Full Version: SB128 / CT4810 audo corruption on 10.4.7 install.

Hi folks,

I've installed OS X using the myzar 10.4.6 disk, updated to 10.4.7; and then had some fun playing with soundcards and the onboard sound to get it working. The board is a Gigabyte K8VT800 which has the ALC850 onboard - this I had no luck at all with - never got it recognised or any sound from it...

I then tried an ES1370 I had kicking around (almost literally) - the driver for that appeared during start up - but complained the card wasn't ready (I can't remember the exact message).

So then I tried a Soundblaster 128 - having found the page in the wiki with the soundcards that work ;-)

Unfortunately - although it works - after playing for approximately 7 minutes I get corrupt audio - it's repeatable - in fact it happens all the time - regardless of source (CD / AAC / MP3 / Streamed audio / Video playback). I can't find anything on the Wiki about this - and only one ancient post on the forum. Anyone got any fixes for this?

System information:
10.4.6 Myzar install updated to 10.4.7; USBpatch installed (USB keyboard and mouse)
Gigabyte K8VT800 Motherboard
Athlon 3000+ (S754) (SSE2)
512Meg memory (my second bloody dimm died; awaiting a replacement!)
Soundblaster 128 / CT4810 card (Vendor ID: 0x1274 Device ID: 0x5880)
nVidia 6200 graphics card (using VGA output - DVI seems a bit quirky)
Firewire card (works, can't remember what chipset it is though, came from my old G3 Mac!)
Installed on SATA drives

Um, I think that's all the information I can think of. If anyone can help I'd be really greatful.

Hi Kate. I have the same problem on my Dell Dimension 5100 machine. Luckily I´ve got OnBoard Sigmatel 9220 as well, but the sound on that is not as good as on CT4810. Was looking for a solution here and there, no luck.

Ah. At least it's not just me. I guess from the tumbleweed that no-one's yet found a solution...

I was going to ask if the m-audio PCI cards worked, but it doesn't look (from my quick squiz) on the forums like they do. I've just made a note in the Wiki regarding the problems, since I've seen a few posts regarding this problem and no solution sad.gif

I guess I'll have to get a hub / USB soundcard (I've only got the front USB ports free on my machine 'n I use them for other things).

same problem with the audio degradation but I'm experiencing it on 10.4.5, I can't even get the card to load on my 10.4.7 JAS. Lame because I bought it from the WIKI recommendations (for 10.4.5) so I thought for sure I wouldn't have any problems.

Oh well I only paid $7 for it. -sigh-

grrr CT4810 sound distortion no fix uurgh.

Same problem here... mi configuration:
Intel 945PVS Mobo
ATI X550 Video
Creative CT4810 PCI (recongnized as AC97)
JaS 10.4.8

The only temporal fix is pause the app for 2 or 3 secs (iTunes for example) and play again...

In the past I was having the same problem with the onboard sound (AC97) of Intel D865PERL mobo

The Wiki is outdated in this point... must be edited.

Well the Wiki is updated now... smile.gif

just for anyone who is interested, i'm getting the same problem with an on-board ct5880 on a gigabyte ga-8irx (using 10.4.8 but also did it on 10.4.6). after 5 mins the audio starts to degrade aand then stops completely. doesn't bother me much, but a solution would be handy tongue.gif

What chip is doing the output? Are you having also an AC97?
Because my PCI128 has a CT5880 plus an AC97 codec for output.
Now I'm looking after some kind of Linux/FreeBSD driver source code made especially for CT5880, which could be ported to OSX.
But as I said before in another topic, I think there are some sort of power saving issues. I find it somehow strange this several minutes of good working, and after that suddenly the sound gets corrupted. I think if the driver was not good, then we would not even get any sound out of it. Basically the problem is elsewhere...

same problem here.. i'm tired and searching for an external creative card which max 100$ sad.gif

Same here - SB128 on 10.4.8
Has anyone found a permanent fix? Although the pause for 2-3 secs works - it eventually stops working after 3-4 pauses!

Sorry guys, it seems like this one can't be fixed. At least not until there are some official Creative drivers.
I had to go back to the onboard sound (ALC882) which is not so bad, and audio problems went away.

Darn it.. really wish there was a fix to this.. the audio is much better than the onboard (which I still can't get working either!).

Anyhow.. I will continue trying... if anyone out there has a Creative CT4810 working.. (mine.. like the others.. gets distorted after 7 minutes or so).. let us know :-)

I know the driver it uses is MaxxussAC97AudioES137x.kext.... but hoping there is an update or something around.
