Curious to see if there has been any progress made on this little corner of the soundcard world - specifically the VIA Envy24HT-S (24-bit, 192 kHz; interfaces: three output I2S/AC-links, two input I2S/AC-links)? As few might know, a number of professional sound cards (as well as a couple of consumer cards) use the Envy 24 chip and I amongst others am aching to put it to good use with OSX86 and its glorious variety of musical software.

If there's been any progress or insight into a working kext, I'd love to know. ESI-Pro actually have a driver for OSX which fails to work in OSX86 of course. They have done their research as any good company and have stated their reason for not creating an OSX86 driver - being that Intel Mac's don't and never will have standard PCI slots they don't see reason to create a driver.

Keeping in mind that an OSX driver exists, it shouldn't really be all that difficult to simply modify it into x86. Then again my knowledge of programming is close to zero, so I may be wrong, but sure as heck makes me regret giving up learning programming years ago.

Anyway, if anyone has heard anything, please do respond in here smile.gif

I'm in the Envy boat too... M-Audio has drivers for the Revolution 7.1, but I don't know if they work under OSx86, since I've got a slightly different card. Under Linux Envy cards work perfectly though... maybe some people could port the drivers or so?
Pag232
new driver released
http://www.download.esi-audio.com/?p=6&g=1&l=en
ver. 2.1 (universal)
Panel works and i can see esi-audio device in sound setup, but nothing works sad.gif

any ideas?
Funky frank
Nice! This driver could also work for other Envy24 cards like Maudio Audiophile 2496!

I have the same problem: The driver loads, the device is shown, midi works. Also output is shown in audio software, but I cannot hear anything. Maybe the channel numbers are swapped? There are 6 output channels. The Julia panel does not work, but maybe you do not need it.
Funky frank
The ESI1010 driver accepts the Audiophiule 2496 card.... I tried all outputs, nothing.
wxxhrt
On an Envy24PT(onboard a Shuttle SN25P mainboard), the Julia Panel works but everything is greyed out, nothing shows in system profiler under audio also nothing in audio/midi setup. Just tried the ESI1010 driver no luck ther either(PPC driver?)
Has anyone managed to get any audio out of this chipset- im not bothered about all of the ins/outs spdif etc- just want to play somemp3's smile.gif Might it be possible to use drivers for another chipset thats similar in order to get some sounds out?
DaemonES
Hey, don't forget to remove subvendor id check, from Info.plist, is other case driver WILL NOT load correctly. Remove two lines under this:
<key>IOPCIPrimaryMatch</key>
<string>0x17241412</string>

Have any Juli@ owner sound with this driver?
wxxhrt
Right, so i did that and fixed the permissions- the julia panel still is greyyed out but esi audio device shows up in audio+midi settings, i can play with settings there but it does nothing. System Preferences -Sound shows the Esi Audio Device as having no inputs or outputs which i guess is where the problem lies

Maybe its because im using a chip built into the mainboard and not a pci card? Anyhow that might or might be useful to someone else
DaemonES
wxxhft it will not work for you, because your onboard device uses AC97 codec, and Juli@ custom DAC', ADC' from Wolfson and others.
wxxhrt
Thanks for your help DaemonES im new to all of this,

taken from: http://www.via.com.tw/en/products/audio/co...llers/envy24pt/

For the Pro-motherboard market the VIA Envy24PT in combination with an AC '97 codec like VIA's VT1616 realizes an excellent balance of analog and digital audio connections.

So im actually after a driver for a vt1616 chipset which it turns out doesnt exist, would messing with an existing ac'97 driver work or is the driver youre writing gonna include support for this? I might just have to get a new card smile.gif
bottleNeckKiller
Hope somebody can come up with a solution for my Revolution 7.1 (Envy24). So far my card had been collecting dust.
Funky frank
I really dont understand why the driver does not work. A UAD1 pci driver does work for example.
sherilyn
we must do something!! )))
frizbot
I have a Chaintech AV-710. Incredible card, very cheap as well. This is also the VIA Envy24HT-S chipset. The least I can do is bump this thread. If anyone can get it working, I'll buy a second one to get off the USB audio that I use now with OSX86, and thank them profusely.
Funky frank
So the driver seem to work. But no audio. Can someone try input and check input meter?

The Julia mixer app does not accept the driver. Maybe this is the problem. Are there tools like Regmon and Filemon also available for osx?
sherilyn
i think some tools exist))) is it works on real mac ?
freethemac
UP UP

Tried julia too, but does not work, we really need a solution here
sherilyn
when comes new juli@ driver??
pixelshaders
try juli@ driver for delta 66

need to change Ven_1412 Dev_1712 and Subsys_D6321412 to make it load, but end up panic sad.gif
sherilyn
i think ... it's just need some time.... leopard is coming soon so i guess ESI is will realese new driver))
sjoer
New Intel macs dont have fysical PCI busses to plug cards in only PCI-Express wink.gif

Anyway it would be nice if we could device a way to get this chipset going, im gonna install gentoo and try see if I can fabricate something out of the ALSA modules..... (anyone ideas?)

PS: Ive got M-Audio Audiophile 192
maakus
hi there
so are there any news on creating juli@ driver for macos?
unfortunately im not a programmer, im a sound engineer, however i'll try to contribute if i can. maybe install macos and try to do something with my juli@?
anyways can anyone say how hard is it to create such driver? absolutle impossible? only Juli@ developers can create that driver or any good programmer can get enough information for making the driver? maybe its easier just to buy a second soundcard?
maakus
hm. i wrote an email to the developers and was VERY surprised when they replied me with a link on teir obvious driver download page with the MacOS drivers there.
So everything okay? I can move to macos with my juli@ and have fun in Logic8? anyone used that already?

Hey guys, I recently bought a Maya44 Esi-Pro sound card. I've donwloaded the drivers from the vendor site (http://download.esi-audio.com/?w=esi&p=14&g=1&l=en) but when Ive installed, and reboot, i've got kernel panic.

Obviously, the driver is made for Macs, but the driver has been released, and maybe somebody can take it as a start point.

Another great news is that there are new drivers por Juli@ at:

http://download.esi-audio.com/?w=esi&p...mp;g=1&l=en

and for ESP1010 at:

http://download.esi-audio.com/?w=esi&p...mp;g=1&l=en.

So...I'm looking for a way to do something to get my maya44 to work.

Regards,

Biondysman.

anyone have links for how/to's of using linux dumps to compile custom drivers? I'm also interested in getting various cards like julia and rme cards working on osx86.

Hi, just quickly scaned trough this topic and have one question..

The Envy24 HT (onboard of a Shuttle SN25P) chipset, is it possible to get any form of sound out of it?

btw, i'm using MacOSx 10.5.1 (kernel 9.1.0)

I've tried editing the Info.p in the AppleAC97Audio.kext (/AppleAC97AudioVia.kext) but no results, it just gives me kernel panics...

No more information for the moment ?

Hello Reaper,
thank you very much for your interest in our products.
As Juli@ is a PCI card and there is no Intel Macintosh System available withPCI slots,
no Intel compatibility is required for the driver.

Does the Juli@-Mac-v2_1 driver support for OSX 10.5.1 Intel Ver????

So, anyone got an ENVY24HT card working yet? -- Have an M-Audio Revolution 5.1 that gets no love on my hackintosh sad.gif

^^Need this driver too^^
Mamas
Hello. I have Juli@ too. We need to do something. I suggest writing more and more letters to ESI Auio support asking for driver. We bought their product, and there is just our business where we wanna use it. they should create a posibility to use it in any system.
DaemonES
They declare list of Operation Systems, that they will support. If you chose another OS, it's your problem. And this is not ESI responsibility. If you want to use Juli@ in Minix 3, does ESI have to write drivers for Minix? smile.gif)))))))))))))))))))))))
Mamas
I wrote a letter to their support, and whait for their answer. More systems will be compatible, more buyers they have.
DaemonES
Who cares about Hackintosh users? this is not market for a large company. They spent money to pay salary for several programmers for several moths. This is not cheap.
Mamas
Do you work in ESI or smth? In what side ar you? :]

Can someone crack or whatever people do with the drivers to run on iatkos? I'd love to use garageband together with my guitar. That was the purpose of installing iatkos at first place, but juli@ is not working ;/

Weird, I thought this card could work on OSX intel but I was wrong sad.gif so I think the only two companies that work on OSX intel are RME and Lynx, correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi (I'm new here),

If there is enough interest, I can probably make an Envy24HT driver that works for a couple of M-Audio, ESI and Terratec cards. I have written this driver for another operating system, so it should be doable. Any donation (after it's working of course!) is welcome!
Please send me an email or post here if you are interested.
enb14
Hey that would be cool, a lot of guys here already have those cards and other guys like me are waiting for drivers to get our cards.
killer4290
Well, i have a juli@ and i guess i'm not the only one that would want to get the juli@ to work with osx x86...
So, audiodriverwriter, if you could do something for us i think it would be really appreciated !
kai920
I would be interested in the driver as well. I have a dead SN25P which has the Envy 24 audio chipset.

(On the other hand, a new power supply for the SN25P will cost about US$100, so maybe I am better off doing a "budget" build)
mengpo
Hi there,

I would be interested in this driver as well. Audiowriter if you're up to, go ahead biggrin.gif
Thanks !!!!

hi audiodriverwriter!

here the same.. interested in driver too!! can you tell us your situation about compiling?

thankyou!!

Audidriver,

I would love to see a driver for this card!!

Please let us know if we can help in some way!

TIA

Hi,

Could you please take a look at the Envy24PT chipset as well. i've been looking for a sollution for over a year now without any results. what i've got is : VIA Envy24PT w/ VIA VT1617A Codec, Wolfson WM8728 DAC - 8 Channel. This is an onboard sound chipset in a Shuttle SN25P XPC. there is a wiki on this chipset, maybe it will help : http://gentoo-wiki.com/VIA_Vinyl_Envy24PT

Thank you for your time and help
