Well...
I've got my 10.4.5 working really smooth...

Using the onboard GMA 900 or 950 (not sure) card it works like a charm.,.. but for one problem:
whenever the Harddisk reads (SATA) the screen kind of "flickers" ... it's a LCD...
I guess there must be some IRQ interference or similiar thing???
no boot.plist mod...

1) HOW TO GET rid of this??

then I thought I'll put in a ATI X300SE...
works right out of the box... no flickering... QE and CI Supported...
but had to set the resolution manually by modding the boot.plist thing...

HOWEVER, I got a some mouse tearing (when scrolling or clicking)... it's annoying...
I tried mouspose ... which works, but delivers a flickering cursor and is not really a "solution". ..

2) Any way to get rid of the tearing? how about the 10.4.6 update??

thanks

bochenn do it like this. Download calisto driver to desktop

Open terminal

cd ~/Desktop
cd Callisto_latest

Edit CallistoHAL.kext/Content/Info.plist (right click show package contents) and use text edit

Replace PCI device ID with yours under the IOPCIMatch key your will be 5b60 same as mine.

In Terminal

sudo mv Callisto* /System/Library/Extensions/
sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/Callisto*
sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/Callisto*
sudo rm -f /Library/Preferences/com.apple.window*
rm -f ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.window*
rm -f ~/Library/Preference/ByHost/com.apple.window*
rm -f ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.pref*

Remove any display settings in your com.apple.Boot.plist fileThis is in /Library/Preferences/SystemPreferences/
( only if you have editied it b4 )For example: remove
<key>Graphics Mode</key>
<string>1280x1024x32</string>

Look in /System/Library/Extensions folder for ATIRadeon9700GA.plugin Edit its Info.plist, under IOProviderClass key change IONDRVFramebuffer to CallistoFB

Back in terminal type

sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions.mkext
sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache

Reboot and enjoy.

Thanks for this vital step. I was preparing to settle for either QE/CI at 1280x1024@60hz, or 1600x1200@85hz with no acceleration. Now I can have both! Thanks again!
macprodan
after you add it i will look like this

<key>IOPCIMatch</key>
<string>0x5b601002&0xffffffff</string>

A little off topic, but anyway.

You having issues with sound, heres a tip:

Install the Apple Developer tools, then use the correct AppleHDA.kext (from 10.4.3) and it will work (perhaps after a restart). The key is that the dev tools need to be installed. I have the same motherboard and it didn't work until i installed them.

Worked a charm for me, thanks guys! still got mouse tearing though sad.gif
quixos
timsin, MouseLocator is a far superior solution for the tearing than the old one. download and install it. you can figure out how to make it always on and tweak the other settings.

i've attached MouseLocator-ShadowMouse.png in a zip. unzip it, and place MouseLocator.png (renamed) in your Pictures folder.

playing some games that don't use a mouse, you have to turn it off. in other games like Quake 4, the mouse isn't a problem for me.

no flickering in iTunes visualizations etc.

this will re-enable beamsync. if you've tweaked it off. but if you've switched to ATI, you won't notice it at all. in games, beamsync isn't used.
