Hi,

I've been trying for the last few hours to get Mac OS X Server 1.2 (Rhapsody 5.6) running on an old iMac DV SE. Using the "allow unsupported installations" checkbox, I can get it to change the boot loader of the machine and start up off the disk in an attempt to install. Unfortunately, it fails to recognize the UFS partition that the installer creates -- although it gets to the console-esque installer, it displays the error:

CODE
The installer was unable to find a preselected installation target.  When you hear the startup chime, hold down the "C" key to boot Mac OS from the Mac OS X Server Install CD, and follow the instructions provided to run the Mac OS X Server installation script

I've checked the partition map, and the Rhapsody UFS partition is there -- the installer just isn't seeing it.

Does anyone (RacerX... please :D) have any ideas?

All the best,

Hmm, might you have a computer that's on this list?

Connect the iMac using FireWire disk mode, start the installer on the other machine & install Rhapsody 5.6 on the iMac G3. I tried installing Rhapsody DR 2 on my iMac DV 400 MHz using the "allow unsupported installations" checkbox and it just froze up the computer. If I think of anything, I'll add it here.

The optimist in me says that 5.6 has better support than DR2 tongue.gif

I don't have a (working) Mac that's officially supported though. From what I was able to understand from here, using the target disk method you mentioned, the guy was able to get the iMac to boot (so it's apparently the installer that has issues... I think the OS itself can run.)
