Full Version: Installed OSX on my Vaio UX180P but...

Well I'm great at getting Windows onto a Mac but now that I have a new non Apple toy I'm refreshing myself on the world of OSX on a Windows PC.

The game this week though is my new Sony UX180P. I installed OSX 10.4.8 just fine on a small partition but now I'm hitting some issues and search isn't really helping out on the primary issue. The UX series has an oddball 1024x600 Screen Resolution. Only problem is all I can get to display is 800x600. I have a GMA 945 Graphics card on this thing and both CI and QE are shown as supported. I've also manually edited the com.apple.Boot.plist file to the resolution but to no effect. Strangely when the OS initially loads to the blank blue screen it covers the whole screen for an instant and then shoves itself over to the left side of the screen (it doesn't center). I dunno if anyone can help but I figured I'd throw this out incase anyone HAS fixed this issue before.

Oh and yes the touchscreen works in OSX but its calibration is way off because it's calibrated for the proper res screen in windows.

Do you have AppleIntelFramebuffer.kext (I think that's the name) loaded? If you don't have it, it's in one of the JaS GMA support packages, use pacifist to install that one kext. You need it for resolution switching. If you can switch resolutions in System Preferences, but it won't detect the correct one you can try SwitchResX to specify a custom one.

Thanks a million. I didn't think of using SwitchRes X and it worked like a charm. Now I just need to get some of the minor stuff going like the Memory Stick reader and sound. Since this sucker has the Intel Pro Wireless I'm gonna try to get some kind of networking done via bluetooth instead (which worked right off the bat) so I can at least use the internet on this thing while in OSX at home.

Well no luck on the sound for some reason. I've been messing with the AppleHDA patcher and the manual edits in this thread http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...2&hl=ALC262 but alas no go. The UX180P has the exact same sound card down to the same Device and Vendor IDs but no audio out of either. I wonder if these solutions just don't agree with the final version of 10.4.8 jas released.

Also the touch screen works but its calibration if off the further you get from the center. I'm not holding my breath on this one though since OSX will prolly never support this kind of touchscreen.

Here's a pic of how it looks in the right res

Not exactly sure what wireless card that the Vaio UX180P has in it, but you said it was an Intel Wireless card, and someone on the forums here ported the Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG drivers from Linux to Mac so you might want to try those if they fit the description of your wireless card.

Good luck, it looks pretty good on there.

Unfortunately mine uses the 3945abg
carterj
you can go to that thread all the same... also 3945 is "supported".
http://code.google.com/p/iwidarwin/ is the official page

you can only connect to open networks at this time... you may want to get an usb wlan stick while waiting for that brave people coding to get more features into the driver in order to render it more usable.

go to the x86 wikis to find out the usb wlan thingies supported.

Hey just as a heads up I did a reinstall and only selected the intel 950 graphics driver and I got full res right off the bat with no extra software. I accidentally installed both the 950 and 910 drivers last time which caused the res issues.
