Hi, i have been using mac all my life, and was thinking about building a intel mac, just for fun. I already have a imac g5 so i don't really need anything fast, is the "200$ mac still working"?.
(specs):
ASRock P4Dual-915GL Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel Celeron D 340 2.93Ghz / 256K Cache / 533 FSB / Socket 478
noname 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400
I don't know much about pc hardware, becides actually putting the parts together.
Are there better options out there now (i guess the article is pretty old...)

Yes, the cheap machines are still good. I just built one for about 250, but it is upgraded quite a bit from the 199 machine. I did have a 120GB hd laying around though.
I used the following:
Intel BOXD915GLVGL Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 915GL Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - OEM -49.99
CASE FOXCONN|3GTW001-W-HP350 RT - 34.99
Intel Celeron D 336 Prescott 533MHz FSB LGA 775 64-Bit Processor w/ Execute Disable Bit Model BX80547RE2800CN - 70.50
1GB Ram - $55
NEC DL DVD burner - 39.99

Can I ask where you are getting your parts? I search and can not find them, and if I do they are much more than what you have listed.
Thank you!
