Full Version: Buying "widescreen" LCD

soon im planning to ditch my old monitor that takes up half my desk for one of those LCD things. I also want to get the kind that are like widescreen or whatever (for more desktop space and stuff)

my concern is that I also play video games on my computer from time to time. And not all games support widescreen monitors, my friend who has a widescreen says if the game doesn't support widescreen resolutions the screen will be stretched (resulting in everyone in the game getting fatter than usual).

is there like a driver or plugin or something that people use to prevent this (keep the game from stretching out of proportion when it isn't desired). The only time the widescreen thing will work to my advantage is when im actually doing work and have lot's of stuff open.

btw my card is a radeon pci-expression if that matters

It is the fault of the game, not the OS. Configurations for the games should work in OS X, since they're usually done in yourgame.ini or in the game console (the CLI from the tilde button).

Keep in mind that widescreen means the monitor is wide and short. You may not get "more" desktop space, you'd have to do the actual calculations.
