I've decided that now I want to add a TV tuner (w/remote) to my PC. I've seen a bunch of random posts all over about people that have and haven't gotten them to work. I'm am in no way trying to steal from those posts but I'd be nice to consolidate the info into one thread. So to the main question again....

What card or type is most compatible with a 'hacked' OSX box?

It'd be nice to find the card that's compatible with MythTV, etc...but I know I can't have everything. smile.gif

But what slot do you use (PCI, PCI-X, PCI Express, USB) if that is an issue.
tha_toadman
I have only 1 card in the PCIx slot for my asus video card. I have 2 open PCI's and 1 PCI x1 slot. Either will work for me.

I think the better will be to stick with USB devices, there are no UNIVERSAL PCI cards, so dont expect to find drivers for any pci card, maybe some PCIx for the macpro could be another solution.

Migla TV i think is one of the betters. i Nearly Brought one las time i was shopping around.

I have a miglia MiniTV HD and love it. I also got a refurb EyeTV 500 from elgato for about 250 (No DRM and dual antenna). ATSC and Q-CAM HDTV Would recmmend both. The Migla is USB2, the EyeTV FIrewire.
tha_toadman
check out what i just stumbled across...

HDHomeRun

this is really new to the market but this would be something just like what I'm looking for. and i'd also bet that no one here has even used this yet.

What software are you using with the EyeTV500?
I am interested in getting one of there.
us$200 for refurb unit from Elgato.

How well does it work?

this thread seems to have died... sad.gif ...here's my attempt to revive it.

I'm almost tempted to try the HDHomeRun in my home. If a WinTV 350 card is ~130, then why not get one of these units for roughly 40 more? I just might have to do it soon...but, I need to see some reviews first.

I have a Twinhan 3020c working vie iTele and MMInput Driver.

PepeLapiu
I had to decide on one and since I will also be running Linux, I opted for a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR350. It will work for both Linux and windoze expee ...... not holding my breath but I hope it will have some use on OS X86 as well.

i have a pinnacle PCTV PRO
its pci and the chipset is BT878
in windows i use modified drivers ,i dont care about pinnacle's
do you think that there is any chance the mac to recognise the card?
pinnacle says that there are not any drivers for mac in this card
but,who f**s pinnacle
i think im gonna try that iTV when i reboot to OSx
it says that also adds a kernel,so maybe recognise my PCI TVtuner
who knwos..

I'm wondering if my EyeTV 200 will work without QE, I know it doesn't need CI since it works fine on my mini that does not support CI. I just need to get a firewire card first

I am the proud owner of an Elgato EyeTV 500.

IT WORKS on my 10.4.7 system.
I am watching TV now.

This gizmo ONLY works on ATSC (Over the Air) or Unencrypted Clear QAM on cable
It does not do analog

Plugs into Firewire and comes with EyeTV software

More info at
http://www.elgato.com/index.php?file=products_eyetv500

Note - this is a discontinued unit.
Supposedly it was too expensive to make
and not enough customers

Depends. I read that Fly Video 3000 cards work with the AlchemyTV software. (That is a saa7134 based tv card. I have that, but not tested yet.)

starodub
For those who interested in getting philips 713x work (and for the rest) - I've just found opencvlibrary.sourceforge.net: there are linux drivers for various cards and some info related to driver adoptation for mac. Currently I don't have time to try it - so let us know If you'll get success with it.

For DVB-T, the USB2 version of the Terratec Cingery T² works fine with a current EyeTV. But I'm not sure if you need DVB-S, -C or -T smile.gif

Leadtek Winfast tv2000 xp works fully with itv on leopard 10.5.1 ! Ihaaaaa ;-) Lucky Me!

Hi everyone, Just got leo working no problems and trying to get all my hardware working. Wondering has anyone attempted to get their pci digital tuner cards working in osx86?

while searching for drivers i came across this site which has drivers for mac for many of the popular Digital Tuner cards

http://defyne.org/dvb/driver.html

I gave it a quick try but my card was not detected, i assume it has something to do with having the right kexts or kernals (i dont really understand that stuff) or something because of where the card is on my motherboard. But i really have no idea.

Has anyone tried to get their pci digital tuner card to work?

One funny thing after the install is that my Audigy sound card doesn't work of course but the firewire on it does.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks
BugsB
@ Anacondaq: try Chun-Nan's kexts (see my sig)

@ all: I need a PCMCIA or Express Card slot solution for my Laptop (NOT USB). Which PCMCIA or Express slot DVB-T cards work with iHacks?

Thanks,
Bugs

how did you do that?
sama7896
leadtek tv2000 xp global does NOT work on 10.5.2 or .3 ... something about the mminputfamilly not working in leopard (edit :apparently it doesn't work in intel 10.4.11 either), it's a known problem that upgrading to leopard breaks the itv app.

So i am curious nenad5 what is the distro you used and with which kernel of 10.5.1 you used? Thanks for your reply. And what setup ...
Anyway i am going to test this the next days and post back results. I'm not giving up on this. Bought the card only for this ( don't reply it's a cheap card, i know that, that's why i bought it smile.gif )

Update: On kallyway 10.5.1 it scans for channels but hangs, same thing it does in tiger xxx 10.4.11
weird, i'll investigate further
on trying to kextload the mminputfamily.kext there are some errors:kernel extension
CODE
/System/Library/Extensions/MMInputFamily.kext has problems:
Missing dependencies:
{
    "com.apple.kernel.iokit" =
"No valid version of this dependency can be found"
    "com.apple.kernel.libkern" =
"No valid version of this dependency can be found"
}
Warnings:
{
"Kext has a kernel dependency prior to version 6.0 and CFBundleVersion does not match executable's MODULE_VERSION" = true
}

in other words .... BUMP

Any ideas ?
sama7896
it seems there is no actual support for intelmac concerning pci tuner cards. The itv and xtv project is long dead and needs to be revived. That is to be expected for a operating system built on exclusivity idea.

Bringing this thread back to life:

I recently bought the Hauppauge 950 (black) USB tuner. I found that this card will work perfectly with a hackintosh (specs below) provided that one uses the current 3.0.3 version software. A certain green demon has this available. Previous versions of this software do not detect the tuner.

I have 2 USB DVB-T sticks. Bouth are made by Hama, and both work with MediaCentral (automaticly recognized as Miglia Mini TV) with no bugs and problems. Exept 5min demo mode smile.gif

EyeTV find stations, have a sound but picture are freezed at first frame all the time.

USB's are:
Hama USB 2.0 mini DVB-T Stick (http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/tv-cards/hama-usb-2-0-mini-dvb-t-stick/)
Hama DVB-T USB 2.0 Stick (http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/tv-cards/hama-dvb-t-usb-2-0-stick/).

EDIT: miniDVB does not work with EyeTV!
Other one with remote works, I just needed to turn off roseta in info.
