I have read and read and read. Tried many things, and done many re-installs.

I have an ASUS P5LD2-VM with Realtek ALC 882 for sound built in.

I simply cannot get sound out. Or a sound card recognized.

I have Jas 10.4.8 AMD/Intel with the most recent patch applied. I chose the Intel kernel on boot and not the Azallia drivers. I chose no other options on install customization.

I downloaded and installed the .4B version of of the ALC882 package and went though an install of that. Then I enabled the onboard sound ( BIOS disabled ) and go to my mac information and it still shows no audio device.

I would really appreciate some help at this point. The driver states that is is tested on this motherboard. Am I doing something wrong?

Did you try a set of external speakers ? System profiler has always shown my setup as having no audio device . I was shocked when I found that plugging in speakers worked just fine! Internal case speaker if present doesn't work .
