Dear friends,
today I bought the Belkin's USB Wireless Adapter USB 2.0 802.11g for my Hackintosh 10.4.7 (check the sign for more about). I read about this adapter that it works on OSX 10.4.7 but I was unable to make it up.
I downloaded the package following:

CODE
http://www.ralinktech.com/drivers/Mac/STA_2500USB%20D-1.1.2.0%20OS-10.4.X%202005_11_29.dmg

Then I reboot the system as required, but here's what System Profiler says:

As you can realize, wireless adapter is not showed into the Network preference panel. What's wrong?

Thank you,
generica

There's the problem. The version 4 (or 4000) of this wireless adaptor no longer works with Ralink drivers, apparently you need to install the ZyDAS 1211 chipset ones instead:

http://www.atheros.com/RD/downloads/download_ZD1211B.htm

That one should work. I'm in the middle of trying to get these drivers running on my Mac right this moment, which is how I found your post. *grin*

OK, an update: I installed the above-linked drivers and the wireless adaptor worked, however before I could get it to connect to any wireless networks I had to configure the en1 device in my system preferences, and THEN run the Wlan utility to choose a wireless network. Try that on your system if you have problems getting the Wlan utility to recognize your wireless network in its list. I had to set up the en1 to use DHCP and Apply the changes to make the IP configuration "active" before Wlan could see the network list.

Strangely I found that my DHCP server wouldn't respond over WEP-enabled transit, but on a non-WEP connection to my network, the DHCP worked. This could be driver bug, perhaps?

Good luck,
Steve

Where do you buy the F5D7050?

And would it also work with 10.4.6?
wondergod
bought mine at worst(best) buy...

and mine worked in 10.4.6

by the way mine was a version 2...check the barcode on the bottom of the box...because its not labeled on the actual device...

Does v4000 work with WEP encryption? sev7en's screenshot shows WEP but I've read (in this thread, as well) that WEP doesn't work...
wondergod
I dunno about ver4 but I know version 2 wep 128bit works fine

Why would you want to use WEP with this? If you use a wireless MAC filter to only allow known network devices to connect to your switches you avoid incurring the costs of encryption.

actually I use both Mac restriction and WEP....Mac address cloning exist just as WEP cracking does...I also only allow a specific amount of DHCP address allowed and its in a unusual range....

all in all I think most war drivers would rather deal with one of my neighbor's networks wink.gif

This link is broken. Does anybody know where to find this driver?

My F5D7050 would not connect to an arbitrary, hidden SSID network (i.e.: the one that my campus area network uses) which really sucked. I ended up replacing the miniPCI express card for a Dell TrueMobile 1390 from eBay ($13, way cheaper than the $40 F5D7050 Best Buy sells it for). Not to thread-crap, though, I just wanted to add that this card doesn't show up as an airport (as shown above, and for obvious reasons regarding the chipset) which means no preferred networks and iffy connecting to hidden networks.

Working links here under "Zydas USB Chipset".

Working now, although I too would love to be able to connect to a known, hidden SSID. That's one heck of a gotcha, IMHO.

Any ideas or solutions out there?

hi. mac noobie here. so pls bear with me (im a pc guy)

long story short, my mom "inherited" my sister's old imac (g4, osx 10.3). i have wifi setup in the place so i wanted my mom to be able to connect etc etc. . but it doesnt have a built in airport thingie and i didnt want to spend all that much so i was able to purchase the belkin f5d7050 v4000.

ok here's the problem. . .

i got the zydas driver loaded, the belkin stick lights up (yellow), the wlan utility is in the docking bar.

i check in the system profiler and in the usb section, the belkin usb wlan shows up.

i go to network settings and it doesnt detect a new port. so i cant fix the wlan utility as well.

what do i do? can anyone help?

thanks a bunch

I have the exact same problem as agew23. If there is a solution PLEASE let me know!

I found a solution - I downloaded the airport software using Software update. That fixed it for me!!

I've got the F5D7050 v4 working on my Uphuck 10.4.9 installation, but it goes extremely slow when I'm using WPA-TSK. It connects perfectly without any encryption, but it downloads at like 20 kb/sec if I'm using WPA. Has anybody else experienced this? I'm using version 4.5.7 of the Zydas drivers and 3.3.3.0 of the Zydas "utility."

Edit: Even without encryption, I'm downloading at like 550 kb/sec over my local area connection. That's not even close to what it should be over a 54 mbps connection. Does anybody else's F5D7050 work at full speed?

Generica... Thanks!!!

My v4000 Belkin F5D7050 now works thanks to your support. I'd tried all sorts of things, who'd think it could be as simple as that?

I'm writing this over my new wireless connection on a 10.4.10 installation.
got no name
Does the F5D7050 support WPA2 under OSX86?

Thank you

Generica, thx for your explination, it helped me out!!

Anyone know if there are any newer drivers hidden somewhere for the v4000 Belkin F5D7050?

Im running v4.5.7.0 of the utility and v3.3.3.0 of the driver.

Hi all. I recently got OSX running on my AMD system and am working on getting wireless working. After a couple hours of trying to get my Linksys PCI wireless card runnig I gave up and went to best buy for the Belkin 7050 because there seems to have been a LOT of success with that.

I put it in the USB port, got a light on the unit but nothing in the system profiler. So I thought it might be a fluke and install the ZD1211 driver because I have ver. 4000 of the adapter... still nothing.

At this point I have the WLAN config utility available but no adapter available, either in the config or in the system profiler... any suggestions??

I have the v4000. Have the app installed and the network works. However after about 25-20 minutes the connection stops working, the LED on the adapter seems to go off also. From them a restart is required to get it up and running again, am I the only one to find this issue?
ichii
I can see it under the ZD program Belkin USB2.0 WLAn but under available Network there is nothing, I'm using a Linksys Router, not sure what the model it is but it's the new black one. I'm using OSX 10.5
snuff-stuff
I got the same problem as ichii. I'm using a belkin router though. Any idea?
msquared
you may have your SSID hidden in you router config, that would be why it isnt showing up look in the options of you router to see
