For all those people who cant get there USB 2.0 to function higher than 12mb sec.

Heres what you have to do (or at least what i did.)

goto: Apple USB Developers Page Download the latest drivers. I think they say 10.4.7 for Intel when you mount the dmg do not install the log version only install the one that doesnt say log. After they install let it reboot and your good to go.

For me the best way to install this was after I updated to 10.4.7 I think when you go from .6 to .7 the updated breaks the drivers and you have to re-install them again. You can use them in .6 but as i mentioned once you goto .7 you need to re-install.

Oh and by the way this will also fix the problem with USB Keyboards/Mice/Drives not working properly after each reboot.

Another note: I obviously didnt make these drivers but was just lucky enough to find them.

no problem! glad i could help!

To board administrators: I think this info should be stickied since theres quite a few people that may be looking for this as well.
dakine
Thanks for the info, I finally got USB working with this update.

I wonder if this affects front Row in any way when replacing IOUSBFamily kext.

Thanks for the info.
TheBigBentley
as far as controlling front row from what i can tell it doesnt. Although I cant fully use front row since for some reason the main menu doesnt display its icons with my graphics card. However I am still able to navigate all the menus based on its audio cues using the keyboard without any problem.

Hi,
I've been trying to install MacOS 10.4.6 (HOTiSO) on my PC, which is an MSI K8MM-V with a VIA K8M800 chipset. However, none of the USB devices work in the installer, and I can't use the mouse or the keyboard. Can I get them to work using these drivers? If yes, then how?
Help would be greatly appreciated. biggrin.gif

Have the same problem, but in my case switching keyboard to another USB port helped. I have in my PC 4 USBs - 2 fron and 2 rear. If I switch keyb front -> front USB - it do not help - I have to switch front -> rear. After it recognised keyboard it works fine until next reboot.
Jonty
Thanks, I'll try that and if I get MacOS working, I'll install the driver this thread is about (which, as far as I can gleam from the other replies, will fix the problem) biggrin.gif
TheBigBentley
I had the same problem with my USB ports as well. these drivers should resolve that issue.
Jonty
Well, I've got MacOS installed using some PS/2 stuff I found in the cupboard! happymac.GIF
Hopefully once I install this file everything will work fine. biggrin.gif
Thanks for your help graduated.gif

They all seem to have "log" in the filename, I must not be looking in the right place. Where do I find the 10.4.7 without "log"?
dakine
Download the IOUSBFamily-256.4.2 Intel-log.dmg, then when you mount the dmg you will find two packages, one without the log at the end of the filename, that is the one that I used.
Jonty
Now everything USB-y works fine, I still have to fix my AC97 sound (the kext I found didn't change anything) but other than that OSX is running swimmingly. star_smile.gif

Hi.
Great find there. I found a problem, having AMD processor with a VIA chipset it doesn't run at USB 2.0 speeds, yet it states the current device speed. Still waiting a hell lot to mount a 250GB USB 2.0 HD.
horst.schlemmer
I've just installed Mac OS X 10.4.6 and used the latest apple usb driver to make my usb work on my Asus A8V, it just works fine. Ok, i guessi dont have usb2.0 speed, but i dont even have such devices, so its not a problem for me...
madim
This may be a solution for my problem. Pratically the system (mac os x 10.4.6 tiger) doesn't reaches the emi A26 and often when i connect also my mouse usb the system return a too high energy request from the usb hub. May be a sub port problem that 10.4.7 update resolve?

Thanks
Mario
horst.schlemmer
@madim

Is your usb-hub active or passive (in other words, has it got an external power supply) ? Some usb devices are grabbing more energy, than usual usb ports are providing. Maybe you should plug the mouse into a port directly on your motherboard.

I installed the USB patch soon after I update to 10.4.7. I didn't want to speak too soon on whether or not it fixed my USB mouse problem always loosing connection.

It's been a while now and my USB devices hasen't acted up. It's great not having to unplug and plug the USB mouse every 10min. Now the problem is I lost Front Row. So unless front row is fixed, it wont work after applying the USB update patch.
eclipse
Installed the USB patch soon after updating to 10.4.7, however I saw no change. Any USB 2.0 devices are still limited to 12 Mb/s.

System: AOpen Mini PC MP915-X
Intel 915GM chipset
Pentium M 1.6 GHz

Any ideas?

*Edit
Tried using IOUSBFamily.kext from 10.4.3 installation DVD as well - no luck. Still locked at 12 MB/sec

Are USB audio devices affected by this update? I have a Logitech USB Premium Headset 350 which needed "Soundblaster USB Support" during an install from JaS 10.4.6. If I'm not mistaken, "Soundblaster USB Support" installed IOUSBFamily from 10.4.5.

Thanks,

Thanks for posting this, fixed the issues I had instantly! I think it may have been caused from trying to compile the open-source kernel rather than 10.4.7 update in my case..

Didnt do anything for me. !!! still need to disable USB Keyboard / Mouse support in Bios or i have to Disconnect and Reconnect to get USB Keyboard / Mouse to function.?

I was all excited about this fix as well, had this problem since 10.4.3, 10.4.1 was only osx86 which USB worked as normal.
eclipse
For those that are still having problems (including me), would it be possible for someone to post the 10.4.1 IOUSBFamily.kext since that was the last one that seemed to work? The 10.4.1 install disc doesn't seem available anymore since it is over a year old.

It would be greatly appreciated if someone could find it.

I dont know why but after apply the patch, my system still appear like this:

CODE
[b]USB Bus:[/b]

  Host Controller Location:    Expansion Slot
  Host Controller Driver:    AppleUSBUHCI
  PCI Device ID:    0x24d4
  PCI Revision ID:    0x0002
  PCI Vendor ID:    0x8086
  Bus Number:    0x3d

Kensington USB/PS2 Wheel Mouse:

  Version:    1.00
  Bus Power (mA):    500
  Speed:    Up to 1.5 Mb/sec
  Manufacturer:    Kensington
  Product ID:    0x102a
  Vendor ID:    0x047d

USB MULTIMEDIA KEYBOARD:

  Version:    1.10
  Bus Power (mA):    500
  Speed:    Up to 1.5 Mb/sec
  Manufacturer:    NOVATEK
  Product ID:    0x7008
  Vendor ID:    0x04a5

That mean my best speed still only 1.5Mb/sec
Why anybody told that after install the patch, the speed is: 12Mb/sec?
Any idea?
Rammjet
Input devices such as keyboards and mice operate at 1.5 MB/sec. Faster devices operate at 12 Mb/sec or 480 Mb/sec.

From usb.org:

CODE
All USB 2.0-compliant systems, such as laptop, notebook, and desktop computers, must by definition support all three data rates: 1.5 Mb/s, 12 Mb/s, and 480 Mb/s. The nature of peripherals, however, creates a situation that is a little less clear. One class of peripherals may be available with either the fast data-transfer rate of 480 Mb/s or the slower data-transfer rate of 12 Mb/s. Included are:

    *
      digital cameras
    *
      CD-ROM burners
    *
      DVD drives
    *
      motherboards
    *
      flash card readers
    *
      adapter cards
    *
      scanners
    *
      other products

The second class of peripherals operates at slower speeds because these peripherals do not need fast data-transfer rates. (And if they supported such performance, it would add considerably to their cost to the consumer.) These include:

    * joysticks
    * keyboards
    * mice
    * other products

They operate at the two lower data-transfer rates of either 1.5 Mb/s or 12 Mb/s.

To see the faster speed displayed, you need to plug in a device capable of the higher speed.

Thanks for this tip (IOUSBFamily from 10.4.7 developper), I got my USB ports working :
- the mouse works well
- but my external hard drive works weirdly : if I plug it before booting, nothing happens. To make it works, I have to plug it in another USB port, but sometimes i doesn't work in any port.
Furthermore, It's still running at 12Mb/s I don't know why.

If anyone can help me to solve this ?
Hiro_
I did this process, but i not know as i can test if is functioned everything perfectly.

I installed the USB stuff from Apple but still no go. This is pretty much last problem (limitation) on A8n32-SLI Deluxe with X16o0 PRO.
USB doesn't work at all...

Can someone please E-mail me this dmg? Or atleast the kext if it's too big? The site appears to be down. I was hoping that this update could fix my USBhardrive from not showing up.

If you still have no usb even after you add the 10.4.7 kext, you should go into your bios and disable legacy usb support. I am running 10.4.7 with a Asus P4P800S-X and it made usb work for me. I did not even need the 10.4.7 kexts.
asapreta
how do you all measure the speed in USB on OS X?
sigxcpu
You check the System Profiler and see if the device is on "USB bus" or "High-speed bus".

Anyway, it seems that the only solution for me was to put a dummy PS2 keyboard, now I have USB 2.0.

My normal keyboard and mouse are Apple (Pro Intl Keyboard + Mighty Mouse).

Unfortunately, my MBP has gone to service for MLB replace and I'm back a member of Hackintosh community smile.gif

I have same problem...I have tried the version debug of driver the IOUSBFamily 2.2.0 /10.4.1 but don' t work

Alright, I've tried kexts from 10.4.1, .4.3, and .4.7: none of which enable usb 2.0. This leaves the bios in question. However, my AOpen MiniPC has such a dumbed down and simplified bios setup that there is no option for disabling legacy USB. And of course, there are no bios updates available from AOpen's site for this particular model. Anybody know of some 3rd party site where there could be some custom bios flashes available? This seems to be my only option left.

I'd be fine with usb 1.1 since the box has firewire as well, but I have a USB 2.0 TV tuner that I'd really like to use with it. Firewire tuners are just insanely expensive, so I'm trying to keep to a low budget.

I have the same problem that most users had before even applying the fix. Right now in order for a usb device to work correctly it has to be inserted into one usb port, taken out of that port, and then inserted again into a different usb port. Before the fix, no matter how many times a device was inserted and taken out it would only show up in the System Profiler. Disabling Legacy support it not an option in my BIOS. Any ideas?

Ok I used to have a lot of problems with USB, I kinda messed around with my 10.4.6 USB kext. Removed files, put in files. Safe to say, now my bluetooth works. Doesnt work on native 10.4.6. The only problem is that a over current message comes at bootuop which I ignore.

Anyway heres my kext.
CondoneThis
Well.... Maybe I flubbed up. censored2.gif I'm running 10.4.8, installed new drivers, not log version, for the 10.4.8 version. No USB activity, period. compress.gif Deactivated legacy. Nothing. I am considering formatting and starting back over with 10.4.6, then to 4.7. My notebook isn't being too friendly with the new update. hysterical.gif Is there anyway to just revert back to 4.7?

Thanks,

OK can anyone upload the IOUSBFamily ext. for 10.4.8. I was attempting to do... something, but being as noob as I am NO USB WORKS. Thought I backed it up, but who knows. Please H-E-L-P.

Kust try the kext I attached. Maybe it will work. The 10.4.8 kext, you can get by opening the update with pacifist.

I have been trying to get my usb driverrs working for ages, I am running 10.4.6,
I downloaded the 10.4.7 driver and it installed the pack (not log as you said)and it installed as an update, and just like that all my usb ports are now working...
Awesome thanks

Yep, my USB (on MSI k8t neo FSR mobo) is working too with the drivers from http://developer.apple.com/hardwaredrivers...d/usbdebug.html .

The kext did the job for me. No USB worked, but after installing the new kext it worked like a charm. Legacy USB support DISABLED. I tried with Logitech Control Center after that but then my mouse only worked if I changed USB port a few times after entering the OS.
My USB 2.0 hub also works.
My iPod Nano is recognized as 480Mbit/s device.

Hi, I tried this but it didn't work for me, I couldn't even install the PKG.

Currently if I boot my mac disk I have no USB keyb or mouse - so can't do anything at all.

So I booted in VMware and downloaded the file for 10.4.7, run the PKG without 'log' in the name, and I get the USB installer program up, however after about 15 seconds of running the mouse cursor changes to the spinning colour-wheel and stays like it. I can't do anything with the installer then, even if I quit it and try again the same happens. Help?
jan_187
Do other installers work for you, or do they all hang? If they all hang, you need to use amd_enabler.zip , look for it with the searchfunction of the forums. That will fix the hanging installer issue. Then you can install the pkg.
