Full Version: What 'The X Labs' offers to developers

Welcome to 'The X Labs' - a haven for developers and place to make your life a whole lot easier.

We've talked with a lot of driver and utility developers on this forum who have told us several things that would make their lives a lot easier. First, they need a place to get feedback. Secondly, many have asked for an easy way to notify users of updates. Finally, they've told us that they need an easy way to involve the community either in bug reporting or open source development.

Here's where we can help. This site, from the very beginning, has supported the work of small time developers in whatever way we could. Now that we have the forum and technical infrastructure ready, we want to be able to use it for your benefit.

You can use all of the following you'd like:

1) A dedicated subforum in 'The X Labs' for you to use for whatever purposes you like - discussion, bug squashing, etc. You choose who you want to moderate this forum and you yourself have full control over what's posted. Nothing to install, no update headaches - we'll take care of the technical stuff, you just use it like you see fit.

2) A blog set up just for you. By the beginning of July we'll have a blogging system integrated into the forum so that you can keep your users up-to-date on the progress of your OS X addition. Again, you'll have total control over how everything runs.

3) A permanent webpage (and virtually unlimited bandwidth) for you to host your drivers or applications - plus all the revenue from the Google Ads on that page. We'll give you webspace on our server for you to host and maintain a homepage for your stuff. We can even help with the html design if you'd like. You get to keep all the revenue from the tasteful Google Ads on these pages, if you'd like to have them (and since you'll be getting a lot of traffic from our forum, you will likely make at least 200-300 a year, probably a lot more). Your page will be hosted at ___________.osx86project.org or ____________.thexlabs.com

4) Technical help (and hosting) for community-based software. We'll setup and host applications to help you get feedback, such as a CVS or subversion installation or a bug tracking system.

5) Exclusive access to a developer forum where you can ask questions of the site staff or other developers on how best to maintain your project. (And wise advice is always a good thing...)

There are no catches to this at all. You won't be tied to anything and everything is obviously free. If you've already got a website setup somewhere else but would still like your own forum here, that's great.

We're launching this because we're committed to helping developers within our community spend less time worrying about the little things and spend more time doing what you do best - develop and explore.

Please feel free to contact me via PM if you have any questions!

This sounds absolutly wonderful. I was about to release a beta version of CPUThrottler2 (app for control of ACPICPUThrottle as seen in this thread http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?sh...pic=14915&st=0). The original is also in this thread. I was going to make a new thread in the Drivers forum with the first release, but now i think i might wait till this is all set up. How does it all work exactly? As in...how do i apply smile.gif hehe

Seriously, this is a great idea tho, and i give you mad props Mash, cause you are building an absolutly awesome community here smile.gif

Actually, it'll be open to everyone once we get it up and running. We just wanted developers to know that they'll have access too for whatever they need!

Oh... In that case, I retract what I said in my previous post.

Man, that'll be quite cool actually... My own OSx86 blog biggrin.gif

Sounds good. I'd love to see the EFI work in progress myself and Bofors have been working on moved to the xlabs.

This will definately go a long way in helping to build a strong community here.
munky
agreed. threads like the EFI one are too important to risk them being overwhelmed by all the other white noise.

hurrah for x-labs! biggrin.gif

The MacEFIx86 Project forum has been set up and we are now "open for business". Aside from pursuing the established goals, our next work order will be to recruit more hardcore developers like RogaBean to work on EFI here.

That rogabean guy... he's insane and should prolly sleep at some point. heh.

3 projects going strong so far.

BTW, I just wanted to let all potential developers know that all you need to do to get started is shoot me a pm/email! We'll do whatever we can to help make your life easier... there's no paperwork or anything formal to take care of. We're pretty laid back around here. smile.gif
