I want to buy an USB wireless adapter for leopard and I want to know what your opinion is about the Edimax EW-7718Un which uses the Ralink RT2870 chipset, who'se drivers are also for 10.5 - http://www.ralinktech.com/ralink/Home/Support/Macintosh.html

Would this only work in kalyway or would it work in ToH and IATKOS as well?

Again if any of those does not remove the whole 10.5/10.5.1 IONetworking kext it should be work.

I just bought a Belkin Wireless G USB adapter (F5D7050 ver. 3000) and it works great with my vanilla Leopard install, both in 10.5.0 and 10.5.1. I just downloaded the Ralink drivers, installed them, enabled the connection (as ethernet) in the network control panel. The only drawback is that I have to re-insert the USB adapter every time I reboot to get the driver to activate the wireless, but beyond that it seems to work great!

version 2000 and 3000 of the hardware use Ralink drivers, but newer versions use ZyDas drivers. I bought a ver. 5000 and couldnt get it to work with either of these drivers, so avoid that version. Here's the email I got from Belkin with links to the various drivers available:

We understand that you are looking for the drivers to install the USB Adaptor on Mac Operating system.

To resolve the issue, please follow the below instruction :
only F5D7050 version 2,3 & 4 USB adapters are compatible with Mac OS 10.3 & 10.4. It is not compatible with 10.2 version. Check if the adapter you have is F5D7050 v2, v3 or v4. You can check the version of adapter on the box. If the model number is followed by F5D7050 2xxx (2000 series), it is version 2, version 3 will be mentioned as F5d7050 3xxx (3000 series) and version 4 will be mentioned as F5d7050 4xxx (4000 series). Anything other than these two would be version 1.

Please download the drivers from the links given below:

F5D7050 version 2:

Mac 10.3: http://www.belkin.com/support/download.asp...01;=1&mode=

Mac 10.4: http://www.ralinktech.com/ralink/Home/Support/Macintosh.html

F5D7050 version 3:

hi guys, i have this question... my leopard can detect my ethernet card from the system profiler.. however, on the BSD Device name it says "eno".. also on the network under system preferences it says "the cable for built-it ethernet is not plugged in".. is there a way i can make my network card work? thanks guys...

I just did this: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...mp;#entry570036

and now it works great. I had the same problem, it showed up but was showing as unplugged only.

This card worked for me right out of the box (thanks to help from forum members here for suggesting it) in Leopard 10.5.1 (recognized as Airport):

I just got this:

(Aethros R-5800 mini-pcie)
For my Asus A8js. It is recognized (10.5.1) and runs until Firefox is started, then it disconnects from my router. I don't know where and what logs to look at to troubleshoot this.

I would like to recommend the Belkin Wireless G Plus desktop card. Model number F5D7001 PCI Card with Broadcom chipset 43xx . It worked for me using the ToH V2 10.5.0 version perfectly. No installation of drivers. Recognized right out of the box.

I've been using ToH V2 from the moment it was released and never had a problem with connecting to the Internet. This was using a USB Asus WL-167 WLAN Adapter. But with the Asus I could never turn Airport on. Airport simply was not recognized. I tried so many different configurations, read so many posts, here and on the Internet, without any luck. When I got the Belkin it all worked. I was elated.

My advice to those having problems, and if you can, buy what works. Read the posts here and everywhere. It will save you tremendous amounts of time if you do. I would have saved myself about 2 months of aggravation trying to get Airport to work.

Oh, if you just want to connect to the Internet, the USB Asus WL-167 WLAN Adapter works great (using ToH V2).

Had to change my HP ethernet card.

Well, just found out that SURECOM EP-320X-R (Realtek chipset) works just fine.
Remember, if you use this card, DO NOT USE ANY NETWORK CARD PATCHES.

Any idea on Intel 82566DC-2 Gigabit Ethernet? Doesn't working now.....

My Gateway MT6821 has a builtin Ethernet card, a Intel 88E8038, which was repaired by changing the device & vendor ids in IONetworkingFamily.kext, Info.plist. But the Mini PCI-e, Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG was DOA. So I ordered a Dell True Wireless 1490 from eBay for $13 including shipping, I installed the new card but osx86 didn't see it. (I should mention that at this point I already had successfully installed iATKOS). So I backed up my files and wrote down what I had done to fix various issues and dumped the HDD and reloaded 10.5.1 with my peripherals, i.e the ethernet cable and the new wireless card connected, and after reboot I checked my network preferences and there was the ethernet and wireless already there. Then I checked the Networkpreferences.plist and it assigned Atheos, driver info not the brcm4311 driver info. So long story short I don't know what to do from here. Help… wacko.gif

Is there any way to get my Netgear WG111v2 (with Realtek RTL8187L Chipset) working with Leopard?

Thank you so much!

EDIT: BTW: If it isn't working, then buy a "USB Asus WL-167 WLAN Adapter" and then no need to worry?

hi,

i have spent 150$ bought these cards and none worked for me.
i use 10.5.1 leopard iAtkos on LG laptop with intel pro 3945ABG

1). 3Com officeConnect
2). D-Link DWL G630 rev E2 ver 5.0
3). NetGear wg111t
4). Edimax 7318 USG
5). Edimax EW-7108PCG

i tried RALink drivers, drivers that came with the Nic, athorus drivers available here, methods on this site, none work,

the only thing i was able to do is get my PCMCIA slot (Texas Instruments xx12) working,
i can see cards being plugged in and i can power them off,
in all cards i can see in gray (disabled) the words "Unkown card vendor"
the only card that display its type and chipset is the netgear (i kept it the others i returned)

so what do i do? is there any procedure to activate wifi?

any thing beside plug+install driver+fix permissions+pray that i didnt do?

thanks ahead,
ShayBC.

I hope this hasn't been stated before, but I just picked up an AirLink101 AWLH6080 from Fry's Electronics for $20, and with the driver from RaLink, I have full N capability with my AirPort Extreme. Just thought I'd let everyone know. smile.gif Just use the RaLink software provided, and it works just amazing.

Oh, running Kalyway w/ MBR, 10.5.1, dual booting with Ubuntu. Don't know if that helps at all.

I installed iATKOS with patch for no-core CPUs and the internet works fine in a
Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC,
but didnt work in my MotherBoard network port, is a SiS, from Asus P4S800D

Anybody know of a way to get the Atheros L1 Gigabit Ethernet Controller working in 10.5.1 Kalyway? It's the onboard NIC for the Asus P5KPL-VM motherboard...or for that matter, the Dlink DFE-538TX?

Update:

Ok, I have finally figured out how to get the D-Link DFE-538TX Card to work!

I'm now using Kalyway's 10.5.1 as it seems to be quicker on my system than iATKOS.
Anyways, I remembered that when I had an AMD, I was using tubgirl's 10.4.10 release and I was using the same card in my system with no problems. So I took the ViaRhine.kext from the tubgirl release and installed it on my current system and well...I'm typing from Leopard now smile.gif

Andre_Terabyte have you had any issues regarding the network not working sometimes?

Please help, I my default wireless card was a Intel 3945 which we don't have drivers for yet so I replaced it with a Dell True Wireless 1490 which has Broadcom 4311 chipset, should work out of the box but Leo gives it the wrong driver in the NetworkInterfaces.plist, see below.

<dict>
<key>BSD Name</key>
<string>en1</string>
<key>IOBuiltin</key>
<true/>
<key>IOInterfaceType</key>
<integer>6</integer>
<key>IOInterfaceUnit</key>
<integer>2</integer>
<key>IOMACAddress</key>
<data>

</data>
<key>IOPathMatch</key>
<string>IOService:/AppleACPIPlatformExpert/PCI0@0/AppleACPIPCI/P0P3@1C,2/IOPCI2PCIBridge/ethernet@0/AirPort_Athr5424ab/AtherosM35abInterface</string>

I don't know what to do now. So I'll take any help. Thanks guys & gals!!

macgirl
if <string>en1</string>

should be
<key>IOInterfaceUnit</key>
<integer>1</integer>

if en2 then <integer>2</integer>

if en3 then <integer>3</integer>

if en0 then <integer>0</integer>

and so on...

joeythefish
Thanks for the fast reply, I didn't see that, it was like that cause I was screwing around with the NetworkInterfaces.plist. Anyway, I just reloaded iATKOS and this time I did not select the IONetworkingFamily.kext that is on the install disk. After I rebooted it was going through the question & answer phase and it knew recognized the Dell True Wireless 1490 as a Airport card. So we live and learn do we, I just seem to learn this stuff slower at times.

Has anybody got the Marvell 8056 flowing at full gigabit speed 1000x, not just at 100x? Mine dies when I force it to run at 1000x speed.

hi,

i have returned to the store and gave the "Edimax 7318 USG"
another try and it works, all i had to do is d/l RALink drivers for 10.5 and plug it in AFTER the system was up otherwise just plug it out and plug it back in, the RALink utility will auto launch.

known issues: slow upload (cant even send mail) and the replugin after boot.

hope this helps someone

I have a Braodcom 57xx in my Dell Optiplex GX280. I did the fix of putting the updated AppleBCM5751Ethernet.kext in the extensions folder and now OSX see's the card and gets and ip address. However my mac address is still all 0's. I follow the instructions to manually define the mac address and when I hit enter, it locks up the pc. So I'm stuck since this pc is behind a switch that requires a mac address to forward to.

Hey, I have a Dell PC running Kalyway's 10.5 install. My network card is Intel® 82566DC Gigabit Platform LAN Connect (Or that is what SIW gave me from windows) and it is not working at all.

Internet is the last thing I need to have a complete installation of Leopard, so if anyone has insight, I would be very grateful. Thank you!

My onboard nVidia MAC Lan 10/100/1000mbps on my MSI K8n Neo works fine but you have to have it disabled in the bios while you do the initial OSX setup. Then you can re-enable it and it works fine. The reason is unknown.

This is a more expensive solution, but I was able to order an Atheros 5008 a/b/g/n mini-pcie card (from ebay) and plug it into my hackintosh by using a PCI Express to Mini-PCIe adapter:

http://www.orbitmicro.com/global/pciexpres...pter-p-771.html

(I did a google search and there were only two companies offering this adapter and this link has the cheapest)

The total cost was about $140, but now I'm able to connect to Apple Airport Extreme 802.11N router at 5ghz. The Atheros card reports as Airport, and no drivers were required to connect it to the adapter. Just make sure you order 3 antennas that work at the 5ghz range (my wireless came with the wires). I live in a area with several wireless networks so I needed to move to a higher band to avoid the interference. I also order the Time Capsule so I will be using it for Time Machine backups with the other macs in the house.

This solution is for those that want to have their hackintoshes compatible with the airport extreme at the higher frequency. I don't believe there are any pci/pci express 802.11N adapters that currently go into the 5ghz range, especially compatible with macs.

Running Kalyway 10.5.1 and the D-Link DWA-542 works great no patching needed and is recognized as being compatible with wireless N. I have another hardwire NIC and it is the Intel 82558 and it also works out of box with no patching needed. My setup is a Dell Dimension 3000. I hope that helps some people out there looking for a new PCI wireless NIC that needs no patching. tongue.gif
