Hi,

I know there are some laptop -t60- users whom make their x1400 works with a highest resolution than 1024x768 or 1152x864(with boot.plist solution), my question is: Does anybody with a Dell 9400 with x1400 17" lcd display has obtained more than 1024x768 or 1152x864 in the built-in display?
Regards

I have the same problem. I can force my resolution to either 800x600 or 1024x768. Anything higher that I set in Boot.plist will default to 1024x768.

hey guys. im using the 10.4.8 jas repack. i can install everything ok, but when i tell my 9400 inspiron to start from the USB drive, only the cursor appears. when i start up off the cd and try and specify a startup disc, the usb doesnt come up. its only comes up when i have the option to install. ive checked the info in the disk utility and it says its bootable. is there something i am missing? how can i get the usb volume to work as a startup volume? ive tried a couple different partition types as well. Can i still use the usb from the boot CD? i thought i might have read something about -s (single user mode). what are the commands to boot? can i make changes from terminal AFTER i boot into the macosx setup? thanks!

devilhood:

with your STAC9200, are you getting the speakers to mute when headphones are plugged in? do you get full mute at all?
lngarrett
Good question gburnham - I am having the same issue.
devilhood
Unfortunately, auto-muting the speakers isn't implement for the HDA driver, but I am sure Taruga is working towards eventually solving this problem.
lngarrett
devilhood do you know if this is safe to use on a e1705?

Anyone have any luck getting the SD card reader to work on e1705?
devilhood
Insomnia should work, it just prevents sleep completely.

SD Card has no Mac driver or hack currently available.

Hey guys,

Just wanted to say thanks. I have used this guide and it's many different links to get OSX 10.4.8 dual booting with XP on my 9400. All pretty easy in the end.

Only things that aren't working are
SD Card reader,
some of the front buttons (volume and mute work)
3945 wireless
and I'm only running single core.

Otherwise it is all running sweet. I'll be keeping an eye on the appropriate threads for the above mentioned items, especially the wireless one.

Just a couple of questions..
Is there a way to get the touch pad scrollbars working?
and how do I setup the time to work without setting the hardware clock to GMT. It's messing with my windows clock...

Anyway,
Thanks again
lngarrett
I got my ethernet working, and I could access the internet fine. I booted up today and couldn't get the internet to work anymore. It says that my connection "is be manually managed and may not work." However, I am using DHCP so I'm not sure why it is saying this. When I look at the settings it shows an IP address (although it doesn't look like the one I usually get or the one I get when I boot in windows). When I boot in windows it works fine so it isn't a network issue.

Has anyone else experienced this, or atleast have any troubleshooting ideas?
kevinosx
Yes, this happens to me when I restart from windows, if I shut down the computer after I'm done in windows then restart it, it works fine everytime. Weird but for some reason windows keeps control (I think) of the ethernet card if you restart from it.

I found a way to fix the screen stretching on the Atix1400 (and pretty much any screen stretching) on Dell Laptop's.. it runs at 1400 x 1050 res in 4:3 mode so theres black bars on the sides but hey it's not stretched so its ok til the smart folks find a solution to the res prob smile.gif. ANYWAYS on to my solution...

Load up the bios when u boot up the Laptop and in the menu go down to Video, then go to lcd expansion and shut it off. and thats it smile.gif, it will stop stretching all the images to fit the screen now. your res on windows will be the same but if you used a lower res the the max in windows it will be smaller. I use 1680 x 1050 as my res in windows so it fills the whole screen.

it doesnt auto res so you obviously have to do the force res thing in the boot.plist

i also have a question, since i have a Dell e1505, i have the x1400 on here and along with that i have the Gm945 laying dormant on the mother board. i wanted to know, is it was possible to use the Integrated Gfx instead of the x1400 Card ?

Dedtime,
I don't think it is possible, as I once contacted Dell customer support with that very questions and the answer they gave was, "If you take out the upgraded video chip, the motherboard wil then use the intergrated one." However, I know some manufactures do have that capacity (Sony, I think). So, my guess is that Dell's can't because of the BIOS, but I would be happy to be proved wrong...
Dedtime
ah dam haha o well, at least i got my screen to work in FS mode instead of stretched widescreen, ill just wait til some1 figures out how to get widescreen resolutions for the x1400 smile.gif

I have just updated the guide with minor information regarding 10.4.9 as well as a whole new section for those wanting to customize their System Profiler page.

Check out the attachment to see what I mean wink.gif

Replace your kernel with the DaemonES one.
I updated the guide on how to do this smile.gif

Hello everyone.I have updated new Jas 10.4.9 pack. Now i have kernel version 8.9.1.this kernel support Sleep mode, but now i get stuttering sound, and system is slower. But those who whant sleep mode, can update to kernel 8.9.1:)
OSX-Fanatic
sleep mode or better sound and faster system... mh, wondering whats more importent to most of the people around here...
devilhood
Sound works fine on 8.9.1 for me, but sleep mode does not activate when I close the lid.
If I hit the power button to force it, the laptop internal screen goes blank but it does not actually power down anything *shrugs*

Thanks for the guide, Devilhood! I've just purchased a laptop like yours and the guide was a big big big help in getting OSX running smoothly!

Which NVidia driver do you use?I use Titan.kext, maybe you use NvidiaEFI driver that cause problem with sleep mode.
Sound is working fine, but stuttering sometime.
Jaco
mmm... msh - what Video card do you have and what laptop, I have the E1705 with the integrated 945 videocard - upgraded to new kernel but sleep does not work! Anybody else got this working?? Maybe I did something wrong.
devilhood
Sound works fine for me with no stuttering whatsoever.

I'm using Titan.kext and the very latest auto-fsb Netkas kernel- I have no idea how you managed to get sleep mode working.
Can you confirm if you are using the very latest Darwin 8.9.1 kernel? you can do this by opening up Terminal.app and typing: uname -a

Which 10.4.8 kexts are you using for your 10.4.9 installation? as I actually updated mine manually, not using JaS' combo update.
Perhaps there is something you have done differently that has allowed your sleep mode to function correctly.

I just use Jas combo update, thats all.I have Darwin 8.9.1 kernel now.

I have Dell Inspiron 9400 with Geforce 7800go card.Install with Titan.kext.I just use that upgrade pack from Jas.That upgrade my kernel to 8.9.1 and software to 10.4.9,and sleep mode is working now.

System is not slow,it was just on first boot, now itīs normal. The only thing is remaining,is Duo core support and Intel wireless. Some have no problem with Duo core with new kernel, but i donīt know how to run Duo core with 8.9.1 kernel.
devilhood
Yeah, I mentioned at the bottom of the guide regarding the dual core problem.
It only happens with particular laptop manufacturers and has something to do with the way their BIOS functions.
IBM Thinkpad and the Acer Aspire do not have dual core issues- Prasys is looking more thoroughly into the issue I believe.

Ok, I'm going to look at the kext differences for JaS' update to see if I can get sleep working.

Hello. I just bought a Dell Inspiron 9400 but I have problems with the firewire port to connect it to an M-audio 1814. I am sorry to ask in this forum about this problem on XP, but I want to know two things:

1) Do the ones who have FW 1814 or FW 410 installed running on OSX have full compatibility? (Because I can use it for playback, but when I tried to record the pannel getz freeze and it records a hum constant noise)
2) Could it be possible that this problem with the Ricoh OHCI will be solved with windows vista drivers, or is the hardware incompatible?

Again, I am sorry to bother you with this XP problem, but I donīt find another place to ask, and it seems that, you have worked a lot with this problem.
I am only trying to now if I would have to get OSX running to get the full features of my M-Audio 1814.

Thanks Again.

Sebastian.

Devilhood: Do you have a colour banding issue in 32bit? I don't know how to get rid of it sad.gif
devilhood
Yeah, it seems to be a notoriously popular issue.

Natit is supposed to solve it for a lot of people, but I tried that last night and it didn't help.

I mentioned the problem to np_ at MacVidia, so we may eventually see a new version of NvidiaEFI that resolves this issue.

My M-Audio FW 410 works perfectly for me on OS X with low latencies, both when I play and record.

Upgrade your BIOS to the very latest A07 as Dell supposedly addressed this issue due to a large amount of complaints.
Also, I suggest reading through the earlier pages of this thread as this issue was brought up a few times.
There is a specific way of fixing the issue under XP, involving some manual registry editing that forces the Firewire to function with maximum speed capabilities.
Bebu
Thanks Devilhood. After reading all the thread Iīve tried to solve the problem, but none of the possible solutions worked for me. I hope that M-audio will release drivers for vista. A lot of people that I know use OSX in audio works, maybe I follow your guide, and I try to install it on my dell. I prefer this to sell my laptop or my M-audio 1814.

Thanks again!!! If anyone solve the kind kind of problem that I have, please post the way to deal with this.

Does anyone working on the fix for the dual core problem?
I got everything working except sleep, internal speaker not mute with headphone and cpus=1. thumbsdown_anim.gif
devilhood
The dual core problem is specifically BIOS related, so I'm guessing it wont be an easy task for any dev's out there.
The auto-speaker mute is another story altogether though, Taruga said that it would be a tough one to implement. I can't remember any specifics, but it was discussed briefly on his thread and also on the IRC.

devilhood: What file did you use with AppleHDPatcher in order to get sound? I'm having trouble getting clear audio

edit: I'm a muppet! I found the file you posted in post 142.
flibblesan
I've just used the Sigmatel codec file you pasted, and I've noticed a few problems. First one is I have absolutely no bass. It's as if the subwoofer in the laptop is not even on. Secondly, plugging in headphones does not mute the speakers.
devilhood
Those problems have been brought up before and Taruga is aware of them tongue.gif

I have no idea if they are fixable or if he intends to fix them with his next release.

Oh well, at least I've got some kind of sound at the moment. Better than nothing! And Taruga is doing a wonderful job.

I'm really happy with my new laptop so far. It's running OSX beautifully, and even better with the latest 10.4.9 kernel (solves a strange audio stuttering issue I had).

Shame I've had to set the BIOS to 1 core only sad.gif
devilhood
You don't need to disable Multi-core in BIOS, just add cpus=1 on the kernel flag key in the boot plist.

Check my guide to do it smile.gif
devilhood
I just updated the guide again with a few minor notes, corrected a mach_kernel typo thanks to dogbert75 and also sorted out the first part, explaining the whole cpu 'stuttering' issue a bit more clearly smile.gif

My only hope is Dell manage to put out a BIOS that works better with Hackintosh installations, as well as finally including full AHCI support.

Thanks for the recognition...but it wasn't necessary... just glad to help make your wonderful guide even better. I'm trying to work on a similar guide for the latitude d820, but am finding a lot of overlap (of course) and don't want to come across that I am just copying all the hard work you have put into this...
devilhood
Yeah, a lot of the Dell comps seem to be using a similar hardware-base smile.gif
Perhaps if you arrange your guide in a step by step fashion, something which I will eventually do when the Intel Wireless driver works properly, because then (with the help of Prasys) I will also put together a custom install package specifically for Inspiron users.

Cool! And if we have properly working audio, that would make one awesome install package. And perhaps the possibility of a customer 10.4.9 install DVD for Dell laptops smile.gif

did you get to work the wireless already? i have almost the same specs with the 1390 Card and i just managed it. i don't know if you made it too so i wait till someone give me an answer before i start writing needless instructions.

devihood,

When i update my hacky to 10.4.9 and 8.9.1.. sounds got wierd, "choppy" kinda!!.. then uppdate to a new kernel, boom!!.. its working again, just like before.

I recommend using the Netkas Semthex SSE2 kernel as you wont need dsmos.kext or the now obsolete r3d3.kext in your Extensions folder.
On an SSE3 system, it skips the emulation code for SSE2 CPU's so it's safe to use and you will get the same speeds smile.gif
Just make sure you delete AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext otherwise it will kernel panic.
Grab it off the hackint0sh irc 1049 channel.
flibblesan
I'm using the SSE3 HPET AutoFSN kernel. Are you saying that the Netkas SSE2 kernel is better to run?
Stephan
Both cores are working after a short sleep !!!!

Yeah, I actually Xbenched higher with it surprisingly smile.gif
The difference isn't really noticeable though, so to save any fuss you should really just stick with the Mar 24 netkas release with dsmos.kext until a proper netkas/semthex kernel is released.
