InsanelyMac Forum > OSx86 Project > Hardware and Drivers
splintah
yes there is the hcl
but that doesnt really tell you which motherboard is the best choice if you are willing to buy the best possible motherboard for your hackintosh

easy install
a lot of things working out of the box
post your kexts or links to posts with kexts you used
lots of other hackintosh users have it
works without any issues and so on
which install did you use
what did you test and what didnt you test

and after all
the motherboard is the most important part of a proper hackintosh

please everybody help to expand this list and keep the thread clean
also mods please feel free to edit this post
other users just pm me and i will edit it

generally - get a intel chipset (there are also properly working amd rigs here but you will be pretty lonesome with your problems)

975 - good but expensive
which 975 board to get http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=34411
intel D975XBX battle axe (ideally the version2) http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...c=20008&hl=
asus p5w http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=32670
abit ab9pro http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=33466

965 - rather new in terms of compatibility and still rather thin spread among hackintosh - but seems to work fine for some users
patch for 965 users http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=34938
asus p5b http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...27202&st=40
Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...6858&hl=965

945 - pretty much the best in terms of compatibility and price + gma950 dual display- but not state of the art anymore but for a pentiumD more than enough

also there is a properly working rigs thread
which is pretty much the same as this one but for the complete system

from what i have read in those forums

intel badaxe
asus p5w
if you can afford it

asus p5b

but they work very well

For a budget machine that will really set you right go with an Intel 945 board with onboard GMA950. See the specs in my sig, but this machine is good enough to run iTunes, Firefox, World of Warcraft, and a Parallels Windows XP session all at the same time without any serious lag.

new sff pc with 975 chipset

http://global.shuttle.com/Product/Barebone/SD37P2.asp

looking quite nice
a 400watt psu for a proper graphics card is included
splintah
asus p5k-vm
very well supported micro atx mobo

all but the onboard graphics works (its a gma3100 and not a x3100)

there is a great thread in the genious bar - search for "p5k-vm guide tutorial"

p5k premium - everything works but wireless.

Gigabyte P35[C]-DS3X series: can be a bit tough to install on, depends on your method, but network works out of the box[in leo, tiger needs RealtekR1000.kext], sound is enabled with ALCInject, and graphics are as easy as ATIInject or NVInject, whichever you need.

Wireless will work if you choose the right P5K patch in Kalyway 10.5.1 DVD.

Asrock Conroe 1333 DVI/HD v2 everything works out of the box, SATA, Ethernet, GMA950 with QE/CI and full resolutions changes. Sound needs AppleHDAPatcher with an ALC888 patch and the bios has to be earlier than 1.5.

I used ToH Leopard and after dropping the BIOS from 1.8 to 1.4 everything went very smooth. Running it with 2GB, SATA HD and DVDRW and a X1950Pro which worked perfectly with Bronya's X1950Pro drivers.

Including the gigabit LAN and audio, without a patch??

While we're on it, if the P5K Premium works, I assume the P5K Deluxe works also? I can't even figure out the difference between these two boards.

There is virtually no support in terms of how many ppl have it but The AB9 QuadGT by ABIT works near flawlessly with simple drivers all available on this site.

P35 DS3L works well, Network in leo can be tricky.

Abit IX38 QuadGT works great, but no sound (Intel HD), and no modem by now...
