by pressing F9 two times, but this does only work for windows that are already open.
Is there still no 'real' solution to this problem? Apart from this, everything is working fine with the driver (IBM T42, i855PM chipset, Radeon 9600 mobility 64MB).

Guys, please do me a favour and read through this whole thread. There is a solution for the "Mouse Tearing" in this thread and it only has 5 (!) pages. I am sure you'll manage to find it if you take another look...

Hi guys, any new dev in terms of getting this going on Leopard? My card is being recognised as AGP (with AGPGart) but no QE/CI

Here is my stuff:

ASUS W1NA
1.8Ghz SSE2
ATI Mobility Radeon 9600/9700 M10/M11 (0x4e50)

Kalyway 10.5.1 [with mbr + SSE2]
Callisto b003
AGPGart
eXcalibUr88
have not heard of any solution so far for this card (0x4e50). This is the only thing left not working on my laptop. vid card is kind of old but it is still capable of runnung qe and ci..

EDIT: I am using a HP NC6000 laptop.

in order to fix that all you need is a different 'AppleSMBIOS.kext'. Took me a while to figure out too. Search the forum, they're there.

On a different note - I will try my best to get my hands on a Kalyway Leopard disc and see if I can do anything about the drivers. I have an NC6000 too, which is SSE2 and it seems like there are problems with such machines. I am not very 'into' the Leopard-Hackintosh happenings, so I really need to catch up on it. Can't be that complicated - can it?

I'll keep you updated.

ricren
Largo,

I installed Leo4all on my AMD laptop and worked at first try. Only thing missing is 9600 support, of course. I hope yo cuod thake a look at that.

cheers

Ric

largo
Oh well, I tried booting the Leopard 10.5.2 Disc, but all I get is a Kernel Panic before I even reach the first installation screen.

It seems to detect one of my ethernet-cards wrong and that's what brings it down.  sad.gif

I'll see what I can do, if I can find different kernels and try to play around with the boot options.

Booting in safe mode didn't help at all.
ricren
What about disabling momentarly the ethernet card from the bios?

leopard is so much nice than Tigerm, you will not regret to invest some time to make it work. You'll see.

I believe you. Today I tried the Leo4all release, didn't work  - at all. The dvd booted and then crashed after 10 seconds, I am not even able to ready why.

And yes your approach to disable the Ethernet-Card is a good one and I'd have done that if my Notebook would allow me to just 'disable' hardware. I can disable a few things, but I can't disable my network adapter - so that's not gonna work.

I'll continue to see what I can do about that...

karabatov
Tried to get this working on Kalyway 10.5.2... Got a Radeon M10 with ID 4e50.

Everything is quite simple: all the kexts work just fine with no further modifications, and the problem stated above (panics every 10 seconds) is caused by the OpenGL.framework which is a binary for 10.4.8 but not 10.5.*.

The way to solve the issue is just not to copy OpenGL.framework. The simpler way is to run the script as usual, and the do the following:
CODE
cp -r /BackUP/OpenGL.framework /System/Library/Frameworks/

Congratulations, now you have res switching etc but without QE/CI support. But it's better than nothing =)

If I could find out exactly what modifications were made to OpenGL.framework, I would try to replay them for the Leopard version, so we could have a perfectly operational driver again happy.gif
largo
It is the original Framework from the 10.4.7 OSX Release - I didn't do any changes to it. Sorry that is as much as I can help you at this point.
karabatov
Thanks anyway largo, it clears up the point anyway =) Unfortunately this framework doesn't work on Leo(

One more problem that I have is the following: I'm presently booting into safe mode (-x) in order for my LCD to work at proper resolution (1400x1050). When I try to boot up normally, I can set this resolution OK, but when I try to move any window, the contents of it is scrambled into stripes as on a misconfigured TV.

I would be content with safe mode but unfortunately soundcard doesn't work in it %)
xeongx
I need a way to get this QE working on Leopard,
or a way patch my JaS 10.4.8 ISO with the modified AppleVIAATA.kext files from Leo4Allv3, becuase leo4all is the only one that recognizes my hard drive and lets me install.
I have that ISO, how can I patch it with the kext?

Does the above have "new" typos?

Terminal did not like it. I tried omitting the "BR" tags, and tried (3rd attempt) a manual d & d, that didn't work either.

Try the JaS 10.4.8, it is the easiest to install on the NC6000, a couple of patches give you "Airport", and power management (somewhat).

This ATI fix probably works on the nc6000, ....but, I think the instructions in post #1 have been rendered iffy after edits introduced some typos and ambiguities.

This tutorial's author has suggested that he may write a "how to" for 10.4.10/nc6000 in the future, ...until then, the JaS 10.4.8, plus the Atheros fix are probably your best bet.
