If you are having problems with your network card being recognised, but unable to connect to your router (e.g. if your card has been assigned an IP address, but 'may not be able to connect to the network', or if you have assigned your IP address manually but can't even ping your router), then.....

Try booting without the 'platform=x86pc' option. This worked for me, albeit at a performance cost.

I have this very problem with the ethernet port on my system (Realtek 8110S) but I also don't boot with the platform=x86pc option. In fact, when I do, I get a kernel error and have to reboot. Anyone have any ideas? I installed off a DVD, 915 motherboord w/ 900 video. Thanks!

Which method you used to install?

Maybe some Extensions are causing the error.

Some of them are CHUD*, ATI, AppleIntel, etc. boot with -v option and watch what the screen shows before error occurs.

Gracias, Alejandra. While those extensions were not the issue, checking the console.log showed I was having repeated oah750d and ATSServer crashes, which I fixed with the new Maxxuss patch. I am embarrassed to say the reason my ethernet wasn't working was because I needed to reset my cable modem.

Lesson learned! Everything works now - it is amazing.
