I am happy for you that you got it to work. Also nice that you put the modified kexts up.

Still I must also be possible to get the DVI port going. Maybe you can get this with a new release of the Natit Uni installer.

I am also curious what kext beside the ATIRadeonX1000.kext is exactly load on you system. Meaning which driver in ATINDRV.kext, Alopias or Sphyrna is compatible with the X1950 XT.

well I'v tried several times with natitinstalleruni thing with no luck... I used the x1000 kexts from the x1000installer thing not the ones from 10.4.8. I did not touch atindrv at all. I just went into info plist of x1000.kext and swaped 7240 id for 7244 (under X1900 series) then went to x1000ga plugin kext and swapped 72c1 twice for 7244 and rebooted with only dvi hooked and monitor sez dvi no signal, try on other port and still dvi no sig. then do dvi vga adapt on left port and boots with terrable gamma and 1024x768 but qe and ci are supported then boot dvi ta vga on right port and boots instantly at 1280x720@60 with beautiful gamma! all resez my lcd can do are present. qe/ci/rotation! when i boot with -v (verbose) i don't see the x1000 booting and certainly don't see anything related to sypholis and alopolis lol lol. Allz I know is its the fastest, funnest, stablest computer I'v ever had, Iv forgoten about Windex...*Windows sry, their 1 in the same lol. My mac plays HD x264 movies perfect no skip! Ilife all works perfect, logic express workin great, ripples in dashboard. I'm not gunna get greedy and mess around anymore, if anyone gets dvi goin, cool but I'm overly satisfied, its 10 times faster and 10 times more stable than when I tried it with an x1600. Mac has never told me my pc *mac isn't strong enough to run a certain app. Well im gunna install motion 2 n apurture soon and Ill report the results.

Have you tried the boris installer, thats how I got my x1600 pro (asus) to work.
go here: http://www.necnet.de/krass.man/Installers/...00_3.5.mpkg.zip unzip it and run the .mpkg file and reboot, its pretty self guiding, Id recomend a fresh install of osx b4 or remove any mods youve made,

Also, did your card work b4 u installed 10.4.8 amd? this is the version i'm using and im not having any probs,

Yeah i do remember having full resolution options once (I think 10.4.7 or 10.4.6 I still have 10.4.7 dvd so could confirm if needed....) without blur, how would i go about getting the ID for you???

I have 10.4.7 JAS AMD/Intel, 10.4.8 AMD SSE3 Combo Update, 10.4.8 AMD TEST and current installation is a clean 10.4.8 AMD FINAL install

I'm more than happy and willing to test out any drivers although i will confess i don't really understand all the terminal commands etc still a n00bie with macs and linux however with direction we all learn in the end

I didn't thoroughly read your problem descriptions, but the BLUR really catch me.
In my experience, blur will occur if we use bad quality (cheap one) vga splitter (one monitor for two PC). Do you use it??

ok i have full support after 10.4.7 JAS DVD

I still have full support if i update using 1.4.8 AMD SSE3 Combo Update from a few months ago.

That installer uses the Boris method i think, So i copied all the kexts starting with ATI and zipped them up (i have them on my memory stick)

Formatted, installed 10.4.8 AMD FINAL (back to 1024x768 and no qe/ci obviously) tried what was mentioned in my other thread on this which was using natit but deleting geforce.kext this worked....mostly well it went through all the darwin loading natit loaded went to those pink, purply blue squares i showed previously then loaded up a blue screen i thought this is it give it a few seconds and up will pop desktop.... but no nothing

So uninstalled natit,
Tried with boris instead, just did squarey stuff again,

Copied over ATINDRV, ATIX1000, ATIX1000GA, ATIX1000GL, ATIX1000VA stuff from the backup i made previously, into extensions did sudo crap to move and register it, rebooted and now after darwin does it's stuff i get a black screen BUT I can see my mouse and i know the system is operating because i heard someone sign in on Messenger

where should i go from here? I have a feeling that maybe this is related to the latest kernels on the AMD FINAL DVD maybe?

I think it could possibly have to do with the MachKernel but i'm not sure because my specialty is Video Cards (tried to get the x850xt working for 2 years so got some OSXpeiriance in that) I known that when I installed the 10.4.8 combo update, the installer.app stopped working so I said **** this, ill just get the final dvd and that was fine, but if it works on 10.4.7, i'd suggest you stay with that, if you need any 10.4.8 kexts for say a wireless keyboard or something then just copy over the 10.4.8 kext and it should work. I think this will give you the most functionality in the end, when 10.4.9 comes out, i'm not installing it, iv got all my progies in UB form and they're all workin great, I sugest you just stay with 10.4.7, if you really want to persue the 10.4.8 situation, ask other ppls with an x1600 maybe,

I was thinking, since the x1950 pro is based on the x1900 gt, and the x1900 gt is based on the x1900xt (r580) then I think you should try the Jccool Method. If it worked for my sapphire x1950xt based on the x1900 xt then it should work on yours,
i think it is worth a try .

I have modified what I did for mine to fit 7280. I really think you should give it a try.

If you do delete anything natit related and delete the 5 files included in my zip from your extensions folder and sudo mv the ones i gave, then sudo chown root...

Hope it helps your qe/ci situation, remember, vga only and right dvi port.

did you guys try the manual boris method to install the 1600 and 1900? i have a sapphire 1600 that the installer wouldnt work on so i just did the manual edit and it works like a champ!

As far as I know this is the best was to do it, its eith my way or the highway or the backroads(find a new way)I'v tried natit,boris, everything, best was is this, no dvi but u get vga with all resez on port to right don't know bout dual screen, i have 1 monitor with dvi and vga, i tried hookin op vga on right dvi on left no luick, dvi overrides it and dudnt boot,

You get qe/ci/rotat/ and never have to worry bout sysyem requirments on apurture etc, final cut studio works great, only works on device id 7244, (x1950xt) reconized as x1900 series,


Repost drivers in few hours,

(dont use the x1950pro.zip btw it is for the pro not xt, havnt tested on pro, compiled for someone,

install it as you would callisto, like, sudo mv, then sudo chown ect, not the id part though, id already set to 7244 in x1000 kext,

i download that now and will try it. i already messed around with that kext stuff a little, seems to work so far.

but if i get a kext file, can i take it and copy it in the extensions folder to make it work? or do i have to change some other file for that?

and those kexts which are in the extensions folder, are they all being loaded on startup? if not, how do i activate them?

basically, extract the extensions.zip to desktop,

look inside, 5 files, cool eh?
now go to system/library/extensions/
look there, if you see any of those 5 files DELETE em, so if you see x1000.kext or atindrv.kext exc in system extensions folder you drag em to da trash,

now, the 5 files on your desktop, cant just drag n drop, that would be to easy, go to /applications/utilities/terminal.app
(open terminal)
then in terminal type sudo -s
then your password
then you need to sudo mv each file 1 at a time so type sudo mv /users/(name)/desktop/extensions/(one of the 5 files) /system/library/extensions


for me, the atindrv file would look like,

sudo mv /users/darwin/desktop/extensions/atindrv.kext /system/library/extensions


do this command but for each 1 of the 5 files okay, by the end, the desktop/extensions folder should be empty, and /library/extensions folder should have 5 new files,

not easy huh?
bout to get harder,

now,

next 5 commands involve,

sudo chown -R root:wheel


now you have to sudo chown -R root:wheel all 5 files okay
the command for atindrv would look like
sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/atindrv.kext

but NOT JUST 4 THAT ONE, all 5 of them okay,

now,

one more,

now were doin,
sudo chmod -R 755

so for atindrv it would look like

just tried your proposal word for word. only the older posts suggesting to change the hardwar-id numbers from 7240 to 7244 and so on i did not quite follow i'm afraid...

now it starts but reacts as in the previous 10.4.8 first seed installation, with the screen staying black after the grey apple logo, but the hd working all the time.

can i somehow change the kexts now, or do i have to reinstall the whole osx?

If I install this, will I get my X1900XT fully recognised, and will I be able to run in full resolution? (1680x1050) ?

Since I had PowerColor x1950Pro, although I tried x1950proDriver, I was not able to confirm CI/QE.

i looked for the 7240, but it was already 7244. the other x1000ga.plugin i can open but not find the 72c1 code.

however the screen stays black after the reboot. that forces me to reinstall now the second time...

It seems that many people have device id 4240, i didnt expect this, my card is 7244 by default, my solution is only for device id 7244 not 7240, although I thought that 7240 was x19ooxt not 1950, my solution does not work for the pro, only xt with dev id 7244, reason why you have to reinstall osx86 is because mac assumes ur driver will work so theres no way of turning it off (there is but its complicated) I had to reinstall osx 13 times b4 i got my x1950xt to work,

as for the x1900 xt (think its 7240), there is already a perfect working solution

usually the dev id for an x1900 is 7240, I can try modding my methode to fit your card if you want,

i have the x1950xt, and i tried with 7244 - not worked. so i'll try with 7240 i guess...

and i ONLY checked this setting - 7244. i did nothing else besides your last description, because the first description with the 72c1 in the x1000ga.plugin file didnt work (no string like that in there) and the 7244 already was changed...

oh theres your problem, will never work with dvi
has to be vga all the way okay (that rhymed didnt it?) try with vga adapter on dvi closest to motherboard should workie

But now I have another problem, after a couple of minutes, the screen freezes:

One time, it looked like this:


But all other times, the screen just got frozen:


What could be wrong? Is there a way to fix this? Is it possible to make the graphics card fan spin a little bit faster? (Like you can do in Windows, if overheating is the problem)

Since I haven't got the sound to work yet, I can't tell if it's only the screen that freezes or the whole computer, but I almost think it's the whole computer, based on the first image.

Help would be very much appreciated

yes well mine does that too, it is unavoidable, it does freeze sometimes in first 5 seconds sometimes after 7 hours, i just take my time cliking and it is okay,

glad it helped though, but if you find it too annoying you can always go back to 1024 but in my opinion, i rather live with the freezing, I hope that eventually the kexts will be improved and the freezing will end,

About sound, I have a Creative X-Fi, which I don't believe works yet in OS X. But on my motherboard there's a Realtek sound chip if I'm not misstaken, My motherboard is called Asus P5W DH Deluxe

still not working with a dvi-vga-adapter...

i guess i have to take the d-sub-plug on my monitor, right?? and then, the adapter makes sense, because now i attachted a dvi-vga adapter to a vga-dvi-adapter to make the whole thing work with the dvi-plug on my screen...

so the final question for me would be: do i need a vga-cable coming out of my screen?

guess i'll have to try that again... damn, scratched together all my money just to buy that little thing for way too much money, and now this

if i knew this before, i would have bought a x1950 or 1900, whichever works as a dvi, because this way i have to get a new vga-cable, costing 20 or 30 euros again...

regarding the sound, i found no appleazalia file, maybe i haven't installed it at the beginning?

anyway, i'm getting closer to heaven...

Well, I have an X1900XT and I just can't get it to work (making the machine not crash in other resolutions than 1024x768), also, i had to switch from DVI to VGA to get 1680x1050.


But I still got my hopes up that I will get it to work

it works!

i can change resolution and whatever.

only i have to go into my vga-port, so it's a little more blurry i guess (as jccool mentioned).

just to see about those crashes....

I did some work on atindrv and fixed the crashing and the artifacts!!!! yay!!! you still need to run through vga but atleast there aint no more cdrashing/artifacts . Just replace this atindrv with the other (sudo mv, sudo chown etc) dont drag n drop,

does this azalia solution also give me inputs? because output works fine for me...

however the screen stayed black last time i switched on, but recovered as i put it in the right dvi-port. maybe, but less likely, it was due to the vga-extension cord that i attatched. of course with vga cable. then i had to switch the resolution to high again, and that worked, too. sometimes it works left, sometimes not, but on the right side it works always.

strangely, i could even boot without switching my hd's to ahci...

by the way, no artifacts or crashes on my machine!

I think I read that that sou8ndcard only gives you output,
I;m not sure what you mean by hd switching but the way I go from windows to mac is I go into the bios and make my mac drive the primary bot drive, then t boots from mac, then i make windows drive the primary one for windows,

anyhow, now that I need not worry about crashing i can start being productive on my mac!

im using the jas intel only 10.4.8, i install osx86 ok, it reboots, the grey mac screen comes up, then the screen goes blueish & blurs abit.

is this my x1950xt connect 3d cards fault or summit else? how can i fix this when i cant get to desktop.

The only package i installed was the intel packages, as that was the only one on the dvd.

im confused & i thaught getting suse 10.3 to work was hard last year lol

yes, no input, just output on my onboard soundcard.

hd switching means i go to main - ide configuration - sata configuration - configure sata as - and then switch ide to ahci. thats for the p5b-e, latest non-beta bios (0607 i think). that was recommended in another post, and until i changed that, my grey apple screen would end up with a small crossed circle on the top of the apple, never finishing the boot process. this behavior however changed lately, and i can only assume that it was the vga and all the tweaking around that made it work without ahci, because this is the only major thing i changed.

i have xp and osx both running on one hd, having partitioned the disk and formatted the first active primary partition in fat32 and installed osx first and then xp. only under these conditions would it work for me. no fat32 formatting or xp first would end up in a trashed system, and i already had f**** up mbrs after that...

only when you want to reinstall osx i guess i get a problem, because then i have to remove xp also... or do i?

and how about those strange folder permissions under xp, why do i have some folders to which "access is denied"? that's really uncool since some of my most important things lie there...

any help about that?
