For ppl in europe and asia (who are pissed they cant get an iPhone even though they have the money)
So weve heard the iPhone wont be available in europe or asia for quite some time, but steve said it was gsm and quad band so... if we ship one here and then change the SIM it would work. If cingular has locked the phone a firmware crack should allow us to use it with a different SIM.

Any one have any ideas

I think it will be released without a contract in Europe. Cingular doesn't operate in many areas in Europe, if at all.

Do they have partnership with any of the following UK companies - T-Mobile / Orange / Vodafone/ Virgin Mobile/ Three or Tescp Mobile<Exclude that

Edit
Cause if they do then you should be able to use the sim of the partnership company of ciongular in an apple phone

such nerds, you guys are, why the hell not? sim card is a sim card, you can swap them anytime as long as the phone is unlocked, why couldnt someone unlock the phone? Its been done to every other phone that has a sim card i this. but to complicate things and give this thread more action i will say

no it wont work or happen, you just have to wait.

i dont think it was a stupid question, i two want to know if we can take it over here or if there will be a cingular software lock which is possible, and for that matter A TWO YEAR CONTRACT OMFG, i didnt even know two year contracts exist its absurd, how much would that cost PM?

Welcome to phones in America. Almost everything is a two-year contract.

Also, I bet it won't be released off-contract. My guess is without a contract the phone costs about $800. Very expensive.

i bet they release it off contract over here (UK) because (in my experience) not that many people go for a contract and $800 for an amazing phone (£411) is not that bad for the swort of thing i buy, if it comes out over here for that ill buy it in a second as will many people i know

mmmhhh, I will pay the phone, let my brother use the SIM with his phone there and I use it with my SIM here sorcerer.gif

It's born dead for europe & asia without utms and also almost no one here has a contract with a telco. Usa is living in the stonehenge regarding the cellular market tongue.gif

Yeah, I know sad.gif , But I heard someone that said his SE W850 with UTMS is working here, I hope Telcel (one of the local companies) is installing this net.

Apple is working on UMTS chip integration in the iphone, is in the official roadmap.

hmmm utms... i had a few phones with umts but i can't say i really need it. there are so many open wireless networks here in germany... well, lets just see what other versions of the iphone will appear.

since its apple we are talking about, who says it has a sim card, or better yet, who says it wwill be a easy swap smile.gif
their system will probobly be totaly diferrent from the curent ones you can find in mobile phones, but someone will probobly be able to tackel it! (arent their hackintoches out there running osx on "illegal" hardware?) wink.gif

I hear that Apple may or may not be in dispute with another company over the name 'iPhone'. I have a suggestion, see what you think. 'iLeachAllTheMoneyFromYourPockets'. Why would an Apple media player look like a rip off of Windows Media Player 11? Why would I watch a movie on something with a distracting silver frame that catches the eye of the mugger four seats down from me on the underground? Five years ahead of the competition? A Sony would come with a games console built in, longer battery life, and a higher resolution camera on which, in this yourtube age, would allow you to post and share your work and Yellowdog Linux would come as standard. A two year contract! Not here in Scotland, no sir.

Did I mention that I want to be the first person in Edinburgh to own one! You'll know me when you see me, I'll be the really thin looking guy who had to give up eating in order to run it. Innovative would be a service provider who doesn't rob you blind.
