Hi cloudy:

I followed your instructions but when I check my device ID and vender ID (0x24498086) in:

<key>IOPCIMatch</key>
<string>0x10518086 0x10508086 0x10298086 0x10308086&0xfff0ffff 0x12098086 0x12278086 0x12288086 0x12298086 0x24498086 0x24598086 0x245d8086 0x10918086 0x10608086&0xfff0ffff</string>

I saw that it is already included in the list.

What can I do now?

Thanks
cloudy
did you try to empty the cache and perform permission repair?

and also try to change the mask 0xfff0ffff to 0xffffffff.

I did these things and nothing happen, my ethernet card is still recognized but I cant select it in the network preferences.

What is the next step?

Thanks
cloudy
i have no idea what to do for you.
you mean your setting section in the network preferences is greyed out?
are you sure you unlocked it? check it out.

you have still problems, try to boot your pc in single mode and have a system check.
reboot with the option -s
after reboot, write the following.
/sbin/fsck -fy

after done, type reboot.

Thats all i can do for you. tell me if you need my kext file.
catracho
Check this screenshot that I made:

Like you see, my ethernet card is recognized by mac os x but it is disabled so I cant configure the network. I really dont know why because like we saw, it is included in the kext file.

Another idea?
Trackstar
I tried the exact same thing with no result, do you think you could supply me with your kext file?

Hi Everyone

here is the AppleIntel8255x.kext you will need. I have it zipped along with installation instructions.

The AppleIntel8255x.kext now allows me to use my Intel Pro/100 VE NIC which is running the
82557 Chipset.

If it doesn't work for you usual disclaimers apply! Don't Blame me for trying!

I do hope it helps.

THANK YOU caladan1810 It works now!!!

This worked great! One of the first solutions on this forum that worked right out. The ethernet card on my Toshisha Satellite 1905-s277 works without a hitch.

Hi Joshua,

Go to My Computer... Then right click and choose Properties.
Then select Hardware Tab... Device Manager

Collpase the tree and display the Network Adapaters, you should have one listed as Intel ® PRO/100 VE Network Connection
right click on this entry and select properties then go to the 'Details Tab' you should have it listed by Device Instance Id
it will display the following or something similar: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1031&SUBSYS_004E0E11&REV_42\4&139E449D&0&40F0

To get the Intel ® PRO/100 VE Network Adapter, working in Mac OS X. You will need the AppleIntel8255x.kext.
which is posted in this forum at post #10. I have it zipped along with installation instructions.

The AppleIntel8255x.kext allows me to use my Intel Pro/100 VE Network Adapter, which is running the
82557 Chipset.

If it doesn't work for you, usual disclaimers apply! Don't Blame me for trying! Let me know your progress. graduated.gif

OK, I followed all the steps, and still nothing. One thing I noticed though is that my device id (0x27DC8086) has letters in it and it seems that everyone elses is strictly numeric. Could this be my problem

If so, how do I fix it?

ChadysGroove: You might want to consider that your ethernet isnt an Intel 10/100 VE. Because, well... it's not.

Your lan is an ICH7 Lan Controller (When in doubt, google your PCI ID in XXXX YYYY format, or 27dc 8086)

I am not 100% sure how to make this device work. I'll get back to you (if I remember, and if I dont, pm me)

Chadyz: I dont know if you've already tried this solution, but...

It looks like if you look at the posting right before this one, the instructions are quoted.

Otherwise, if you start at the beginning of the thread, they seem to appear in posting #2.

It's odd, I had mine working in version 10.4.3 but I updated to 10.4.8 and now it dosn't see it at all.

I tried doing whats list and keep getting this message..
when I do the following I get this error...

sudo kextload -v /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntel8255x.kext
not a bundle file
can't add kernel (run kextload on this kext with -t for diagnostic output)

What does [manually load kext] mean?

Ca veut dire que tu dois taper:
sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions.*

Id did everything mentionned above.

i'm running 10.4.6 and my ethernet adaptor is red (cable not connected) instead of green.
As this cable runs pretty well under Linux on same board,

My Dev is 27DC an Ven is 8086 so I wrote
<string>0x27DC8086 0x10508086 0x10298086 0x10308086&0xfff0ffff 0x12098086 0x12278086 0x12288086 0x12298086 0x24498086 0x24598086 0x245d8086 0x10918086 0x10608086&0xfff0ffff</string>

but it always says "cable not connected"

I cleared kext cache and did
Open DiskUtility, and performed permission repair.

Have you any idea ?
Firewire connection is working so I can share folders, but I cannot browse the internet.

i am having a similar issue w\ my VAIO V505-GC2 whihc is almost identical in specs. Ethernet status goes from green to yEllow to red and back to green, to, yellow , to red every few seconds. i have only been able to get as far as my router's config page in my web browsers and this takes literally 2 and a half minutes or more to get to the username and password prompt. forget about actually serfing the web -- it is impossible.

PINGS to my router usually have beween 30 and 60% loss, although obviosuly this means that some packets are succcessfully making the round trip. weird!

i know you posted this a few months back, but i'm wondering if u made any prrogress w\ this issue. i'm afraid to say i havn't and its very frustrating.

thanks in advance for taking the time to reply.

I am trying to do this for the Intel PRO/1000GT

So I added 0x107c80856 to the AppleIntel8254XEthernet.kext, Info.plist file,
no such luck still.

Did all repair permissions steps as above and many reboots.

Has anyone here gotten this to work?

I tried the same on my 10.4.9 system with the same result. it is not recognised. I have to go back to my measly Realtek again.

I have also tried all the fixes available here on the forums but to no avail the built in ethernet is still disabled! I am using mac os x 10.4.8 and I have the following configuration:

Mainboard:Intel D946GZIS
Chipset Intel® 946GZ Express Chipset

I have downloaded the file in this very thread and tried nearly everything else as well but nothing works any comment will be highly welcomed!

I'm a newbie but I had the same experience. Upgraded from 10.4.6 to 4.8 with jas updates and Intel® PRO/100 VE worked fine. I wanted to update the kernel, so booted off of a full jas 10.4.8 DVD, everything went well, except I lost the LAN. If anyone comes up with a fix, please post.

PS I am glad this sight is available for playas like myself who are learning!

update: i d/l'ed the ionetworkingfamily.kext.zip file and used the directions inside the archive and go it to work! Now for Conexant audio....

Hi Everyone

here is the AppleIntel8255x.kext you will need. I have it zipped along with installation instructions.

Hi Caladan1810

Thank you. It worked great!
Using an Intel 845GVFN board with JaS 10.4.8

The kext provided by caladan worked perfectly for the 82562EZ controller as well, w/ Dev ID 1050

I'm having a problem i hope someone could shed light on, i have JAS 10.4.9

i can copy the file to /System/Library/Extensions

and then I can do both these steps sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntel8255x.kext [authenticated again]

sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntel8255x.kext

But here where the problem comes in when I do this command

sudo kextload -v /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntel8255x.kext [manually load kext]

I am getting this error

"Can't add kernel extention /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntel8255x.kext ( not a bundle) (run kextloadon this kext with -t for diagonstic output)"

tried recopying the AppleIntel8255x.kext over a few times and still same error.
