well, i've always had a doubt, and it is what is the difference between a OS and an update

like XP to Vista
or Tiger to Leopard and stuff like that, i mean, as newbie as i am i see no difference, except but a few new or improved apps and skins, but what is the difference between the OS's?? Vista as far as i know has new look, gadgets, desktop search, Leopard has new apps, and so.

But what is the improvement of the OS?
non sequitur
An OS is anything that is the base for your computer. it is an Operating System, so basically, it is programming that has a user interface and is what all programs are run through. An Os is like Xp, OS X, or Vista.
An update would be like going from OS X version 10.4.6 to OS X version 10.4.7 or from going from XP with service pack one to XP with service pack 2. updates just update the OS.
