Ok so the various rumors flying around got me thinking about iPod Video's and just how they would be used in public places etc.
I wondered about a few things, for example - if you watch a movie on an iPod (or dvd player for that matter) on a bus, where someone can watch over your shoulder - does that constitute a public performance and hence a copyright infringement?
Also what about movies that have restricted certificates - does watching Pulp Fiction on the bus with a 14 year old sitting next to me mean that i am allowing a minor to view an 18 ® certificate film?
What about porn - presumably you could be arrested for watching that in a public place where minors could be exposed to it?
If you watch a movie on an iPod that belongs to you, it won't constitute a public performance because you're not playing it for masses nor asking money for it. It's like you invite a friend to watch a movie at your house, nothing wrong with it. Plus, if you bought a movie for an iPod, it's in the license that you bought that is meant to be played on a PORTABLE PLAYER, meaning you can play it anywhere you go.
About the viewing the movie with a 14yo on your side, well, all you need to do is tell him that you're watching a movie for adults only, and he shouldn't be watching this. That's the right thing to do. If he keeps looking, well, that's not your problem anymore -- it's his/her parent's.
