Full Version: Restart hangs

Hi guys,

Hope you can help me with this one since it's the only issue with my OSX86 that I would like to see fixed.
Shutdown works but when I try to restart it quits OSX86 but hangs at black screen before the BIOS post.
See my below spec for details on hardware.
I noticed others with the same mobo don't suffer from this so I'm thinking it's cause of the Vista Bootloader.
I do not have Vista installed (only 2x XP and OSX86) but it's so easy with EasyBCD and the Vista Bootloader to add an OSX86 entry and that's why I'm still using it.
I'm affraid to mess my install up with the fix on wiki but if you guys tell me its all good I'll try it anyway.

Thx in advance

I just tried the patch from Mofo-x but after applying the PC would only restart again after booting up OSX so that's a no go for me.

Any ideas?

i have same problem really, i get a message say something like...

Continuing
MACH_REBOOT
done

but no actual reboot
loonymonkey
I have the same problem.

Anyone find a fix yet?

Woops, if mods would be kind enough to merge the two restart threads.

Like I said on the other thread, still no luck here. Maybe it's because we use multiboot?

I hope someone can fix this small but anoying issue.

Hey Guys... I have the same problem. Shutdown works fine but restart seems to just leave my computer running with my monitor turned off. Now I noticed that before when I had USB keyboard and mouse support disabled in my BIOS both Restart and Shutdown worked perfectly, so maybe that will help some of you. But since I am dual booting OSX and Vista I need to have my USB devices enabled in my BIOS or else I can't use Vista. Garh!... I hope somebody finds a solution to this soon. Oh well... cheers!

Oh... I didn't notice before, but I'm using the Tubgirl iso and not the Jas... probably doesn't make much of a difference as I'm assuming its the same issue... oh well

try booting with platform=ACPI as a startup option and then when it boots, restart it and see what happens.

Hi,
I have the same problem...
I installed only OSX so I'm not using a bootloader and I just tried to use the option platform=ACPI on boot
Restart for me works fine with 10.4.6 and 10.4.7 after Kernel patch (Hex editor)

Hey guys... Um.... I tried this and it wouldn't work... here's a look at my com.apple.boot.plist file:

<key>Kernel</key>
<string>mach_kernel</string>
<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string>-legacy</string>
<string>platform=ACPI</string> <----------------***
<key>Boot Graphics</key>
<string>Yes</string>
<key>Timeout</key>
<string>4</string>

I'm assuming that's correct. Anyways... I still can't get my system to reboot, it simple shuts down OS X and then turns my monitor off, leaving the the computer still running. Garh!... any help is appreciated!
