Quick notes:
Quicktime 7.1.6 will not play sound. Keep 7.1.5, or reinstall it if you have upgraded.

FSB runs way to fast on mifki. Set to 266 or 267 - http://www.macgeekblog.com/blog/archive/20...n-by-mifki.html
*This fixes sync issues with Skype dropping calls after 35 secs

Koolkal will not maintain ICH8 bootfix - Uphuck will not install either. Wasn't able to test the Bikerdude integrated DVD.

Oh... eSata drivers failed. I'm on internal Sata II.

More later... pirate2.gif

Longtime Lurker, first time poster.

I'm having some issues with my XPS410 getting it to see the Hard Drive.

I've tried everything in this thread so far and nothings working.
I went out and bought a new external DVD burner and it boots to the install just fine.

Once in the install however it will not see my HD.

I've tried it with RAID on and with the RAID set to the ATA/Autodetect mode.
I've tried it on every port on the motherboard.

Right now it does not have a partition on it at all. It's completely wiped clear of everything.

I've tried both the AMD/Intel SSE2/3 DVD & the Intel Only SSE2/3 DVD, with the same response.

This is only my second attempt at a Hackintosh as my laptop worked perfectly, but the wife needs it for school so I can't have it on there for now.

Any ideas....anything that could either just fix the issue or perhaps a detailed step by step as I'm completely stupid when it comes to this OSX86 project.

hi All,
It is great to see people having a go at getting osx86 running on this beast, I think it will kick ass once all the problems are ironed out.

Firstly, this is how far I have got with it:

* can't install from inbuilt SATA dvdrom drive, and cant get a USB adapter to work on it either.
* HAVE installed uphuck 10.4.9 v1.3 onto a SATA drive from another working system, and got the drive to boot on the Dell 9200 by editing the ich8-R AppleVIAATA.kext with the correct device ID (0x28228086 instead of 0x28218086)

issues:
* No ethernet
* Bugged graphics, going to try latest Natit later today (the system has a Nvidia geForce 7900GS)
* SLOW disk access, should I be using ICH8 or ICH8-R ????
Thanks in advance.
slave-zeo
I think I found the best installer disc so far.

*full SATA support for installing thru booting
*No Audio as of yet. I am looking in to this right now.

EDIT: Audio works via AppleHDAPatcher_v1.16 and STAC9227_83847618.txt, I had to use the 1.16 version to get any worky worky. I attached them for your pleasure.

*LAN still does not work. I dont think it ever will.
*Nvidia video works perfectly. 7300le and 7900gs, both PCI-e 16x

I am tweaking stuff and setting up my system right now.

There WILL BE a guide forthcoming.

I'm extremely interested in an install disc that works with SATA as I have a Dimension 9200 which I believe is the same mobo as the XPS 410. If you need a tester for your guide let me know! biggrin.gif

Oh Snap!

I forgot to tell you folks which installer i am using.

Is the uphuk 1.4i one. Its really freaking small and should be fast to download. No issues on it yet. i am working on a guide based on this disc. or maybe a future version if it comes out soon. at this point it's based on 10.4.9. I haven't updated my xps10 to 10.4.10 yet.

Still no LAN or PCI wireless for me, though.

I tried to install uphuck's 1.4i dvd and it didn't recognize it, will I have to install it from an external dvd drive? I don't have one though... sad.gif

Woot, I finally joined the hackintosh club!

My config:
  • Dimension 9200 | nVidia GeForce 7300 LE | Linksys LNE100TX v5.1
  • Jas 10.4.8 SSE3 Intel Only
    • Direct boot on internal DVD (only worked in one of my DVD drives for some reason)
    • RAID turned to "Auto" in BIOS (and not "On")
    • JaS.10.4.8.Combo.Update
    • Semthex kernel
    • INTEL.ICH8.SATA.Support
  • JaS 10.4.9 Combo Update Intel SSE3 (installed later on)
  • Tulip 1.2
  • AppleHDAPatcher_v1.16 and STAC9227_83847618.txt
  • Natit_edited.kext.zip for a corrected dual monitor set up
For the Sigmetel 9227 sound, has anyone tried to use it with SPDIF? The patcher works fine with 6 channel analog out, but I can't get anything on the optical SPDIF.

I still have no fix for the slow SATA disk speed, please if ANYONE solves this post the solution!
Thanks.

Slave, did your mic input work after this update?

In fact, does anyone have a XPS 410 and have the mic inputs working? it's the ONLY thing that isn't working on my entire box. I'm sticking with 10.8 until Leopard probably.

Hey,

glad i found this thread. i'm typing this on my fully working Dell xps410 with 10.4.9 on it smile.gif

So far everything works great. my question is this, what is the correct way of updating my install to 10.4.10? is there a step by step guide as to what to select in the installer, which installer to use?

I didn't do the update right after installing it and afraid of running one and breaking my working system smile.gif I fully switched from windows XP to OSX and so far like it. I got my working copy of XP into fusion and run both side by side while i'm still hunting for OSX equivalent applications that I had on windows so I can completely switch over.

thanks

Which method did you use to update to 10.4.9; Loki updater or the Apple Update hack?

All:

I went and installed Connect360 recently to stream to my Xbox 360, but it seems that it is not working correctly. I only get a second of audio before the sound cuts out. Pictures also take forever to load, if at all. Has anyone encountered this yet?

I'd like to do some reference tests to see if it's Connect360, iTunes, the Xbox, or a network problem, but I need a reference. wink.gif
kalex
i used uphuck 10.4.9 1.4iR2 release to install my system. i had to change raid settings from RAID on to RAID Autodetect and everything worked the first time.

I also tried R3 release and that didn't work for me.

Alex
AgentHEX
I just tried uphuck 1.4i r3 and it works fine. Audio untested. Network prolly doesn't work. Too bad I don't have a compatible graphics card yet (came w/ 8300gs, which doesn't even do 2d right, doesn't refresh windows).

This is a new Dimension 9200 w/ Q6600 quad in it.

Make sure you select the sata drivers. I also select speedstep. I installed on a partition on the main drive from default sata dvdrw drive.

10.4.9 update there is jas intel only and loki as well both work fine except the loki kernel will coz timer to be really fast so recommend not installing that. upgrading to 10.4.10 is just as simple you can install straight from 10.4.8.
kalex
i actually figured out how to do upgrade. i used koolkal 10.4.10 update file and selected only the 10.4.10 update and new kernel. after that i copied back my saved IOATAfamily.kext and rebooted. after that ran all OSX updates and now everything is good smile.gif

koolkal kernel id be careful of at least the one i used in May or so causes problems with photoshop not being able to open files oddly enough.

Thanks!

i'm not sure which one i used but it seemed to work fine, i installed photoshop on it and so far hadnt had any problems with it.

mikessilo:

I had the same problem. I used the natit and it fixed it. Then I switched to an Nvidia 7300GT because the QE and CI weren't supported on the 1300.

All:
Finally got around to upgrading to 10.4.10. All I have to say is sweet! System profiler actually recognizes my comp as a proper mac now, and my true number of processors (1 proc with 2 cores vs 2 proc with single cores). No more FSB settings either.

To upgrade I did the following:
- From a working 10.4.8 install, I upgraded to 10.4.10 using the Software Update technique.
- After I verified a working 10.4.10, I used PascalW's 10.4.10 delta updater to update the kernel.

It seems to be getting easier and easier to keep these hackintoshes up and running!

Updates and sound...

I updated all the programs I had following the 10.4.10 upgrade. It seems that the audio update will knock out the sound drivers from the AppleHDA patcher. Reran the patcher and rebooted. Sound works fine again. Quicktime 7.2 also works with sound.

so slave-zeo is it possible to install without taking that hard drive out?

Just wanted everyone to know... Taruga (with the help of vipersporthp) has a new 9227 driver. On my machine, the following ports work: rear analog audio out (front 2 channels only), rear mic in, rear TOSLINK (2-channel sound only), front analog audio out (headphones). kexts can be found in the first post of http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=32859

I installed "uphuck 10.4.9 Intel x86 install dvd v1.4i r3" on my Dell Dimension 9200 (aka XPS 410).. It only booted after I selected "Raid On" in BiOS.. Sound works, but it doesn't detect my microphone. NIC doesn't work, but I successfully used an ASUS WL-176G wireless adapter and a Realtek 8193 based NIC. Because I have two other network cards for my PC, I disabled the integrated NIC in BIOS and now every time I change some setting in BIOS the PC shuts down then starts back on, instead of just restarting. Does this only happen to me?
Florin Pop
Update: Sound input works after installing Taruga's latest driver.

I'm in the same boat too. I'm thinking of getting a new Dell and was looking for feedback for a OSX compatible machine.

I was told either this machine, or a e520.

Hi!
i know it might sound Stupid.....
I have a Dell dimension 9200, 4GB, 2x250GB, 2x sata DVD drives(1xdvd, 1x dvdrw) ATI x1300 256MB VGA, ETC, etc....
This is what i did:
Changed my RAID to Autodetect,
I used Uphuck 10.4.9 v1.4i r2 (as i could not get r3 ANYWHERE),
Made sure there were NO other USB devices connected, webcams, usb-drives,bluetooth....

It booted, set up my drive in Utilities and installed, I marked the core installation, natix1300, ALL ichXX and ichXXr's, even the multimeters!

After rebooting, my display worked perfect, then I used the "MacOSXUpd10.4.10Intel.mpkg.zip" patch from "MAC OSX 10.4.9 with the 10.4.10 Update (KILL3R)" torrent to do an upgrade to 10.4.10 inside MACOSX!

This is the first time I loaded iWorks08 so i know it is 10.4.10!

I will now try and source the drivers for my NIC and Sound, if anyone can help?
NIC: integrated intel 82566DC Gigabit NIC
Sound: Sigmatel 9227 Audio

I hope this will help somebody

If you guys have broadcom ethernet card I suggest this site as it has some drivers that may be compatible : http://www.small-tree.com/Articles.asp?ID=123

The problem with my xps 410 is that Im using Kalyway osx 4.10.10 I noticed I had to install the SATA support drivers from the cd to get passed the mac with the no smoking sign at bootup. Otherwise the system will see that you have ur hard drive on RAID or RAID/ATA and it wont boot to it. Doing a reinstall on this to see if the SATA included drivers work. I think last time they worked...before I dumped OSX because I did not try the broadcom ethernet drivers from that site yet.

Hi. PLEASE can someone help me... I'm pulling my hair out here...!!!!!!!!! I have a Dell Dimension 9200 and i'm trying to install Uphuck OSX 10.4.9 v.1.4.i r2 on it (with r3 on the way)... I'm getting to the BOOT VOLUME NOT FOUND bit and can't get any further...

I've tried everything that I can find posted in this thread: RAID vs AUTO DETECT, removing all usb devices, removing any extra pci cards and I can't seem to get to the disk utility.

I'm about to release some tracks, but need my own Logic 8 machine to finish a couple of them... I'm pretty tight for cash and thought that I could go down the PC/Cubase route, only to find that Vista is a pain in the ass for music at the moment...

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE can someone help... I am also willing to test anything that you guys need testing, if that helps at all...

mrjoe
Yeah, has anyone managed to install Leo?
I tried the flat-image method already, it doesn't work.
Gives the still waiting for root device error.
Anyone know an image that actually works (Leo)?
We need experimenters!
I also tried 9a527, didn't work either. I don't know the error, but the 9a527 was kalyway.
And does mac.nub Tiger work? Which Tiger works without taking out the hard drive? tongue.gif

hey guys,

i haven't posted in ages b/c when i figured that the Dimension 9200/XPS 410 osx86 effort was stalled, i decided it was time to build my hackintosh form scratch -- which i did back in May, just in time fro uphuck 1.3.

well now my homebrew HackPro is running Leo very well and i figured i'd come and see what was going on with the XPS 410 Extravaganza.

i used the brazilmac iso to get Leo up and running on the Hackpro. it was pretty str8-forward and everything worked "out of the box"

does the BrazilMac ISO work with the XPS 410? my Dimension 9200 is my work PC so i really shouldn't install osx86 on it, but i couldn't resist trying osx86 out a few months ago when i got it -- i was practically begging me for it.

little did i know it would be such a pain to get it to work.

btw here is a screenshot of Leo on my HackPro running Colloquy with /sysinfo so u can so you can see some basic specs.

everything runs super smooth except for About This Mac, which seems to crash Finder -- otherwise, you would see that in my screenshot as well.

CMM.
slave-zeo
hey folks. Sorry if this effort appears to be stalled but once I got my system working properly under 10.4.9 (video, sound, sata, pretty mcuh everything but built on LAN) I didn't really need to tinker with it anymore. It is working great and I use it several hours a day to play World of Warcraft plus other general computer stuff. If it's not broke don't fix it smile.gif

Now once i dive into Leopard it will be an entirely different story.

Sticman, on Leopard as with the 10.4.x releases you will need a patcher for the sigmatel 9227 audio. I'm not sure if the older patcher will work with letopard (the last i used was 1.1.6 i think, it worked splendidly.) You can find links to all the pathces I used to make mine work in the very first post of this thread. Keep in mind with most modern install discs you might only have to patch the sound to have a complete working system minus LAN. I doubt LAN will ever work. If you find any further info about the sound patcher please post it here.

bigdaddyrob2g, this is very promising sounding. I have the disc downloaded and I'll try it tonight, The new 2.3.0 patch is out for wow today so I'll have some down time to play around with leopard. I am kind of wanting to hold off for the new EFI enabled install discs that are on the horizon.

sound worx with hda patcher as slave-zero mentioned. the best install so far has been the xXx 10.4.10 disc for me. ToH dvd does not work for me but another xps410 owner it boots fine same mobo. Brazilmacs works for me as long as i switch outa few kexts i actually think its just one but i did all to be sure. Lan you know i havent tried the stock one i gave up hope on it as this one worx outta the box.

I got the ToH install DVD but I can't seem to get rid of the "Still waiting for root device" error. Yes I have my SATA controller set to Autodetect. Those of you who managed to install Leo, please tell me: your bios version, your HDD/Optical drives configuration (what ports did you use on the motherboard?) and what else I could change to get rid of that nasty looking prompt.
Uphuck 10.4.9 worked for me. XxX 10.4.10 didn't. And now Leo isn't working either.

My Hardware configuration is:
Intel C2D E6600
2 Gigs of RAM
3xSATA drives connected to ports SATA0-SATA2. I tried with just one HDD plugged in and it doesn't work.
2xOptical Drives connected to ports SATA4-SATA5
Nvidia 7900GS
