Supaman
hi,

i try to run OSX on my asus a6va laptop, which is equipped with a ati radeon x700 and a 15,4" wide-screen display with 1280x800

i made native osx installation using 10.4.6 JaS & dual boot with windows using chain0 works fine. screen resolution is only 1024x768.

since two days i try to raise the screen resolution, until now no success :-(

i tried
http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...llisto&st=0 and
http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...amp;hl=callisto - callisto/koverg combined script, but more user friendly.

worst result: scrambled screen with koverg & callisto8
neutral result: koverg & calisto3 + callisto6 - no change, resulution not changeable over 1024x768
correct resolution, but with bad errors: koverg & callisto5 - resolution is 1280x800 with not acceptable flickering

some ideas to get a 1280x800 resolution?

supa

I've done exactly what phoenix3200 wrote. Step-by-step. Used "0xED" instead of "HexEdit". Used Callisto b006. After Callisto installation - reboot and choose proper resolution in "System Preferences" -> "Display".

thx for your fast answer kovpas.

my device id is 5653 too. i have done exact the same as described in the link you have posted - and got the same result as before.
(the changes described in the posting are *exakt* the same as the script version does. i have verified every step, looked into the modified files etc)

i can change the resolution to 1280x800, but the screen is slightly flickering / flickering errors like a false refresh on crt-monitor.

parameters have been: callisto006 + koverg patch

any more ideas ?

regards,

supa

Some of x700 5653 cards do not work correctly and will never be.
If you have card that is
Device: 0x5653 (M26), SubSystem: 0xFF02
that is exactly the card I've got in my laptop. This card will never let you get qe/ci and change resolution to other than 1024x768

I got the same card and the problem.
In my ASUS A6Va notebook, the other drivers are all OK, except the X700 Mobility card. No right resolution without slightly flickering. Seems someone have sovle the problem with the X700M card, which only have the 64M card memory instead of 128M.
I have try every steps in this forum to sovle this problem, and nerver get the right way:-(
When and who can help me?
Perhaps,waiting for long time.......

Hi kovpas,

I too have an ATI Radeon Mobility X700 with 128MB of Ram. I've read all the threads on this forum and have tried the various methods but still have a lot of horizontal flickering.

I read that you had got it working, but later discovered that your card is the 64MB version. It appears the problem lies with the 128MB version of the card. Do you or anyone else have any success stories or ideas with the X700 128MB card at 1280x800x32 resolution?

I'm using JaS 10.4.7 (soon to patch to 10.4.8), with Callisto 006 and Koverg patch.

All my other hardware with the exception of the Intel Wireless 2200BG is working fine. I have an HP dv4291EA laptop.

Kindest regards to all,

vertical flickering errors with callisto 3 and 8 (1280x800).

Could it be possible to have QE and CI enabled with 1024x768 (Callisto3)?

thanks.

If I take a snapshot (screen capture) of my desktop the png file does not have flickering errors!

so what could it be?
rumpel0815
no new development here? Tried the step by step tutorial, too but now i cannot boot anymore
geoRG77
I read all about X700 on this beatiful forum, but I cannot use my laptop (Asus M6Va) with ATI Mobility Radeon X700 (device ID: 0x5652) on Hackintosh  thumbsdown_anim.gif

Final solution with flickering:
1. Replace all ATI*.kexts, AppleIntegratedFramebuffer.kext, IONDRVSupport.kext and OpenGL.framework from original 10.4.5 Intel Update using Pacifist.
(if you dont make this you get "strange geometric colors" after boot)
2. Install Koverg patch 0.2 (QE, CI is working/changing screen resolution not)
3. Install Koverg - Callisto - Framebuffer All-in-one
QUOTE
sudo ./builddoe.sh 56 52   #Replace 56 52 with your device ID
sudo ./doe.sh cal6 0x0x0 1 1  #Callisto 6/no resolution into com.boot.apple.plist/Patched Koverg driver/CallistoFB on
4. Repair ATIRadeon9700.kext (because the second script add only 0x56 instead of 0x56521002) #Add your device ID!
5. Restart

After restart you get full QE/CI support and you can set 1280x800 resoution, but the screen is flickering (anyone say horizontal lines bug)

I think its due to wrong display (59Hz?) frequency - I saw this in Windows after wake up from hibernation sometimes too but changing resolution correct it. Have everyone any solution or idea how to fix it? Many thanks and sorry for my bad English.
JohnPopes
tried diabolik's mobility.kext didnt work. how do you do the first step??
with all this maybe we should start an official thread dedicated to ATI Mobility x700 card only..
geoRG77
My first step is replacing all kexts... it's simple. We can start ATI x700 Mobility thread, but solution for screen flickering isn't.

I have an ASUS A6VA and the same problem. hope somebody can help me...
JohnPopes
well i can get CI an QE with the koverg patch no problems.
i tried callisto 008 and 006 and if i change resolution the lcd becomes all black, sometimes i can see the bar on top. if i change to 16 bit its even worst... if i change the frequency to 70Hz it's f*cked up again.. damn.
all i wanted was 1280x800 resolution.. i got my cmputer specs on the sig. anyone had sucess on this configuration?

no progress here?? i've got myself the flickers too...

i want 1280x800 screen-res!! sad.gif
i really tried everything but nothing worked out, please help me/us!

messing around with natit now, maybe there is hope there...

any comments appreciated.
Sedna
Just a thought, and you might as well have played with this, but you probably have to edit the HEX values according to your monitor's EDID.
rumpel0815
Yes nice idea, but i had no luck with entering my edid values from my internal display. wallbash.gif
This really sucks soooo bad. wallbash.gif
Why are there drivers for all the f***ed up low-end cards (ok now this card is low-end,too blush.gif ) like x300 but none for the x700 mobility!? Although its the built in in some Mac Products? dry.gif

And why is there no one that can help us? And why am i here exactly? And why is the earth round? And...ok forget it! biggrin.gif

Waiting for further developments and hopig the best for our graphics card.
XNT
I agree with you rumpel its pretty strange we can't seem to get this baby going. sad.gif
yarrix
natit experiments yielded failure. sad.gif did a fresh install.

maybe i'm doing something wrong. I went back to the opengl framework from 10.4.7, and tried cal6, now i've got QE+CI, and extra resolutions in preferences (before it was only 1024x768, now theres 800x600 and 640x480) , but not the one I want (1280x800). mouse tearing is there too in all its glory. Cal6 gave the extra resolutions only when I kicked back to the 10.4.7 opengl framework, with the framework that comes with Jas 10.4.8 there was only 1024x768.

My acer aspire 5020 shows an atom bios during the darwin boot loader. ?video does not show the lcd's native resolution of 1280x800 in the vesa modes supported. somehow i'm thinking that it has something obviously to do with that.

isn't there an adept guru willing to give this a shot?? i'm sure there are so many of us with this setup that could benefit.

my specs:

acer aspire 5020 amd turion 1.8
1gb ram, 80gb ide hdd, ati x700 128mb pcie

i managed to get the EDID of the LCD of the laptop, with some mac utility, i forget now could be switchres (EDIT: indeed, it was) or something like that. i'm posting it in case it might help anyone. i do remember reading that mobility series apparently don't use the edid, and instead use the bios or something along those lines, so I haven't yet messed around with EDID myself.

Any help, anyone??

hi folks, back after some serious messing around with EDID hex strings.

seems that switchresx on osx and moninfo on windows report different strings for the same lcd screen on my acer aspire. i'm not so sure which is the right one. in any case, using plisteditpro, i tried both differing readings and inserted into the appropriate sections (I hope) of the Info.plist file that comes with the different Callistos avail on this board (cal003, cal006, cal008). none worked. sad.gif

however, i've made some interesting observations; almost all reboots with different callisto versions yielded garbage characters just after when callisto is loaded and detects the x700, and then gets the EDID info. the card info seems correct, however the EDID info, which I suppose should have some resemblance to what is reported in either switchresx, or moninfo is not there, instead i've grabage characters, of a weird charset, and after that either I get a black screen after a short flash of the desktop at I think at 1024x768, where the osx is running (as I can hit power button and enter and it will gracefully shutdown). I'm quite sure that there is a way to get this to work; just gotta make sure to have the right info in the right places.

Anyone experienced with this stuff, possibly with a similar ATI card, lend a hand please? would be truly appreciated..
LGB
I'd like to help, 1024x768 on a 16:10 LCD is driving me nuts!

I've got an Asus A6Va, ATI x700 device ID = 0x5653
Callisto 8 won't even boot. Get a screen 'You have to turn off the computer' but with lines and stuff... Unreadeble (I recognize it from the background pic).

Callisto 5 and 6 boot, I can choose 1280x800 but they got lines in all resolutions.

Callisto 3 boots, can change but not higher than 1024x768, no lines.

Adding the device ID to ATIRadeon9700.kext using Koverg's method gives me QE and CI.

The lines indeed look like a Vsync error. So I guess it has to do with the EDID.

Yarrix: I'd like to have a look, if only I'd know how to see those garbage characters? Do you verbose boot or something?
If I kextload the Callisto driver I don't get that much information so I suppose you'll neither do by looking at the dmesg?

Gimme a hint

First hello LGB, as this was your first post here!
And now let's get it on! Let's fix this piece o' crap!

Development:
EDID doesn't work had to reinstall OS x for second time today. That pisses me off!
Either display was black all the time or I had funny color fractals on the display.

Well, maybe it helps to write down our DISPLAY/EDID specs here (copy pasted from my MacVidia - ATIEFI post):

But I read that changing EDID on Mobility Radeon dont workt :-( I look in Cal6 and there isnt section for EDID, only in Cal8(dont boot). Yes, the problem must be in wrong vsync freq. I wrote to Diabolik, but he hasnt reply for 3 weeks :-/ and Omni terminate Callisto development.
LGB
Well I just found something interresting.

Like I said before Callisto 5 and 6 gave those stripes also in 1024x768. Well I played around with SwitchResX a bit, and after selecting 1280x1024@60 (resolution my monitor doesn't support) and a reboot I get 1024x768 without those stripes. Switching to 1280x800 still gives me stripes, switching back and I got them already...
But it looks like SwitchResX changes something which affects the sync in a positif way.

Could someone confirm this?

*** Edit ***
Well I figured it had more to do with the reboot after changing to 1024x768...

hi folks again,

this time some new informations:

i think callisto has nothing to do with the QE CI stuff. verify this by taking a fresh install of Jas 10.4.8 SSE2 SSE3, or any later. after install you'll get to the desktop at 1024x768 default res. then go into /System/Library/Extensions/ATIRadeon9700.kext/Contents/Info.plist.

Edit this file (sudo nano Info.plist) and insert your id (0x56531002). i'm pretty sure you can remove all of the other stuff in there, but almost everyone is changing the 0x5b601002 string with their own. then go into MacOS (same dir), and hexedit ATIRadeon9700 (I use 0xed), the idea is to replace occurences of the dev id's in the plist with that of your own. so, indeed, if you changed 0x5b601002 string (look for 3d605b0000 - hex, not text), then look for that and replace with your string (5653, or more precisely 3d53560000). be careful though and don't mess up the order. make sure perms (755) and ownership is correct (root:wheel), delete the /System/Library/Extensions.* folders, and reboot.

when I do this, I get QE&CI, and mouse tearing (or whatever you wanna call it, artifacting of some sort), and a plain 1024x768 default resolution, with no other options available in the preferences.

i've been looking at several natit implementations i picked up from all over the place. Natit file has *no* mention of x700 series in it. so the natit_1.0 package, although containing references to later x1xxx series ati cards, seems as said to be only supporting nvidia cards.

Diabolik made a mobility.kext which from what I can tell is also based on natit, and that too does not have any mention of cards below the ati1xxx series. maybe we need to ask him about all of this stuff. who know maybe he can lend a hand. his mobility package when installed, reports something like 'card not found in registry'. seems to me that if he were to add the id's of our damned device 5653 in there in the appropriate way (and not just by lameass hexediting which is all i'm good for), we might just finally have a solution.

any thoughts?

LGB: your boot log shows that 1280x800 is detected through callisto from what I can tell, which is further than i've been able to go. I get garbage, plus xres=1, yres=1, or xres=some big number, yres=some big number, depending on what EDID string i used. none have provided proper info yet.

We can continue to play around with Callisto, or we can beg some of these gurus in the know to lend us a hand... I think the second option is more humble and most probably much faster.

Rumpel, what did you use to get that EDID info? oops, sorry, just saw that you mention another post for the source.. looking there now.
rumpel0815
I basically used PHOENIX EDID DESIGNER for extracting my EDID. It's a really nice app for windows.

Maybe this'll help, because i didn't wrote it down with wich app i read out my EDID in the MacVidia Board.

yarrix: You are right - Callisto is only framebuffer which add support for changing screen resolution and refresh rate. QE & CI is provided by build-in Apple ATI driver.

For me, as I write above (in my post with screen), is QE & CI working, but I need still widescreen support and with Callisto l got flickering :-(

LGB: after Callisto 5/6 install and restart I got 1024x768 without screen flickering, but when l first switch resolution then flickering was anywhere.

We must find solution for this! ;-)
LGB
Well I read Mobility cards get their EDID info from the ROM, but since this mechanism doesn't seem to work, maybe we have to hack those drivers to not check for EDID anymore. Gonna look at it tonight.

Still no luck thumbsdown_anim.gif

Downloaded Xcode and used Plist Edit to add the EDID code in Callisto... Changed MONITOR_TYPE,EDID to LVDS,EDID (seems the most logical to me but I don't know if LVDS is recognized as a keyword)...

No effects...

Jup I know, LVDS,NONE the LCD IS LVDS. Just not sure if the driver recognizes it.

To convert, take Plist Edittor (comes with Xcode, 900MB download) or maybe PlistEdit Pro. Browse to the string. Copy the EDID without the adresses. Start with a < and end with a >. Change MONITOR_TYPE to the correct string (I know CRT is an option, so probably LVDS is too).

Good luck.

Hi everyone,

I have the same card X700 dev id 6563, I am able to change resolution using Callisto 6 , I dont know if its relavent or not but I get a lot of different resolutions showing up in the displays preferences pane and the highest I can get is 1600 by 1080, this is probably just due to my monitor though.
At every resolution I get the horizontal lines flicker that everone else has,
One thing though is that I would get the same kind of lines in Windows and Linux (using the ATI bin drivers) at random intervals (every second week or so) how I got rid of them was by changing resolution and changing back again or in the Linux case by restarting the X server.
I was unable to get QE working at all, this was probably due to my error though, when I was done the menu under the apple logo was offset so as to be mostly unreadable in finder.
Hope someone figures it out
Cheers

How about the Mobility x700 with 64mb? Does it work at 1280x1024 at native resolution with QE and CI?

Probably... This problem seems to be related to model 0x5653 + the LCD found in Asus A6Va...
